We have another biopic about a famous musician coming, and this time it's about Bruce Springsteen.
Springsteen, nicknamed "the Boss," is considered one of the most influential musicians in American rock. His career has spanned six decades, with a majority of his albums featuring the iconic E Street Band. After releasing his first two albums, he achieved worldwide popularity with Born to Run in 1975, and then again with Born in the U.S.A. in 1984.
Springsteen has won 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award. He's also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. And in 2010, Rolling Stone ranked him No. 23 on their "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list, saying, "In many ways, Bruce Springsteen is the embodiment of rock & roll."
So now, it seems like the only other thing that needs to be checked off the list is a biopic about his life and how he changed music forever.
Directed and written by Scott Cooper, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere will chronicle Springsteen's time making his 1982 album Nebraska, an album that was recorded in his New Jersey bedroom, and marked a pivotal time in his career before he was launched into global superstardom.
Cooper is best known for his Academy Award-nominated work on 2009's Crazy Heart starring Jeff Bridges.
Speaking about Deliver Me From Nowhere, Springsteen told Variety, "They pitched the idea, and I said, 'It sounds like fun.' It's an interesting concept, because it's only a couple of years out of my life. It's '81, '82, and centered around the creation of that particular record while I was simultaneously recording Born in the USA and also going through some personal difficulties that I've been living with my whole life. But it's fantastic."
The film stars Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen and Jeremy Strong as Jon Landau, Springsteen's manager and record producer.
It also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Odessa Young, Stephen Graham, Gaby Hoffmann, Marc Maron, David Krumholtz, Johnny Cannizzaro, and more.
Teasing Jeremy Allen White's performance, Springsteen told SiriusXM, "He sings well. He sings very well." He also added, "Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He's got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize, and he's just done a great job, so I've had a lot of fun. I've had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there."
And this takes us to now, when 20th Century Studios released the first trailer for Deliver Me From Nowhere, and we get to see Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen for the first time.
Here's a side-by-side from the trailer of Jeremy performing "Born to Run, which was released in 1975, vs. Springsteen himself around the same time:
Of course, Jeremy is best known for his work in Shameless as Lip Gallagher and for his Emmy Award-winning turn as Carmy in The Bear. He also received critical-aclaim for his work in The Iron Claw.
And here's another side-by-side of Jeremy and Springsteen:
The trailer also gave us a first look at Jeremy Strong as Jon Landau, who was Springsteen's longtime manager and producer. In fact, he's credited with writing in a 1974 article for The Real Paper, per the New York Times, "I saw rock and roll's future and its name is Bruce Springsteen!"
Of course, Jeremy is best known for his Emmy Award-winning work as Kendall Roy in Succession. He also recently earned his first Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in The Apprentice.
Here's Odessa Young as Faye, who stars as Springsteen's love interest in Deliver Me From Nowhere. She's an Australian actor who is best known for starring in films like Looking for Grace and The Daughter, and the 2022 limited series The Staircase. Next up, she'll be seen in the Netflix series, Black Rabbit, alongside Jason Bateman and Jude Law.
Paul Walter Hauser stars as Mike Batlan, Springsteen's recording engineer during the Nebraska sessions. He was also Springsteen's guitar tech. Paul is best known for his work in movies like I, Tonya and Cruella. He also starred in Cobra Kai and won an Emmy Award in 2024 for his work in the limited series Black Bird.
Here's Stephen Graham as Douglas Springsteen, Bruce's father. Stephen is best known for his work in shows like Boardwalk Empire, Peaky Blinders, and most recently Adolescence. He also appeared in movies like Gangs of New York, The Irishman, This Is England, and more.
Here's Gaby Hoffmann as Adele Springsteen, Bruce's mother. Previously, Gaby has starred in shows like Girls and Transparent, and she's known for her work as a child actor, having appeared in movies like Field of Dreams, Uncle Buck, Now and Then, Sleepless in Seattle, and more.
And while you don't get a super clear shot of him in the trailer, Johnny Cannizzaro is set to star as Steven Van Zandt, aka Little Steven, who is a member of Springsteen's E Street Band. Johnny is best known for starring as Nick DeVito in the film adaptation of Jersey Boys.
Well, that's all we have so far! I'm personally excited to see Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen, and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot about this movie when awards season rolls around, too.

KayCyy Comes Into His Own on 'BEFORE I WAS BORN'

KayCyyhas been one of contemporary hip-hop's favorite featured artists. The Kenya-born, Saint Paul, Minnesota-bred rapper has racked up a Rolodex of industry-wide A-list co-signs and credits. Most notably, just when he started gaining momentum as a rising artist, KayCyy contributed production and writing toYe'sDondain 2021, having worked closely with the rapper since connecting through mutual friend and record executive Abou 'Bu' Thiam, who later went on to become both artists' managers. Now 27 years old, KayCyy earned a coveted Grammy nom for for Album of the Year for his work onDonda, nabbing the Grammy win for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his backing vocals on 'Hurricane.' After proving his production prowess onDonda,KayCyy continued his momentum with some more standout singles (including 'Stay Up' withLancey Foux), followed by his first-ever collaborative EP withGesaffelstein,TW20 50, which spanned a trio of tracks and dropped on streaming services in March of 2022. The project established the pair's unexpectedly effortless-sounding ease of creative collaboration, KayCyy's slick vocals sliding over the distinctly smooth Gesaffelstein melodies, laying the groundwork for the duo's second collaborative EP,TW2052,in May of 2023, which came after another impressive KayCyy mixtape,Get Used To It, which dropped in June of 2022 and features Foux and 070 Shake among others. It's not just the heavyweights, theLil Keeds andJoey Bada$$es, that KayCyy chooses to tap in with; onGet Used To It,the malleable musician chooses to champion other emerging talent like Annahstasia and Nigerian-London singer Steven Bamidele. To close out 2023, the rapper hopped onTravis Scott'sUTOPIA,offering up vocals to 'THANK GOD,' on which KayCyy wasn't credited, which prompted him to drop 'My Jeans' with original cover art that read 'I'M NOT NO BACKGROUND SINGER.' Shortly thereafter, he assistedWestside GunnwithAnd Then You Pray For Metitle track, 'AND THEN YOU PRAY FOR ME,' closing out Gunn's captivating album on a high note. He's spent the last year or so continuing to dial in his sound, showing out on more small artist features and just over two months before droppingBEFORE I WAS BORN,he dropped another collaborative mixtape with Irish musician sign crushes motorist, curating a duo they called HIIBRYD. DubbedSADDEST TRUTH,the tape leans into a more indie-inspired rap sound and arrives as another prime example of KayCyy's collaborative capabilities and the versatility of his shape-shifting sonic persona. That's all to say that each one of these collaborative mixtapes, singles, and production credits has paved the way forBEFORE I WAS BORN. Handled almost completely solo, the 13-track project is an ode to KayCyy's independence – something only made possible by the journey he took to get here. Still toeing the line between being a behind-the-scenes force from the shadows and stepping fully into the mainstream, this is likely the most lowkey KayCyy will ever be. The first trailer for the Bruce Springsteen biopic with Jeremy Allen White just dropped and I couldn't be more excited

The first full-length trailer for the new Bruce Springsteen biopic was released today, giving us our first taste of Jeremy Allen White as one of the most popular rock stars of the last 50 years. As someone born and raised in New Jersey (and who's been to his share of Springsteen concerts), the trailer has me more excited than Courtney Cox at a concert for the movie's official release this October. Instead of looking over his entire career, a la "Ray" or "Walk the Line," "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere" captures a specific point in time: when Bruce was recording his 1982 album "Nebraska." During that era, he was already fairly popular — he had already recorded five albums, including "Born to Run" and "The River" — but had yet to reach the levels of superstardom with "Born in the U.S.A.," which didn't come out until 1984. In the trailer, we see Jeremy Allen White as the adult Springsteen, finally with some success, sitting behind the wheel of a new Camaro — complete with a 305 V8 engine, a nod to Springsteen's many car references in his songs. The trailer also shows a few flashbacks in black and white of the artist as a boy and the difficulties he faced growing up. It then cuts to his recording of the album solo in his home. At the end of the trailer, we get a taste of White's crooning abilities as he sings "Born to Run" with the rest of the E Street Band. And, I have to say, from that brief clip, he does more than a passable job at imitating the Boss's voice. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere" is directed by Scott Cooper ("Black Mass," "Hostiles") and also stars Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffman, Jeremy Strong, and David Krumholtz. It will be released exclusively in theaters on October 24.

‘Be open to the moment you never expected': How ‘Road Diary' captured Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in full force

Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band is a melancholic blast. In the hands of longtime Bruce Springsteen collaborator, director, and editor Thom Zimny, the many compelling, sometimes contrasting shades of the Boss are on full display in the Hulu documentary — the artist and the showman, the poet and the ham, and above all, a lively force grappling with death and the passage of time. Road Diary follows Springsteen and the E Street Band both in the studio and on tour, bringing people together after the pandemic. More from GoldDerby Tom Cruise finally gets his (honorary) Oscar moment: Here's his complete awards history Alan Cumming would be the 4th person to repeat in Best Reality Host: See fresh Emmy odds Dolly Parton adds honorary Oscar to her trophy shelf: A look back at her legendary awards history Zimny wanted the story of Springsteen and the band's return to the road — after a six-year break — to unfold naturally. 'I did not come in with a preconceived pitch of 'this documentary will reflect the world,'' Zimny told Gold Derby. 'I took my cues from watching Bruce. In those rehearsals, I saw him craft a setlist that dealt with looking at life and the past and loss and the present moment, being alive in the present moment as much as you can. The show itself was a guiding force in the edit.' Capturing the scope of any Springsteen and E Street Band show is a tall order. As Springsteen says in the film's opening, he wanted to throw the biggest party he could with this tour. But in under 100 minutes, how does a filmmaker capture all the intense emotions that flow during the Boss' legendary three-hour shows? 'When I'm looking at how to bottle this experience and put it forth in a film,' Zimny said, 'I try to focus on my own personal memories, taking cues from the faces in the crowd and the connection they're having. And with Road Diary, I wanted to make it an emotional film and film it in a way that captured transitions in people's eyes, transitions while they're listening to the music.' The film also captures Springsteen's evolution from perfectionist to an artist embracing beautiful mistakes. Let the song live how it lives, basically. 'What he said in the documentary, in the spontaneous moment to the band, was that you want to be able to fuck up during the course of the night because it's live,' Zimny said. 'That's what the people are paying for. In that, I find the philosophy that I've held onto in making films with Bruce: come fully prepared, but be open to the moment you never expected.' For Zimny, his own perfectionism kicks in during post-production, specifically in the sound department. Communicating the thundering sound of a Springsteen show is a delicate process. 'Capturing that quality in the mix was an obsession,' Zimny said. 'You feel the bass in your heart and the drums in your stomach, like you're in the pit. Capturing that gave it the cinematic language of a narrative film. There's not a mix just laid onto a clip — every shot had detailed work on crowd sound and instrument balance. We mix to picture. It's not done casually.' Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band is an immediate portrayal of where the band is today — not just how they play, but how they live. Zimny and his team show how they got there, often through archival footage that — in true Springsteen and Zimny fashion — doesn't soften the edges. 'The power of memory is that the flicker and the lack of clarity evoke a romantic feeling,' Zimny said. 'If I cleaned it up and balanced the color, took out some of the video textures, it would take away some of the soul. But each individual clip is looked at closely. How far do you go to clean it up? You've got to listen to that voice inside the edit room when you just go, 'Wow, this really takes me back.'' Best of GoldDerby 'It was wonderful to be on that ride': Christian Slater talks his beloved roles, from cult classics ('Heathers,' 'True Romance') to TV hits ('Mr. Robot,' 'Dexter: Original Sin') Sam Rockwell on Frank's 'White Lotus' backstory, Woody Harrelson's influence, and going all in on 'this arc of Buddhist to Bad Lieutenant' Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh admit they 'never had the audacity to realize' a show like 'Deli Boys' was possible Click here to read the full article.
