Venezuelan tackled by federal agents in dramatic courthouse arrest in February
Arnuel Marquez Colmenarez is in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in Texas, ICE records show.
Marquez Colmenarez had arrived at a courthouse in Nashua, New Hampshire on February 20 to be arraigned on misdemeanor charges, the Boston Globe reported. Marquez Colmenarez was then approached by two men who identified themselves as federal agents, who then tackled him as he tried to flee, according to the Globe.
New Hampshire Public Radio reported that Marquez Colmenarez faced charges stemming from an arrest for driving under the influence. Reuters could not immediately confirm the charges he faced. The police departments in Nashua and neighboring Hudson, New Hampshire did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Surveillance video provided by the New Hampshire Judicial Branch to Reuters showed a man wearing a sweatshirt bearing the letters "ATF" tap Marquez Colmenarez on the shoulder as he prepared to exit an elevator. ATF stands for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Marquez Colmenarez then turned to face the man, before turning around again to leave the elevator, the footage showed.
The man in the ATF sweatshirt and another agent then attempted to grab Marquez Colmenarez, and chased him into a lobby, the footage showed. An older man walking with a cane fell to the ground as the two agents tackled Marquez Colmenarez while arresting him, the video showed.
The surveillance video did not have sound.
Neither ICE nor ATF immediately responded to a request for comment. Marquez Colmenarez could not be reached for comment.
President Donald Trump has enlisted thousands of federal law enforcement officials from multiple agencies to take on new work as immigration enforcers.

6-year-old girl detained by ICE along with mom, brother in NYC
Three family members, including a 6-year-old girl, were detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after what was supposed to be a routine immigration hearing in Lower Manhattan. Efforts are underway to try to get the family out of ICE custody. Mariposa Benitez, a founder of the grassroots organization Mi Tlalli, says on Tuesday, ICE agents detained a woman named Martha, her daughter Dayra and her 19-year-old son Manuel at 26 Federal Plaza. "They came together as a family escaping the violence that they have experienced in Ecuador," Benitez said. Manuel just graduated from high school in June, and Dayra is believed to be the young student detained by ICE in New York City. She is at least the fourth city public school student to be detained by ICE this year. Benitez says Martha and Dayra are now at an ICE detention center in Dilley, Texas, and Manuel was transferred to the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. "I'm a licensed clinical social worker, and the impact of family separation on their mental health is something that they will not be able to recover from in many years to come," Benitez said. The Department of Homeland Security released a statement saying, in part, that Martha and her children entered the U.S. illegally in December 2022. "They have all received final orders of removal from an immigration judge," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. Another of Martha's sons, who lives in Queens and did not want to share his name, said he felt destroyed when he found out his mom, his sister and his brother were detained. In Spanish, he told CBS News New York his mom admitted she was afraid of going to court, and he feels helpless. He said his mother's hugs brought him joy and peace, and his sister inherited that warmth and reassurance. Martha's boyfriend said he spoke with her recently, and she told him she's afraid of being deported and of the gangs and danger back in Ecuador. Martha's son said he feels helpless and the most painful part is not knowing when he'll be reunited with the rest of his family again. Martha's loved ones are calling for the family's reunion and release.

Man pleads guilty to armed robberies at Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside county pharmacies
A Fontana man has pleaded guilty to his part in a crew that committed armed robberies at pharmacies across Southern California. Aaron Carter, 39, entered his plea in Los Angeles federal court on Friday. He faces counts of interference with commerce by robbery and using a firearm in a crime of violence, according to court documents. According to his plea agreement, Carter and four others robbed pharmacies in Newport Beach, Woodland Hills, Temecula and Fullerton in August and September in 2024. They also attempted to rob two of the same stores in October that year. Investigators with a violent crime task force in Orange County, which works with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, had been investigating pharmacy heists across the region, said an affidavit in the case. They say that three male suspects wearing hoodies and face masks entered the pharmacies during each incident. Prosecutors said that two of the suspects, each armed with a gun, would force employees to the ground while they stole crash from the registers. At the same time, a third suspect would use a trash can from inside the pharmacies and load it with stolen drugs. They further noted that the same group returned to a Woodland Hills pharmacy in October, which they had previously robbed, but the employees prevented them from entering upon recognizing them. Instead, they fled from the area. A week later, prosecutors said that two members of the crew attempted to rob the same Temecula store they had previously targeted, but store employees told them they didn't have access to either the safe or the drugs they were demanding. After this failed attempt, authorities attempted to arrest the suspects, but they drove away at high speeds. After fleeing for some time, they crashed into an unmarked patrol car. All four were arrested without further incident. Carter was charged in Oct. 2024, as was Diamond Lucious, 26, of Victorville, 35-year-old San Bernardino resident Isaac Penaldoza, and 25-year-old Menifee resident Kamaria Kendrick. Lucious and Penaldoza pleaded guilty in June to the same charges as Carter. They both will be sentenced in September. Kendrick pleaded guilty earlier in August and is scheduled for sentencing in November.

ICE Arrests Mexican National After He Crashes Into Government Vehicles, Injures Officer
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested a Mexican national and illegal immigrant after he allegedly crashed into two government vehicles while attempting to flee from a traffic stop in his vehicle. A federal officer was injured in the crash, according to authorities. The crash happened on Aug. 11, during a joint operation between ICE and other federal law enforcement agencies in San Diego, when they attempted a traffic stop. The twice-deported man, with a prior conviction for driving under the influence, tried to evade the stop, and in doing so, collided with vehicles and caused the injury.
