Anaheim police kill driver in high-speed pursuit, crash in Orange County
The chase began shortly after 7:45 p.m. when officers responded to a shooting at a motel in the 300 block of North Brookhurst Street, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Matt Sutter. The victim of the motel shooting, a man, was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The suspected shooter drove away and police pursued him, Sutter said.
He led officers on a wild chase — blowing through intersections, striking other vehicles, weaving through traffic and losing a tire, according to video captured by a KTLA News helicopter.
The man raced along the 91 Freeway in a white pickup truck before zooming onto surface streets, where police officers made several unsuccessful attempts to halt the truck, the station reported.
After an almost hourlong chase, the pursuit ended near West Memory Lane and North Bristol Street, Sutter said, about eight miles from the shooting.
Police positioned on a bridge over the Santa Ana River executed a PIT maneuver, strategically hitting the side of the suspect's truck and sending it into a guard rail. It bounced back into the road, striking a bridge divider, and came to rest, according to KTLA.

As smoke poured out of the vehicle, officers rushed to surround it. Police opened fire at 8:38 p.m., and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Sutter said.
A passenger in the car surrendered to police and was escorted away, KTLA reported.
Information on the suspect's and shooting victim's identities was not immediately available.

Two people are dead and at least four others were injured in what authorities are describing as a high-speed multi-vehicle collision in Santa Ana Monday night. Officers with the Santa Ana Police Department responded to reports of the violent crash on Main Street just north of Warner Avenue at around 6:35 p.m., officials confirmed to KTLA. Santa Ana PD Public Information Officer Natalie Garcia told reporters that the department received multiple calls about a vehicle traveling down Warner Avenue at a high rate of speed. 'It's very preliminary at this point. We know that – based on video surveillance that's circulating – a vehicle was travelling at a really high rate of speed northbound on Main when it lost control, went into the southbound lanes of traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road,' Garcia said. Dashcam video posted to Instagram moments before the crash appears to show a driver behind the wheel of a BMW speeding northbound down Warner Avenue in southbound lanes, narrowly missing the Tesla that captured the video. Arriving police and crews with the Orange County Fire Authority found four vehicles involved in the collision, several of whom were trapped inside the wreckage of one vehicle and had to be extricated. All four were rushed to a nearby hospital in unknown conditions. Two other victims, each in separate vehicles, were declared dead at the scene. In footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA, firefighters can be seen attempting to get inside one of the involved cars, which was completely destroyed, with its entire front end smashed beyond recognition. Authorities said the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing and that it's too early to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. YouTuber caught sexual predators on Roblox. Now he's facing ban from the platform.
A popular Roblox content creator alleged the platform has threatened to ban him for his involvement in exposing sexual predators on Roblox through Youtube videos. Schlep, a longtime Roblox and YouTube user, said the online gaming platform sent him a cease and desist notice due to his actions violating the company's polices. The content creator posted the full notice to his X (formerly Twitter) account Saturday. Roblox's letter claimed that the 22-year-old's 'actions are a violation of Roblox policies and directly undermine Roblox's safety efforts and, critically, are exposing our users to increased risk.' 'While Roblox acknowledges that your stated intentions may be to protect children, and while it recognizes the serious nature of online predatory behavior, your methods, including failing to immediately report suspicious activity to Roblox through proper channels, are actively interfering with Roblox's established safety protocols and, critically, are exposing Roblox's users to increased risk,' the statement said. Schlep disputed the claims Sunday in a video posted to YouTube, where he has over 650,000 subscribers. The video is titled 'Roblox Is Threatening to Sue Me For Protecting Kids.' The content creator argued that he and his team have managed to get six predators arrested over the past year for their actions on Roblox. He also said this is the first time a Roblox representative has reached out to him despite his attempts to contact them over safety concerns. Schlep revealed that he was groomed by a popular Roblox developer when he was a child, and that he even attempted suicide. 'He manipulated me, he used power dynamics over me, and frequently exposed me to gore and not safe for work material and loads of other stuff that a kid should never see,' Schlep said in the video. 'It was so bad that I actually made an attempt. While I was in the hospital, my mom contacted Roblox. They brushed her off. That predator went on to groom more victims before Roblox finally banned him years later.' Roblox stated 'cases of vigilante groups or individuals violating our policies to entrap users or otherwise self-police' in a recent news release shared by Schlep. The creator disputed the claim and said law enforcement agencies have made public statements showing gratitude for such work. Child's alleged Roblox kidnapping sparks lawsuit as California laws to protect kids online are stalled
At least two California laws designed to protect kids online are not working. In fact, they're not even being used. CBS News California examined why and how a recent alleged kidnapping involving popular gaming platform Roblox might have been avoided if the laws were working the way they were supposed to. This story begins and ends at the California State Capitol, but it impacts kids nationwide. A 10-year-old Southern California girl was allegedly kidnapped by a man she met on Roblox, particularly popular among preteens. Police found her hundreds of miles away at a strip mall near the man's home in the city of Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento. This week, the girl's family filed a lawsuit in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Roblox is located. The lawsuit also names Discord, a third-party messaging app, where the man is accused of communicating with the girl. This is at least the sixth civil lawsuit filed against Roblox just this year on behalf of children who were allegedly groomed or exploited by adults on the gaming platform. Attorneys general from other states, including Florida, are actively investigating Roblox. So we asked the California Department of Justice whether state Attorney General Rob Bonta is investigating. After all, lawmakers inside this building recently passed two California laws specifically intended to protect kids from predators: the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act and the Protecting Our Kids from Social Media Addiction Act. These laws, among other things, require platforms that cater to kids to automatically set privacy settings to the highest levels. It turns out Bonta isn't enforcing the laws because he can't. That is because NetChoice, the online trade association, is suing Bonta, arguing the California laws violate the First Amendment and other constitutional rights. So far, the courts have agreed, granting an injunction, meaning Bonta can't enforce the laws. Bonta's office said it "has not filed any lawsuits against Roblox" and is "unable to comment on, even to confirm or deny, any potential or ongoing investigations." A spokesperson for Roblox said in a statement: "We dedicate substantial resources… to help detect and prevent inappropriate content and behavior, including attempts to direct users off platform, where safety standards and moderation may be less stringent than ours." For now, it's up to parents to take the time and do the research to figure out how to activate all the age-appropriate protections. despite the intent of California legislators who pass laws that may never be enforceable.
