Basrah crude edges lower despite global oil gains
Basrah crude prices slipped slightly on Wednesday even as global oil benchmarks rose on renewed supply concerns.
Basrah Heavy crude fell 9 cents, or 0.14%, to $64.38 a barrel. Basrah Medium also declined 9 cents, or 0.13%, to $67.63.
The dip came as Brent crude gained to $65.93 and US West Texas Intermediate to $62.72, supported by fears that sanctions on Russian exports could persist amid protracted peace talks with Ukraine.

Israel gives final approval for E1 settlement project
Shafaq News – Middle East Israel has granted final approval for the long-stalled E1 settlement project in the occupied West Bank, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Wednesday. The E1 area, located between Jerusalem and the Maale Adumim settlement, has been at the center of international opposition for decades due to its strategic position. Developing it would effectively sever the West Bank from occupied East Jerusalem, preventing a contiguous Palestinian urban area linking Ramallah, East Jerusalem, and Bethlehem. According to the report, the plan authorizes construction of roughly 3,400 housing units in East Jerusalem, adjacent to Maale Adumim, while a separate project in Asahael near the southern hills of al-Khalil clears 342 units with accompanying infrastructure and public facilities. The approval came days after far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced fresh settlement moves under the E1 scheme at a press conference with Yesha Council Chairman Israel Ganz and Maale Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrach, declaring, 'After decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Maale Adumim to Jerusalem. This is Zionism at its best — building, settling, and strengthening our sovereignty in the Land of Israel.'

Basrah Airport shifts ground services to Lebanese company
Shafaq News – Basra Basrah International Airport has directed all airlines to shift ground handling and related services to the Lebanese company Charter under a new contract with the Iraqi Airports Administration Directorate. An official document obtained by Shafaq News confirms that Charter began providing cargo, transport, and ground operations on August 19, 2025 in accordance with international standards. Airport Director Hassan Abdulhadi told our agency the Lebanese firm—already active in more than 35 airports worldwide—won the contract after the previous deal with a local provider expired, stressing that Charter 'has no involvement in airport management' and its role is confined to ground services with modern, certified equipment. He emphasized that the partnership aims to raise service quality, improve efficiency, protect public funds, and bring operations in line with global aviation practices.
