YSRCP hindering State's progress, flays Anand Surya
Mangalagiri: TDP State vice-president Vemuri Anand Surya on Friday accused YSRCP leaders of hindering the State's progress and engaging in malicious campaigns against the new alliance government.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters here, Anand Surya stated that while former chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy promised 'Amma Vodi' to everyone but failed to deliver, the coalition government, upon assuming power, has successfully implemented 'Thalliki Vandanam' crediting funds to accounts for all eligible children in a household.
'Realising that their political future would be bleak if these schemes continue uninterrupted, Jagan Reddy and his unruly mobs are now roaming under the guise of 'condolence visits,' he said.
Surya didn't mince words when criticising YSRCP leaders regarding Tirumala. 'YSRCP leaders continue to accumulate sin by constantly leveling false accusations against Tirumala,' he asserted. Bhumana Karunakar Reddy must stop his false propaganda, he said.
Surya specifically challenged Karunakar Reddy to explain the alleged misappropriation of gold meant for sacred 'Thalibottu' during his tenure as chairman. 'Karunakar Reddy himself should disclose how much gold was illicitly taken after being melted in Mumbai, under the pretext of 'wastage',' Surya demanded. He also accused YV Subba Reddy of hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees and Hindus by selling the deity's sacred prasadam at a sweet shop. He cited an incident where Rs 2 crore worth of talanilalu (devotee hair offerings) from Tirumala were illegally trafficked through Myanmar and Thailand to China, only to be intercepted by Assam Rifles.
Surya recalled that the YSRCP's 'pink diamond' slander against Chandrababu Naidu was exposed when they withdrew their petition in court after coming to power. He also highlighted how the High Court intervened to stop the YSRCP's attempt to divert Rs 5,000 crore from TTD's fixed deposits.
Surya further alleged that the YSRCP brazenly allocated land to Sarada Peetham, disregarding regulations. Surya concluded by stating that YSRCP leaders were spreading false propaganda out of envy, unable to tolerate the growing reverence for TTD under the alliance government's rule. 'Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy faced his downfall, and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy will meet the same fate,' Surya warned.

‘Land acquisition issues, pending bills': Bengaluru's ‘Stonehenge' Ejipura flyover unlikely to be completed this year

With uncleared bills, land acquisition issues, and just 50 per cent of the construction complete over eight years, the flyover has been creating more troubles instead of easing congestion in the area. Meant to connect Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala to the inner Ring Road at Ejipura Junction, the flyover stretches across 2.5 km. Its construction was approved in 2014 and a tender was awarded in 2017 with a 30-month deadline. The project was supposed to be completed in November 2019 but the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) extended the deadline to December 2020 and imposed a penalty for delay. Despite protests from residents and elected representatives, nothing changed. However, after the Karnataka Congress government came into power, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said in August 2023 that an additional Rs 141 crore was required for the project and assured to solve the problem soon. 'It is really unfortunate that the project has been delayed. I will ensure that it is completed,' he said then. Last month, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that around 50 per cent of the flyover's work was complete and the rest was underway. 'Initially, there was no need for land acquisition, but the BBMP still went ahead and notified 32 properties. Issues related to one property and the St John's (hospital) property are likely to be resolved in the coming days,' he said, adding that pending bills for the completed works will also be cleared soon. 'In view of the monsoon, I have instructed officials to lay an additional layer of asphalt under the flyover to ensure smooth traffic movement. We expect 90–95 per cent of the work to be completed by December,' he said. However, an official associated with the project said they are yet to iron out land acquisition issues. 'A portion of land close to St John's Hospital is yet to be acquired. A meeting has to be held with the stakeholders,' the official told The Indian Express. As of now, 416 segments out of the planned 762 have been cast, and 291 segments have been erected, according to the BBMP. On the ground, commuters and shopkeepers remain frustrated. While construction is going on, its pace is slow. Mohan Kumar, a traffic police constable stationed at the site, says, 'Peak traffic hours are from 8 am to 11.30 am and from 4.30 pm to 9 pm. It is always congested, and when it rains it becomes worse.' Muthu, an employee at TVS which is located near the construction site, said part of the flyover now passes in front of his shop, which is a sign of recent progress but beyond that point, there are 'just bare pillars.' Alim Pasha, manager of the long-standing Sapphire Gift shop in the area, said the situation has affected business, especially for smaller shops. 'Business has been bad, and people barely come. The store is mostly empty. Even if they come, it is mostly during the afternoon when the traffic is moderate. Gangster wanted for couple's murder killed in Firozabad police encounter
In Firozabad, a notorious gangster named Raju Khan, wanted for murder and robbery, was killed in an encounter with the police early Friday. SSP Saurabh Dixit reported that Khan opened fire on officers after being cornered, leading to retaliatory fire. AGRA: A notorious gangster, wanted in murder and robbery cases, was killed in an encounter with the police in the Firozabad district in the early hours of Friday. Police said the encounter happened at a secluded place under the jurisdiction of Shikohabad Police Station, following which the accused, Raju Khan , was taken to the community health centre in Shikohabad, where he was declared dead by the doctors. SSP Firozabad Saurabh Dixit told TOI that police received an alert from an informer that Khan, wanted in murder and robbery cases, was in the area. "Police surrounded the criminal near Nova Factory and asked him to surrender, but he started firing indiscriminately at the cops. In the retaliatory fire, Khan got injured and died during treatment. We have alerted the NHRC about the incident and requested DM Firozabad to launch a probe into it," SSP Dixit said. Sharing details about Khan's criminal record, Dixit further added that he was wanted in as many as five cases of murder, loot, and attempt to murder. "On the intervening night of March 4 and 5, Khan looted and killed Munna Lal Yadav and his wife Mithlesh Yadav (both senior citizens) in Bansi Nagar of Shikohabad. Khan used to target elderly people, and he was currently living in Agra. He would travel from Agra to commit the crimes, police said, adding that he was identified after monitoring footage from 200 CCTV cameras. DIG Agra had announced a reward of Rs 50,000, and the SSP had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for Raju Khan's arrest. After the incident, an illegal .32-bore firearm, eight live bullets, and 12 bullet shells were recovered from his possession, police said. As per Uttar Pradesh Police data, in the last eight years, the state reported 14,741 encounters, leading to the arrest of 30,293 criminals, while 234 criminals were gunned down.

Rs 50 lakh ganja seized in Hyderabad: 4 held including railway employee; NDPS warrants pending
HYDERABAD: The special operations team (SOT) of LB Nagar, in coordination with Hayathnagar police, busted an interstate ganja smuggling racket and arrested four peddlers, including a railway employee from Maharashtra. The arrested were identified as Vikas Baban Salve (30), Ranganath Yurajn Sadve (36), Sagar Gajanan Khandebharad (29) - a central railway employee - and Amol Narayan Borde (26). Officials seized 166 kg of the contraband worth Rs 50 lakh, four mobile phones and Rs 6,200 cash from their possession. Based on a tip-off, officials set up a checkpoint near Dhananjaya function hall in Hayathnagar and intercepted a car. During the search of the vehicle, the officials found 20 sacks of dry ganja weighing 166 kg. Investigators said they procured ganja from one Maik alias Rahul alias Dass and planned to transport it to Maharashtra via Hyderabad. Salve and Sadve have NDPS cases registered against them in Alair and Bhadrachalam police stations. Non-bailable warrants are pending against them.
