Weekend events continue in Kansas City amid heat advisory
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A heat advisory is in effect in the Kansas City metro through Monday, but people are still finding ways to stay cool and enjoy the list of events happening. One of those events is Kansas City's Juneteenth Heritage Festival. Kansas City's 18th and Vine District was filled with vendors, food, live entertainment, and performances on Saturday. More unpaid IHOP employees come forward, share frustrations 'We come every year and we really enjoy it, so we're excited to see all of the different vendors and some of the kids' activities,' said Tanasha Wilson, who attended the Juneteenth Heritage Festival. The heat didn't stop people from celebrating at Kansas City's 14th annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival. People came prepared with water, shade, and fans. 'Water lots of water and I have my shade,' said Renay Hewitt, who attended the Juneteenth Heritage Festival. 'It's hot. But it's always great to see a group of people come together for a good occasion.' It's a celebration that people look forward to each year, rain or shine. 'Very good, I love it. I've been here since 9 o'clock this morning, and there are still a lot of people coming. We do this every year, and I love it,' said Talmage Chinn, who was at the festival. A list of events took place around the Kansas City metro despite the high temperatures, including 'Make Music Day'. Northland man frustrated after water main break appears to flood home The event features free live music performances at venues all over the KC metro from musicians of all ages, genres, and styles. Performances take place in various and often unexpected locations. Bar K Dog Park was one of many participating venues. 'I love dogs, so I'm happy I'm here. But also, I'm just glad Kansas City is doing more for its live music scene and allowing people to come in at different shops, different venues, and just show the city how talented everyone is,' said Audrey Apprill, a musician participating in Make Music Day Kansas City. If you will be outdoors during the heat advisory, stay hydrated and have a plan to cool down if needed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Families celebrate Juneteenth with music, food and history at Arlington's Levitt Pavilion
Families gathered Saturday afternoon at Levitt Pavilion to celebrate Juneteenth with music, food and community spirit. "It's just a great family gathering. We can bring the kids out, whether they're infants or teenagers. There's something for everybody to do out here," said Shamona Sledge. This marks the fourth year that Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has hosted the event. CBS News Texas' Marvin Hurst, McKenna King and Brittany Rainey were on hand to welcome the crowd. Teaching Juneteenth history to the next generation Attendees said the event was not only fun but also an important opportunity to educate children about the history and significance of Juneteenth. "We take it upon ourselves as the elders — we don't want our children to forget where they came from," Sledge said. "We make it a point to educate them, talk to them and teach them everything we can remember about the past." Fifteen-year-old Cassidy Sledge said there's no better way to celebrate the holiday. "It makes me feel happy because events like these help people come together," she said. "It's really fun to meet new people and socialize with them." Family-friendly Juneteenth celebration in Arlington As the sun set, attendees enjoyed live music, browsed local vendors and sampled food from across the region. "This right here, to me, represents the spirituality of Juneteenth," said Chris McAfee.

A denim trucker jacket because every season deserves a tried and true staple that goes with literally everything. But, don't get it twisted. Every denim jacket isn't just a replica of another. This one features a trucker jacket silhouette and a distressed hem to set it apart from the others. Promising review: "I received this jacket in the mail yesterday and I like it. I feel like to could be styled with dresses, jeans and trousers depending on the look you are trying to achieve. IMO, the fit is true to size. Also, in my opinion, there is not a lot of stretch. I ordered a 2 and that's what i normally order in shirts, jackets and blazers. The sleeves hit right at the wrist. My favorite part of the jacket is the raw hem at the bottom. I will probably also purchase the darker denim. I would recommend." —Lovin All Things DenimPrice: $41.94 (originally $69.90; available in sizes M–6X and two colors) A sleeveless mini dress featuring pockets that reviewers can't stop raving about.
