event announced that the tendering process for four highways with automated systems has been started, paving the way for zero queues at the toll gates.
'We have started the tendering process for four highways and it will be rolled out across the country. It will be a completely automated system which will end the queues at the toll gates,' said Gakdari at the event.
'There will be a six inch pipe at the entry which would be fitted with cameras and scanners which can read your FASTag and the toll would be deducted only for the distance travelled," said the minister.
Speaking on road accidents, Gadkari said that nearly 1.80 lakh people lose their lives in such incidents every year. At least 65% of these victims are young people aged between 18 to 34 years, underscoring the vulnerability of the nation's youth on the roads. 'This is a shocking reality. We are losing more lives on our roads than in riots or pandemics,' Gadkari said, emphasising the urgency of improving
road safety measures
in the country.
Additionally, Gadkari has ruled out any
subsidy
or support to the industry with relation to Research and Development (R&D) into the crash barriers. 'Instead of providing subsidies we can purchase them, as there is a huge demand for them which will help the manufacturer. We are constructing around 40-50 highways and all of them would be access controlled, generating a large demand for crash barriers, like Gorakhpur to Siliguri and Chennai to Delhi,' said Gadkari. The Union Minister also confirmed that several companies have now started making
crash barriers
with materials like bamboo, timber and GRP( Glass Reinforced Plastic) which will also reduce steel consumption.

Union Ministers, MPs must safeguard state's interests: DKS
Bengaluru: In view of Maharashtra CM raising objection to increasing height of Alamatti dam, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday called upon the Union Ministers and MPs from Karnataka to safeguard state's interests. 'As per the Krishna Tribunal's order, Karnataka can increase the height of Alamatti dam to 524 meters. Maharashtra, which was quiet when the order was pronounced, has suddenly written a letter to our CM objecting to it. I appeal to all the Union Ministers and MPs with folded hands to protect state's interest in this,' the DCM, who also handles Irrigation portfolio, said addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha. 'Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has written a letter to our CM Siddaramaiah on May 9 raising objection to increasing the height of Alamatti dam. Stating that Sangli and Kolhapur districts would face flooding if the height of the dam is raised, the letter has asked for re-evaluating the plan. This letter is a shock to us. Maharashtra had never raised objection to this project till now. They had not raised any issues when the Tribunal passed its judgement in 2010. Maharashtra had even submitted an affidavit to the Tribunal seeking increasing Alamatti height but it is opposing it all of a sudden. 'This project is our right accorded by the Krishna Tribunal. Our CM will give a reply to the letter by the Maharashtra CM. Union Minister V Somanna is part of Union Jal Shakthi ministry. Alamatti project is needed for the state, we don't want friction with our neighbouring state. The cost escalation is very due to delay in this project. We would need Rs 1 lakh crore for land acquisition for this project,' he said. 'Flooding in Maharashtra is their internal matter and they need to fix it. We will meet the PM and the Union Jal Shakthi Minister and put pressure regarding this. Karnataka has been waiting for a Gazette notification for increasing Alamatti height since 2013. How long should we wait? We will share the letter from Maharashtra CM and our reply to that to all our MPs.' Asked if Maharashtra CM's letter has a political motive, he said, 'I don't want to get into that now, I will only speak for our state's interest. There is no scientific basis for the letter. Increasing Alamatti dam is our right and we appeal to all parties concerned to let us execute the project.'

Elon Musk's Tesla "Not Interested" In Manufacturing In India: Minister
New Delhi: Tesla, the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle giant, is not interested in manufacturing in India and is keen on opening showrooms, Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy said on Monday. The remarks came amid the government's push to promote domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). " are only to start showrooms. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's father, Errol Musk, who is in India, appeared keen on Tesla's presence in the country. "That is something that I have to be careful not to say too much about. Tesla is a public company. It's not you look at India and the population, the kind of people you've got here, the energy and everything and when I hear that, with great respect, BYD and various others are coming in, and Tatas and Mahindra are making great cars, I'm very inclined to say, wait, why aren't we having Teslas here. But I can't say too much. That's just a personal point of view," he said. He was answering a query about plans for Tesla's presence in India. The central government on Monday notified guidelines for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India. The central government approved a forward-looking scheme to promote the domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). The initiative is aligned with India's national goals of achieving net zero by 2070, fostering sustainable mobility, driving economic growth, and reducing environmental impact. It is designed to firmly establish India as a premier global destination for automotive manufacturing and innovation. Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has issued a notification regarding detailed guidelines for the "Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India" (SPMEPCI / the Scheme)MHI had issued the Scheme notification on March 15 2024. The Department of Revenue also issued the notification on March 15, 2024, for reduced import duties in line with the provisions of the scheme. The notice for inviting applications under the Scheme is proposed to be notified shortly, whereby the prospective applicants would be able to submit online applications. The scheme shall help to attract investments from global EV manufacturers and promote India as a manufacturing destination for e-vehicles. The Scheme will also help put India on the global map for manufacturing of EVs, generate employment and achieve the goal of "Make in India". To encourage the global manufacturers to invest under the Scheme, the approved applicants will be allowed to import Completely Built-in Units (CBUs) of e-4W with a minimum CIF value of USD 35,000 at reduced customs duty of 15% for a period of 5 years from the Application Approval Date. Approved applicants would be required to make a minimum investment of Rs 4,150 crore in line with the provisions of the scheme.
