Revealed: The top 10 most miserable names in the UK... so is YOURS on the list?
But the surest route to happiness? Being called Dave.
A poll found that those with the name are seen as being the most cheerful.
But at the other end of the scale, Victors and Susans are perceived to be the most miserable.
The survey of 2,000 Britons found that Katie followed Dave as the happiest name in the UK.
For the study, participants were given a long list of names and asked to tick all those they believed were the most upbeat, or, conversely, the grumpiest.
From this, a percentage was calculated to give an overall ranking. The research found that, overall, 23 per cent claim the happiest people they've ever met are called Dave.
That could include former Prime Minister David Cameron or ex-football legend David Beckham – but one of the few celebrities to use the abbreviated form is Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who, appropriately, has always been seen as the 'Nicest Man in Rock'.
Meanwhile, the happiest female name was deemed to be Katie – in unusually good news for British ex-model Katie Price.
So too for gardener Charlie Dimmock, Emily Blunt and historian Lucy Worsley, who are also thought to have merry monikers. Poppy, Ben, Jack, Tom and Muhammad make up the cheerful top ten.
Conversely, Victor was ranked the most miserable name, a view that may have been influenced by TV's grumpiest sitcom character Victor Meldrew, played by Richard Wilson in 90s BBC hit One Foot in the Grave.
Susan was voted joint second in the gloomy list, along with Nigel and Karen.
The Happiness Index of names was commissioned by British 'Shop & Win' platform Winnrz.
It also revealed that despite their grumpy stereotype, Northerners are the happiest in the UK with 44 per cent of those polled insisting people from up north are generally a cheery bunch.
This compares to just 17 per cent who said Southerners had the most to smile about.
Unsurprisingly the nation's 'happy' place is lazing on a beach while on holiday, followed by sitting in their garden on a beautiful sunny day and snuggled on the sofa with a Friday night takeaway.
Other things that make Brits happy were winning prizes, going for long walks in the countryside and meeting up with friends at the local pub.
Overall romantic Brits cited their partner as the person who brings them the most joy, followed by their children and the nation's mums.
Sadly, for the nation's fathers only four percent said their dad brought them the most joy.
Nearly nine in ten agreed that an unexpected cash injection would make them happier, with a modest £5,000 emerging as the amount most Brits said would put a smile on their face.
A separate study recently revealed that baby names associated with intelligence are dying out.
Happiest:
1. Dave - 23 percent
2. Katie - 17 percent
3. Charlie - 16 percent
4. Emily - 16 percent
5. Lucy - 14 percent
6. Poppy - 14 percent
7. Ben - 13 percent
8. Jack - 12 percent
9. Tom - 11 percent
10. Muhammed - 9 percent
Most miserable:
1. Victor - 17 percent
2. Susan - 15 percent
3. Nigel - 15 percent
4. Karen - 15 percent
5. Mark - 10 percent
6. Jeremy - 10 percent
7. Clive - 9 percent
8. Hassan - 9 percent
9. Geoff - 9 percent
10. Brian - 8 percent
Methodology: 2,000 participants were given a long list of names to choose from and were asked to tick all those that they believed were the happiest/ most miserable. From this, a percentage was worked out based on how many people had ticked that particular name, and they were then ranked in order.

Welcome to Wilderness! Paddleboard yoga, hot tubs and a long table banquet... it can only be the most achingly middle-class festival of 2025
Don't worry about wellies and toilet queues … but you might want to brush up on your yoga at Britain's most middle class festival. Lucky attendees at this year's Wilderness Festival only needed their best table manners and swimsuits for the four-day event at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire. Staged near Charlbury, this year's eclectic schedule boasted 'feasting seats and picnics', art classes, a lakeside spa, sauna, wellbeing classes, alongside both paddleboarding and aerial yoga. Meanwhile, a sumptuous so-called 'long- table banquet' was hosted by Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, 85, featuring a menu including whipped goat's cheese with roasted pickled tomatoes, as well as hot honey and toasted seed and apricot tart tatin with honey and thyme ice cream. While organisers encouraged guests to 'find their wild', the middle-class mood appeared to be rather more tame and sedate – with television presenter Denise Van Outen, 51, and model Daisy Lowe, 36, among this year's attendees. The event, where adult camping tickets reportedly went for around £290, was presented by luxury car brand Audi, and promised a 'weekend of boundless escapism, daring adventures, and pure joy'.

John Torode and Lisa Faulkner's sprawling London home as sacked MasterChef star hosts friends for low-key 60th birthday dinner
John Torode is said to have hosted a few friends for an intimate dinner party at home last week as he continues to keep a low-profile in the wake of his MasterChef axe. The chef recently lost his job on the BBC show after two decades over allegations he used the N-word, which he claims to have 'absolutely no recollection' of. While he has been laying low amid the scandal, he and wife Lisa Faulkner were reportedly joined by friends to celebrate the star's 60th birthday on July 23. Over the years, the couple have given fans a glimpse inside the stunning London home they share, particularly their fully kitted-out kitchen. Recently, Lisa offered another glance of their abode as she shared a snap of herself and her pooch in her tranquil garden, while thanking her fans for supporting her of late. She penned: 'Our little shadow over the past few weeks. I can't tell you how much Rory has kept me smiling.' MasterChef star John, 60, recently lost his job on the BBC show and Lisa shared a snap of herself in their garden with Rory as she shared how she had been coping during the time Lisa continued: 'Every day she wakes up wagging her tail, smiling and greeting a new day with her positivity ! My motto really is Be More Rory.' John and Lisa live in their sprawling London home with their beloved dog Rory, where they enjoy a relaxed life, often giving fans a look inside the property. The kitchen is quite the hub of their home given John works as a chef while Lisa herself is a passionate cook, having won Celebrity MasterChef in 2010 - which was where she first met John. Their impressive kitchen, where they often film cooking content together, features stylish blue built-in cabinets complete with marble surfaces. They have a modern double oven and hob which features a white tiled backsplash and a metal cooker hob, where they display an array of ornaments. There is also a large wooden breakfast bar in the centre of the room, providing ample space for John to showcase his cooking talents. They also have a sign reading 'love' hung up in the space, no doubt referring to the couple's love for cooking up a storm in the space. Their love of cooking also expands into their 'garden room', where they have a huge larder packed full of ingredients and another bench, both from Chiltern Oak Furniture. Known for their love of cooking, they have a garden room which features a larger and a cooking bench, giving them another space to whip up a storm as well as their modern kitchen The room also features a homely touch as it boasts a grey sofa bed from Willow and Hall, which sits in front of vibrant pink floral wallpaper. The room is complete with a full-length mirror from William Wood, with Lisa giving fans a tour of the room in a video shared in 2023 to give others 'outdoor inspiration'. '@johntorodecooks and I might move in, hope that helps for any outdoor room inspiration!!' she quipped in a caption at the time. The rest of their property in equally as homely and their master bedroom has forest green wallpaper and contrasting pink curtains. The rest of the room features complementing colours as their bedding also boasts the same tones while they also have a vibrant pink rug covering the wooden floor. It is complete with a statement fireplace as well as a romantic sign reading: 'As soon as I saw you I knew a grand adventure was about to happen.' The couple had the bedroom painted back in 2023, with Lisa proudly showing off the results of the refurbishment on her Instagram page at the time. They also have their own tranquil garden, perfect for soaking up the rays during the balmy London summers. Lisa has previously described the space as her and John's 'sanctuary' and the couple often share snaps of them both relaxing in the area. Their garden features a well-kept lawn as well as a patio area, which features an L-shaped sofa and a small table perfect for summer entertaining. The raised patio also sits next to their covered garden room, giving them an indoor alternative if the weather takes a turn for the worse. Lisa often shares adorable snaps of herself and her beloved dog Rory lounging in the sunshine in the garden, proving he is as big a fan of the space as she and John are. The couple live in the stunning property with Lisa's daughter, while John also has four adult children from two previous relationships.

Christine McGuinness makes thinly veiled dig at ex husband Paddy and admits she 'wants to have a deeper connection with women'
Christine McGuinness has made a thinly-veiled dig at her ex husband Paddy as she opened up about her sexuality. The 37-year-old model is in the current line-up for the new series of E4's Celebs Go Dating after splitting the Top Gear star in 2022. Christine, who shares three kids with Paddy, 51, described her new way of dating as her being a 'free spirit' and she is ' enjoying' spending time with women. 'Now I'm enjoying spending time with women,' she told The Sun. 'I can just have a deeper connection with a woman. 'I like someone who knows what they want and isn't playing games.' Christine says she refuses to put a label on her sexuality, but Paddy knew about it when they were together. She continued: 'My ex-husband knew about it from when we first met and was fine with it.' The telly star admitted that for the past three years, she has been involved with women only, including the likes of DJ Roxxxan and Chelcee Grimes. It comes after Christine gave an update on her relationship with former husband Paddy after they split. Discussing the reality of co-parenting with Paddy, Christine told Amy Hart's podcast: 'I've been separated from my ex husband for three years. We get on really well. 'We still live at home together, but of course, I want some adult company. I can't just sit and be with children all day, every day. 'I like that time out - being away from home when I'm working - but I haven't got that time out being away from home not working and just enjoying some adult company. 'I haven't had that, so I got the opportunity and thought, You know what? Why not? I understand myself, so I'll be fine. 'I'll manage it and it was just a step too far.' 'I found it quite overwhelming, so I listened to myself and I'm really, really proud that I recognised how I felt... 'I went home to my children after two weeks. I was supposed to do 10 weeks of filming - and I'd done two weeks - and I'm really, really proud of myself that I did what was right for me.' She added: 'If something doesn't feel right for you, physically, mentally, emotionally, it's okay to leave. 'That's something I tell my children quite a lot, because being autistic, you can stay and do what other people want you to do. 'I think it's really, really important to know that you can leave the party, you can leave the job, leave the event, you can leave the relationship at any time.'
