Uphold privacy of children in conflict with law: Dimapur cops
Dimapur: Dimapur commissioner of police Kevithuto Sophie on Friday reminded everyone and organisations, including media, civil society, and institutions, of their legal and ethical duty to uphold the privacy of children in conflict with law.
In a release, police commissioner Sophie said Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, strictly prohibits the disclosure of the name, photograph, school, family, address, or any other detail that may reveal the identity of a child involved in criminal or protective legal matters.
The police commissioner said legal consequences entails punishment of imprisonment upto six months, fine upto Rs 2 lakh or both.
"Such violations not only attract legal consequences but also cause deep psychological and social harm to the child and their family," the release said.
The police commissioner urged the media houses, content creators, and citizens to refrain from sharing, reposting, or publishing such details in any form.
"Together, let us strive to protect the rights and dignity of every child," Sophie said.
The police commissioner issued the reminder following a letter to him by the Juvenile Justice Board Dimapur on June 18, stating that apprehension of a child in conflict with law, along with name, had been published in local newspaper(s), which is a clear violation of Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act that prohibits the disclosure of identity of a child in conflict with law.
The Juvenile Justice Board sought the police commissioner's prompt attention and intervention in the matter, considering the legal safeguards provided to children under the juvenile justice framework.

The ACB has registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act. 'We have received a complaint from a clerk, who was recently transferred to ADC office that Shashank, who is personal assistant to Sonepat deputy commissioner had sought ₹ 5 lakh from him in lieu of transfer from ADC office to Rai Tehsil as revenue clerk when he met him to transfer him from ADC office. He had already paid ₹ 1.5 lakh in advance and now demanded ₹ 3.5 lakh to ensure his transfer. Even, the accused claimed that he had talked to the deputy commissioner for the transfer,' the spokesperson added. The ACB has registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

Summons sent to lawyer for his role as co's ind dir: ED
Representative Image NEW DELHI: Faced with criticism, Enforcement Directorate Friday said it issued summons to senior advocate Pratap Venugopal as part of its ongoing investigation against Care Health Insurance Ltd (CHIL) in which Venugopal was an independent director. ED's Mumbai zonal office is conducting a money laundering investigation in which it has been alleged that shares of CHIL were issued at a much lower price in the form of ESOPs on May 1, 2022, in spite of the rejection of the same by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). "As part of the investigation, summons was issued to Pratap Venugopal, an independent director of CHIL, to understand the circumstances under which the company has issued ESOPs despite its rejection by IRDAI and subsequent discussions in the board of CHIL in this regard," the agency said about the summons which it withdrew after protests by lawyers' bodies. In a statement, the agency emphasised that IRDAI on July 23, 2024, had directed CHIL to revoke or cancel any ESOPs that were yet to be allotted and had also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on CHIL for non-compliance with regulatory directions. Further, ED has asked its units not to issue summons to lawyers, saying summoning them would be violative of Section 132 of Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023. "If any summons needs to be issued under the exceptions carved out in proviso to Section 132 of Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, the same shall be issued only with the prior approval of the director, ED," the agency said.
