Midfielder Geremi also played for Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Real Madrid.
The 46-year-old has headed the Cameroon players' union Synafoc in recent years.
But the West African country's FA, Fecafoot, has now banned him from football until 2030, as well as fining him £13,000.
Ex- Chelsea, Everton, Barcelona and Inter Milan star Eto'o, 44, is president of the association.
Their dispute dates back to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, when Geremi is said to have had a dressing-room row with one of Eto'o's staff.
Fecafoot's ethics committee announced: "We declare Geremi Sorel Njitap, the president of Synafoc, guilty of breaking the behaviour rules of our code of ethics.
"We sentence him to a ban from all forms of football activity for five years, and to a fine of ten million West African francs [£13,000].
"He has ten days to submit a written appeal."

Watch: Pitch invader calls for ‘end of stray-dog massacre' at Club World Cup
A Peta activist broke onto Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia during Manchester City's opening Club World Cup tie to protest against the alleged mass culling of cats and dogs in Morrocco. The invader sprinted on before play could resume after Jeremy Doku scored City's second goal against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca. The man was holding a banner above his head that read 'Morocco: Stop shooting dogs and cats'. He ran towards the goal behind which the Wydad fans were congregated before being chased by stewards and security. Eventually he was tackled to the ground before being led away, but the incident will be an embarrassment to Fifa and the local authorities given the potential security risk and with next year's World Cup also being held in the United States. Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is campaigning against an apparent project that plans to eliminate around three million stray dogs in Morocco to keep the streets clean ahead of co-hosting the World Cup in 2030, along with Spain and Portugal. It is claimed that the authorities are using public health and the fear of rabies, which is a risk in Morocco, as a reason for the killing of the animals which has led to protests and lobbying. Indeed, a British mother has died of rabies after being scratched by a puppy while on holiday in Morocco. Yvonne Ford, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was 'scratched very slightly' by the puppy in February but only started displaying symptoms earlier this month, her daughter said. The government has a 'trap, neuter, vaccinate and return' policy, but have been accused of culling the dogs and cats instead.

Pep Guardiola fumes at Rico Lewis' red card in Man City's Club World Cup opener - but John Obi Mikel disagrees as fans are left split over decision
Pep Guardiola expressed his frustration after Rico Lewis was sent off late in Man City 's Club World Cup opener. City beat Moroccan outfit Wydad 2-0 after a controlled performance, with first half goals from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku proving to be the difference. Guardiola's side cruised through the second period but disaster struck in the 88th minute when Lewis was sent off by referee Ramon Abatti after he caught Samuel Obeng in the face with his follow through after sliding in for a challenge. The decision split opinion, with Lewis winning the ball and he was unable to do anything about the collision, although Abatti immediately brandished a red card, before VAR confirmed his call. Lewis was left shocked at the decision and stayed on the pitch for several minutes to protest his innocence in what was a small blot on an impressive start to the tournament for City. And, speaking after the game, Guardiola, who also remonstrated with Abatti at full-time, leapt to the defence of Lewis. 'He got the ball, both feet on the grass,' Guardiola said. 'He [Ramon Abatti] said, "No, the feet and leg was high", but it's on the grass! It's natural! 'Rico never had absolutely any intention, but it doesn't matter, it is what it is.' However, former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, who was working as a pundit on Channel 5's coverage of the game, disagreed with Guardiola. 'The argument is he got the ball,' Mikel said. 'But he left it there high, and catches him high. You can see the leg move there [towards him]. I don't think [it's momentum]. 'I think the referee made the right decision.' The decision also split opinion on social media, with some fans left astonished at Lewis being handed his marching orders. One said: 'Rico Lewis sent off after winning the ball,' as another added: 'That Rico Lewis red card... tackling of any kind is getting closer and closer to being completely outlawed if that's deemed a red card. Joke of a decision.' A further fan chimed in with a similar opinion as they said: 'How on earth is that a red? These refs are still ridiculously bad. So they want Rico Lewis to slide and pull out of the challenge at the same time? Come on.' Ref Cam captured THAT Rico Lewis tackle 🤯 Watch the @FIFACWC | June 14 - July 13 | Every Game | Free | | #FIFACWC #TakeItToTheWorld #MCIWAC — DAZN Football (@DAZNFootball) June 18, 2025 Several supporters were left split over the call which will see Lewis receive a suspension Nevertheless, others backed the call as one added: 'RED CARD! Rico Lewis is sent off! 'How?' he asks. You kicked someone in the face, Rico.' Meanwhile, an extra supporter quipped: 'That Rico Lewis red card is at the same time never a red in a million years and also a straight red every day of the week. No intent, but can see why it's given.' Lewis had earlier impressed during the game as part of a new-look City team that included new signings Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, while January arrival Victor Reis made just his fourth start for the club. Guardiola's side now face UAE outfit Al-Ain on Monday, before they take on Juventus in their final group game next Thursday.
