Anker Recalls More Than 1 Million PowerCore 10000 Power Banks: What to Know

CNET12-06-2025
The electronics maker Anker recalled its PowerCore 10000 power banks with the model number A1263 after receiving 19 reports of fires and explosions.
According to an alert posted Thursday by the Consumer Products Safety Commission, more than 1.1 million of the products sold in the US are affected by the recall. The company plans to replace the charging devices, but customers who have them must submit photo evidence of ownership and also prove that they've disposed of the PowerCore devices properly before receiving a replacement. Anker recommends contacting a local hazardous waste collection center versus disposing of it in the trash or through standard recycling services.
The PowerCore, made in China, is one of four current power bank recalls that have been issued by Anker. The others include the 334 MagGo 10K battery, the 321 Power Bank (5K) and the 535 Power Bank (20K).
Airlines have taken note of portable battery hazards. Recently, Southwest Airlines changed its policy on charging devices inside of carry-on bags. Some international airlines have also begun limiting the types of lithium chargers fliers can bring on planes due to risks of overheating.
How to check if your Anker PowerCore has been recalled
Anker says the products affected are the A1263 model of the PowerCore 10000 power bank that were purchased between June 1, 2016 and Dec. 31, 2022.
Customers can verify their serial number at a webpage provided by Anker. The serial number is on the bottom of the device.
In entering the number, Anker advises, "Pay attention to the letters and numbers in the serial number: '1', 'L', 'I', '2' and 'Z'. Please note that characters such as '0 (zero)' and 'O' (o) may be entered incorrectly. Regarding the serial number of the target product, 'O' and 'I' are not used.
What to do if your Anker PowerCore has been recalled
In addition to instructing customers to stop using the chargers immediately, the CPSC and Anker posted requirements for receiving a replacement PowerCore device.

SpaceX reveals target date for Starship's 10th flight test

SpaceX's Starship rocket last flew at the end of May. Just over two weeks later, as it prepared for the 10th flight test, the upper-stage Starship spacecraft suddenly exploded on the ground at SpaceX's Starbase facility near Boca Chica, Texas. Not surprisingly, the setback delayed plans for the 10th flight test, but on Friday, SpaceX announced a target date for the highly anticipated event: Sunday, August 24, with a launch window opening at 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET). The tenth flight test of Starship is preparing to launch as soon as Sunday, August 24 → — SpaceX (@SpaceX) August 15, 2025 The Starship, which comprises the first-stage Super Heavy booster and the upper-stage Starship spacecraft, is the most powerful rocket ever to fly, generating around 17 million pounds of thrust as it leaves the launchpad. NASA is planning to use the rocket for crew and cargo missions to the moon as part of the Artemis program, and even for the first crewed missions to Mars. But before then, SpaceX needs to fully prove the rocket's capabilities and safety through continued refinement and testing. Recommended Videos In a post on its website on Friday, SpaceX said that its engineers have been spending the last few months making hardware and operational changes to increase the vehicle's reliability. Notably, the upcoming flight test will not see the upper-stage booster landing back at the launch tower as seen with some of the earlier flights. Instead, the 71-meter-tall booster will descend into the ocean, allowing SpaceX to test various controlled landing burns and recovery techniques without risking damage to the Starbase facilities. SpaceX also said it will run several experiments focused on enabling the Starship's upper stage to return to the launch site in a future test. 'Flight tests continue to provide valuable learnings to inform the design of the next generation Starship and Super Heavy vehicles,' the company said on Friday. 'With production ramping up inside Starfactory at Starbase alongside new launch and test infrastructure actively being built in Texas and Florida, Starship is poised to continue iterating towards a rapidly and fully reusable launch system.'

Federal Reserve removes massive hurdle for crypto bankers

Federal Reserve removes massive hurdle for crypto bankers originally appeared on TheStreet. The Federal Reserve Board on Friday announced it will sunset its 'novel activities' supervision program and return to monitoring banks' crypto-asset and fintech activities through the normal supervisory process. In its Aug. 15, , the Board said the move reflects 'a strengthened understanding of those activities, related risks, and bank risk management practices.' With that, it is rescinding its 2023 supervisory letter that created the program. The letter read: "The Board is integrating that knowledge and the supervision of those activities back into the standard supervisory process and is rescinding its 2023 supervisory letter creating the program." On Aug. 8, 2023, the board established the Novel Activities Supervision Program 'to enhance the supervision of novel activities conducted by banking organizations supervised by the Federal Reserve.' The focus was on crypto-asset custody, crypto-collateralized lending, facilitating digital asset trading, stablecoin and dollar token issuance, and projects using distributed ledger technology 'with the potential for significant impact on the financial system,' including tokenization of securities and other assets. It also targeted complex, technology-driven partnerships with non-banks, such as API-based service delivery, and close monitoring of banks providing deposits, payments, and lending to crypto-related entities. At the time, the Fed argued that 'financial innovation… can lead to rapid change… and generate novel manifestations of risks' that existing oversight might not address. The program was designed to be risk-based, integrated with existing supervisory portfolios, and to ensure that 'banking organizations are neither prohibited nor discouraged from providing banking services to customers of any specific class or type, as permitted by law or regulation.' The immediate change aligns with moves by other regulators, such as the FDIC and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which have relaxed procedural barriers to banks' involvement in crypto, focusing instead on risk management and compliance. The shift also comes under a political backdrop that has grown markedly friendlier to digital assets. President Donald Trump's administration has pushed to make the U.S. the 'crypto capital of the world.' On August 14, Treasury Secretary Scott Besson announced plans to purchase more Bitcoin and establish a formal U.S. Bitcoin reserve — a move that, alongside Friday's Fed action, underscores Washington's pivot toward embracing crypto in the banking sector.
