Star centre Lafai confirms Salford departure
Tim Lafai has become the latest player to announce that he is leaving troubled Salford Red Devils.
The Samoa centre is heading back to Australia to be with his family after spending three seasons with Salford.
Lafai, 33, scored 21 tries in 63 Super League games for the Red Devils and helped the club reach the play-offs in two of his three campaigns.
His departure follows that of half-back Marc Sneyd to Warrington Wolves and prop Brad Singleton's switch to Castleford Tigers.
Salford are 11th in the Super League after a very difficult start to the season.

Salford Red Devils again under sustainability cap
They have been under sustainability cap restrictions amid continued financial uncertainty following a proposed takeover, with head coach Paul Rowley unable to select his strongest team.
Delays in funds being transferred by the investment group headed by Swiss banker Dario Berta also led to February's wages for players and staff being held up.
Now Lafai has been granted an early release from his contract.
He played for his country in the World Cup final in 2022, and also made it into the Super League Dream Team that year after starring in an exciting Salford side.
They finished sixth that year, seventh in 2023 and fourth last season with Lafai a big weapon in their side and he leaves with good memories of his stint in England.
"The boys I've played alongside present and past, it's been a rollercoaster of a ride, but one of the best times I've had here," Lafai told the club website.
"One of the best playing groups and the staff who always made me feel welcome, put up with my nonsense – it's been a great time."

Manchester United Are Set To Rival Arsenal For This Real Madrid Playmaker: Should Amorim Snap Him Up?
Manchester United Are Set To Rival Arsenal For This Real Madrid Playmaker: Should Amorim Snap Him Up? In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Manchester United are set to rival Arsenal for Real Madrid playmaker Brahim Diaz this summer. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are showing interest in bringing the Moroccan attacker to Old Trafford. Diaz's Decent Season In Spanish Football Diaz played an important role in Los Blancos' squad in the previous campaign as he put in a handful of impressive displays in La Liga. The 25-year-old found the back of the net six times and secured seven assists in 52 matches for Real Madrid last season across all competitions. Advertisement The Moroccan talent proved his worth in the opponent's half and did well to attempt 1.82 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga football. He kept 53.6% of his attempts on target. Diaz was even accurate when distributing possession after completing 86.8% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Red Devils to sign him on the cheap this off-season. GETAFE, SPAIN – APRIL 23: Brahim Diaz of Real Madrid run with the ball during the LaLiga match between Getafe CF and Real Madrid CF at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on April 23, 2025 in Getafe, Spain. (Photo by) Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Snap Diaz Up? Diaz is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it in the final third. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates to score and can strike the ball with venom from long range. Advertisement The Malaga-born sensation mainly operates as a right-winger but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player or play as an attacking midfielder if told to do so. Diaz would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Man United boss Ruben Amorim's frontline. He is good enough to earn a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford next season. He is already familiar with the Premier League following his spell at Manchester City and won't take much time to adjust to life in England. At 25, Diaz has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Red Devils to consider in this summer transfer window. All in all, Amorim should go all out to snap the Real Madrid wide player up ahead of the new campaign.
