Alabama baseball Top 25 rankings: Where Crimson Tide sit after 40-win regular season
The Alabama Crimson Tide closed out the regular season in Gainesville with a fairly significant accomplishment.
Despite losing two of three to the streaking Florida Gators, the Crimson Tide (40-15 overall, 16-14 SEC) won their 40th game of the season. It marks only the third time Alabama baseball has reached the 40-win margin in a season since 2010. The Tide won 43 games in 2023 and reached the Winston-Salem Super Regional, their first trip to a super regional since 2010.
Alabama will head to the SEC Tournament in Hoover as the No. 9 seed and will face the No. 16 Missouri Tigers beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT Tuesday. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
Here's a roundup of where Alabama sits in Monday's new college baseball Top 25 rankings and polls.
USA TODAY Sports Baseball Coaches Poll ranking for Alabama
The Crimson Tide dropped to No. 21 in this week's USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Alabama is ranked one spot below No. 20 Ole Miss (37-17) and one spot ahead of No. 22 Northeastern (44-9).
Last week's Coaches Poll ranking: No. 16.
Coaches Poll No. 1 ranked team: LSU Tigers (41-13)
Baseball America Top 25 ranking for Alabama
Over at Baseball America, the Crimson Tide fell to No. 18. Curiously, Alabama ranks one spot below No. 17 Southern Miss (40-13) -- who the Crimson Tide beat in the regular season just over a month ago -- and one spot ahead of ACC regular season champion Georgia Tech (38-16) in these rankings.
Baseball America's Peter Flaherty and Jacob Rudner said of Alabama:
"Alabama couldn't carry over the momentum from its series win over then-No. 1 Georgia, dropping two of three at Florida to close the regular season. Still, it capped an undeniably strong campaign—topping 40 wins and finishing 16-14 in SEC play while navigating the nation's No. 16 strength of schedule. Offensively, Justin Lebron and Kade Snell paced a consistent lineup, while Riley Quick, Braylon Myers and Carson Ozmer led the charge on the mound. The Crimson Tide sit on the hosting bubble and will need a strong showing in Hoover to secure a top-16 seed."
Last week's Baseball America ranking: No. 16
Baseball America's No. 1 ranked team: LSU

$1.3 Million Quarterback Makes Major NIL Move Before Freshman Season at Alabama

There's still plenty of good in the world of college football. With NIL opportunities changing the game, stories like this one are worth celebrating. Keelon Russell, the No. 2 ranked quarterback in the class of 2025 and the 2024 Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year, made headlines this week for a heartfelt gesture toward his mother. Advertisement It's a great reminder that beyond the field, these young athletes are using their platforms to support their families, give back and lead by example. The NIL-focused outlet On3 shared a photo of Russell's generous surprise: "NEW: Alabama QB Keelon Russell gifted his mom a new Mercedes Benz with NIL dollars." Russell's current NIL valuation stands at $1.3 million. His first partnership was with Panini America. He ranks 37th among all college football players in NIL valuation, and 2nd among freshmen behind Michigan's Bryce Underwood. Across all college athletes, he's currently 78th according to On3's rankings. Advertisement Russell will enter fall camp with a shot at winning the starting quarterback job under new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. He'll be competing with experienced returner Ty Simpson and promising youngster Austin Mack. Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell (12).Gary Cosby/USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Back in February, Russell spoke with On3 Sports about his focus on staying grounded amid rising expectations and NIL attention: "The best advice was to understand what's coming towards you,' Russell said. 'Understand that your profile is your profile. Understand that your name is your name. Building that is the most successful thing that you can do, especially with how the NIL space is getting bigger. The performances of the platforms are getting way more advanced. NIL is something that takes away from the aspects of football. Somebody told me, focus on the key things." Advertisement Russell originally committed to SMU, but after a standout senior season at Duncanville High School in Texas, he flipped his commitment to Alabama. One of the key reasons? The development of Michael Penix Jr. under DeBoer at Washington, a path Russell hopes to follow. This story of Russell's gift to his mother stands out as an awesome example of how NIL is already helping student-athletes make life-changing decisions for themselves and their families. Texas softball tops Texas Tech 2-1 in bizarre Game 1 of NCAA Championship Series

The Women's College World Series Championship Series certainly didn't lack drama in Game 1 of the best of three series. In the end, the Texas Longhorns outlasted Texas Tech 2-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The game was a pretty standard pitchers duel through four innings. But in the top of the fifth inning, things got weird. Tech's Logan Helleman, on first base after a UT infield error, attempted to steal second, but was thrown out by Texas catcher Reese Atwood. The call was overturned on video review because of obstruction on Texas infielder Leighann Goode. It was ruled Goode's toe was an inch too far into the basepath, even though her foot wasn't close to the runner. Advertisement Tech capitalized as Mihyia Davis' bloop a single into shallow right field scored Halleman from second. The Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead and the way Tech starting pitcher NiJaree Canady was dominating, it looked like a dark night for the burnt orange. But the weirdness wasn't over. In the bottom of the sixth. Canady had struck out the first two batters in the inning when Kayden Henry slashed a hit to left. She then stole second. Mia Scott reached on an infield hit and also stole second. Texas had runners at second and third with Atwood coming up. Atwood is one of the most feared hitters in college softball, but she is hitless in the postseason. Tech coach Gerry Glasco called for an intentional walk. Canady hasn't thrown an intentional walk all season. Atwood watched the first three pithes go high, but the fourth pitch was low enough to be hittable. Atwood lined the 3-0 pitch into center field plating Henry and Scott to give Texas a 2-1 lead. That was all Teagan Kavan needed in the Top of the 7th. Kavan allowed a base runner, but still got three outs and the complete game win. Advertisement Texas now leads the series 1-0. Game 2 is set for tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT.
