Tyrese Haliburton breaks silence on Achilles tear as girlfriend shares heartbreaking behind-the-scenes pics
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has released an emotional statement after tearing his Achilles in his team's Game 7 loss to Oklahoma City Thunder.
After a what replays showed was a pop in his lower right leg in the first quarter, Halliburton was left in tears and screaming in agony after hitting the court. He had played through the pain barrier with a calf issue in the same leg which may have contributed to a new issue that will now sidelines him for the start of next season.
Without their star man, his Pacers team went on to lose the decider 91-103 in a cruel ending for a player who had lit up the postseason.
After having surgery to repair his tea r, the 25-year-old Haliburton shared an emotinal statement from his hospital bed on Monday night, barely 24 hours on from sustaining the injury.
'Man. Don't know how to explain it other than shock. Words cannot express the pain of this letdown,' Haliburton wrote. 'The frustration is unfathomable. I've worked my whole life to get to this moment and this is how it ends? Makes no sense.
'Now that I've gotten surgery, I wish I could count the number of times people will tell me I'm going to 'come back stronger'. What a cliche lol, this s*** sucks. My foot feels like dead weight fam.
'But what's hurting most I think is my mind. Feel like I'm rambling, but I know this is something I'll look back on when I'm through this, as something I'm proud I fought through. It feels good to let this s*** out without y'all seeing the kid ugly cry.
'At 25, I've already learned that God never gives us more than we can handle. I know I'll come out on the other side of this a better man and a better player. And honestly, right now, torn Achilles and all, I don't regret it. I'd do it again, and again after that, to fight for this city and my brothers. For the chance to do something special.
'Indy, I'm sorry. If any fan base doesn't deserve this, it's y'all. But together we are going to fight like hell to get back to this very spot, and get over this hurdle. I don't doubt for a second that y'all have my back, and I hope you guys know that I have yours.
'I think Kobe said it best when in this same situation. 'There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.' And that's exactly right.
'I will do everything in my power to get back right. My journey to get to where I am today wasn't by happenstance, I've pushed myself every day to be great. And I will continue to do just that.
'The most important part of this all, is that I'm grateful. I'm grateful for every single experience that's led me here. I'm grateful for all the love from the hoop world. I don't 'have to' go through this, I get to go through this.
'I'm grateful for the road that lies ahead. Watch how I come back from this. So, give me some time, I'll dust myself off and get right back to being the best version of Tyrese Haliburton.'
Haliburton's girlfriend, Jade Jones, also paid tribute to him on Monday. She posted a message on her Instagram as well as sharing a picture of Haliburton looking inconsolable in the locker room after getting hurt.
'What a year!!! What a bittersweet ending to it all. This team is SO special, beyond words,' she wrote. 'You have made a historic run for the Pacers that generations will be talking about!!! This season has made such a special imprint on my heart. One of the best things we have ever been a part of!!! Just know how much it meant to all of us.'
Jones continued: 'The smile you have put on people's faces, the joy & excitement you have brought to this city. You have been nothing short of amazing. You are so selfless, brave, and strong!
'We have the best support system around us who will pull you through this! I will always be your biggest cheerleader. I will forever be so proud of you!! Our team's got you. We will be back, we're not finished yet! Gods plan, Gods timing. My superstar, I love you.'

Chelsea to hold Jamie Gittens talks with Dortmund in US with transfer expected to go through despite rejected £42m bid
CHELSEA are set to hold further talks with Dortmund over Jamie Gittens, according to reports. The two sides are currently both in the USA playing in the Club World Cup. 3 Gittens, 20, was the subject of a £42million bid from the Blues earlier this month. Dortmund rejected the offer for the former Manchester City youth star. But according to The Telegraph, Chelsea are ready to come back in, with Dortmund valuing Gittens around £55m. The two clubs are set for a face-to-face meeting during the tournament in the USA. Gittens has a seven-year contract on the table from the Blues. And Dortmund "expect Gittens to move to Chelsea", with the only current stumbling block the 20-year-old's fee. Gittens - who spent time at Chelsea's academy - had spells with Reading and City's youth sides before moving to Germany and progressing into Dortmund's first-team. He enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, netting 8 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches. But Dortmund are happy to move on from Gittens, who does not fit naturally into new boss Niko Kovac's preferred system. Bayern Munich are also said to be interested, with reports they c ould look to hijack any deal after losing out on Florian Wirtz to Liverpool. Ten-man Chelsea blow lead in horror second-half collapse to lose 3-1 to Flamengo Chelsea are eager to improve their wing options, with Christopher Nkunku looking set to leave Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca's side have been linked with a move for Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine appears set on leaving Old Trafford, angering fans by posing in an Aston Villa shirt during his recent holiday. Chelsea face Tunisian side Esperance Tunis in Philadelphia tonight as they continue in the Club World Cup group stage. They lost 3-1 to Flamengo last time out following a routine 2-0 win over LAFC in Group D. 3 Boss Maresca admitted it had been "impossible" to train in Philly over the weekend as temperatures soared towards 40C. He said: "It is almost impossible to train or to make a session because of the weather. "I always try to avoid excuses. I always try to be honest. It's not about excuses, it's about reality. "It's an excuse when it's not hot and we say that it's hot. That is an excuse. But if hot, it's hot. "It's difficult to work with these temperatures but we are here and we are trying to do our best and we will try to win tomorrow."

Report: Celtics deal Jrue Holiday to Blazers for Anfernee Simons, picks
June 24 - The Portland Trail Blazers are reacquiring two-time All-Star guard Jrue Holiday from the Celtics, sending guard Anfernee Simons and two future second-round draft picks to Boston in return, ESPN reported on Monday night. Holiday, 35, who will earn $32.4 million next season, is owed a total of approximately $72 million in 2026-27 and 2027-28, after which his four-year, $134.4 million contract that he signed with the Celtics in April 2024 expires. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Simons joins the Celtics on an expiring contract. Per ESPN, the deal saves Boston $40 million in luxury tax payments next season. In 2023, Portland landed Holiday in a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks for Damian Lillard, then sent the 16-year veteran to Boston and acquired a pair of first-round picks. Holiday never played a game for the Blazers. Per the report, the Celtics are actively involved in trade talks involving multiple players on their roster following Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear in the second round of the playoffs. In his first season with the Celtics, Holiday played an instrumental role in the team's run to the NBA title, shooting a career-high 42.9 percent from 3-point range in 2023-24 and earning All-Defensive team honors. Holiday was a first-round pick (No. 17 overall) of the Philadelphia 76ers in 2009. He has career averages of 15.8 points, 6.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals with the 76ers (2009-13), New Orleans Pelicans (2013-20), Bucks (2020-23) and Celtics in 1,037 games (956 starts). He won his first NBA title with Milwaukee in 2021 and is a six-time All-Defensive selection. Simons, 26, was also a first-round selection, picked at No. 24 by the Blazers in 2018. In seven seasons with Portland he posted 15.0 points, 3.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds over 389 games (213 starts). He should fit in with the Celtics' offensive approach, as he has averaged nearly nine 3-point attempts per game the last three seasons and is a career 38.1 percent shooter from distance. --Field Level Media

Pacers confirm torn Achilles for star Tyrese Haliburton
June 24 - The Indiana Pacers confirmed Monday that star Tyrese Haliburton sustained a torn right Achilles tendon in Sunday night's NBA Finals Game 7 loss at Oklahoma City. The All-NBA guard was helped off the court and immediately taken to the locker room in obvious pain during the first quarter. "An MRI taken on Monday confirmed that Haliburton tore his right Achilles tendon," the Pacers said in a statement Monday evening. "Surgery is scheduled later today with Dr. Martin O'Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York." The statement added that additional updates on his status will be "provided as appropriate." The typical recovery time for a basketball player with a torn Achilles tendon ranges from eight to 10 months. Haliburton, 25, had been playing through a strained right calf, an injury he is believed to have suffered in Indiana's Game 5 loss at Oklahoma City. With the game tied 16-16 and 5:03 on the clock, Haliburton accepted a pass outside the 3-point arc and pushed off the ball of his right foot to initiate a drive to the basket. Instead of maneuvering past Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, he fell to the floor in anguish while losing possession of the ball. While the Thunder went the other way for a dunk, Haliburton pounded the floor with his hand several times and was unable to put weight on the leg while being escorted to the locker room. Without Haliburton, the Pacers were outscored 56-43 in the second half as Oklahoma City won the championship with a 103-91 victory. The two-time All-Star scored nine points with three 3-pointers before leaving the floor. He averaged 14.0 points, 5.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds during the NBA Finals. Fellow All-Stars Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks and Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics are currently recovering from the same injury. They, too, suffered their injuries during the 2025 NBA playoffs. Haliburton averaged 18.6 points, 9.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 73 games (all starts) during the regular season. He has career averages of 17.5 points, 8.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 333 games (294 starts) for the Sacramento Kings (2020-22) and Pacers. --Field Level Media
