Grady Memorial Hospital launches new medical helicopter
One of the busiest trauma centers in the country, Grady Memorial Hospital, has launched a new, state-of-the-art medical helicopter.
The hospital says Grady Air is one of the state's largest medical aircraft and can provide intensive care unit-level care to patients.
The helicopter is equipped with advanced life-support equipment and can carry multiple caregivers at once.

Grady Air will provide emergency medical services around the clock to metro Atlanta and will be staffed entirely by Grady medical personnel, while pilots from Air Methods will pilot the helicopter.
'Time is of the essence when it comes to trauma care,' said Dr. Ryan Fransman, medical director of Grady Air at Grady Health System. 'Every minute we save in transporting a critically injured patient to our trauma center increases their chance of survival. As Atlanta's only Level I trauma center, this new helicopter gives us the reach, speed, and medical capacity to make a real difference when every second counts."

Atlanta Beltline approves pilot program for autonomous shuttles
If you live or work on Atlanta's westside, you may soon see more driverless vehicles. On Thursday, the Atlanta Region Transit-Link Authority unanimously approved a pilot program for autonomous shuttles to connect to the Atlanta Beltline. 'When we set out to build the Beltline, one of our goals was to create a more connected Atlanta. The autonomous shuttles will connect MARTA's West End station to the Beltline. The route will include the Atlanta University Center and the Lee and White Entertainment District, which is next to the Westside Trail. The pilot program was approved for a year. Walmart bringing drone delivery service to Atlanta
Next time you order something from Walmart, you may be able receive it through the air in just minutes, the retailer says. Walmart is expanding its drone delivery service to Atlanta through Wing, the big box retailer announced Thursday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Walmart is expanding this service to 100 stores, including stores in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando and Tampa. Customers in Atlanta can sign up on Wing's website to be notified when drone delivery becomes available in their area by visiting The service is currently available in northwest Arkansas and Dallas-Fort Worth. Wing operates within FAA guidelines, flying their drones Beyond Visual Line of Sight up to a six-mile aircraft range from the store. 'People all around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex have made drone delivery part of their normal shopping habits over the past year,' said Adam Woodworth, CEO of Wing. 'Now we're excited to share this ultra-fast delivery experience with millions more people across many more U.S. cities.' Wright-Patterson Air Force Base releases new details about forever chemical contamination, clean-up
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base held a tour Thursday to address a chemical spill that threatened water quality on base and, according to the City of Dayton, their customers for the last decade. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] As reported on News Center 7 at 6, base environmental officials provided new details on the PFAs, also known as forever chemicals, found on base. PFAs, or forever chemicals, were often used in firefighting foam decades ago, before we knew about the dangers. Base environmental workers have created huge containment and treatment centers. Base environmental leaders say the PFAs chemicals that were released were both firefighting foam and concentrated liquid used to make the foam. 'So the fire suppression system over-pressurized for one of the releases and a relief valve failed,' Plamondon said. Plamondon says environmental crews worked to clean it up back in 2015, but some of the PFAs still seeped into the ground, groundwater and surface water. Base officials moved to implement highly technical clean-up sites where water is collected, aerated, then goes through sand filtration and then absorbent treatment. 'If one fails or needs maintenance it can be taken out of service and not stop treating water,' Terry Bauer, a construction engineer, said. Bauer is a construction quality control manager who works with two systems like this. 'This is one of the first of its kind in the country, here and at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina,' Bauer said. 'So, we're cutting edge at the moment.' Base leaders showed News Center 7 another clean-up site on Area A at a former firefighter training facility, where more PFAs were used and leaked. The biggest concern is safe drinking water on base and in the nearby areas. The base took two wells off-line until they built a major water treatment center in 2018. 'It gets down to non-detectable, and the laboratory's detection limits are around two parts per trillion,' Raymond Baker with American Water said. The EPA's recommended guidelines for PFAs is four parts per trillion, according to base leaders. So the treatment plant is working to remove the forever chemicals.
