2,000 and counting! Kennedy's Fields with milestone night in state tournament
HERMITAGE, Pa. (WKBN) – The Kennedy Catholic girls cruised in the First Round of the Class 2A PIAA State Tournament with a 75-49 win over Fort Cherry Friday night.

Eagle's senior Layke Fields finished with a team-high 26 points and surpassed 2,000 career points in the victory.
Kennedy junior Bella Magestro finished with 18 points, and sophomore Tori Harvey added 16.
The Golden Eagles will now advance to the PIAA Second Round on Tuesday, March 11. They will face Neshannock, who knocked off Everett, 58-21.

YSU senior finishes Top-10 at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
EUGENE, Oregon (WKBN) – YSU senior Tye Hunt finished 10th in the long jump at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. Hunt's best jump measured 7.77m at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. University of Florida senior and three-time First Team All-American Malcolm Clemons won the event with a jump of 8.04m on his first attempt to win his first national title. Hunt was one of 24 finalists in the country to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He posted a season-best 7.92m at the Virginia Challenge in April. He also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last year and finished in ninth place to earn All-American honors. Hunt's teammate Hunter Christopher will compete in the 5,000m NCAA finals on Friday. Scrappers comeback spoiled by late Thunder rally
NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers surrendered a lead in the ninth inning during an 11-9 loss to the Trenton Thunder in MLB Draft League action at Eastwood Field. After trailing at one point, 8-2, the Scrappers scored seven straight runs to take a 9-8 lead into the final inning. The Thunder then scored three runs in the top of the ninth before sitting the home team down in order in the bottom half. Leading the way for the Mahoning Valley was Daniel Stewart, going 5-for-5 on the day with three runs batted in. Khi Holliday and Cardell Thibodeaux also drove in two runs each for the Scrappers. For Trenton, Jakob Poturnak went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and John Schroeder hit a two-run home run and also registered three RBIs. Scheffler primed to win first U.S. Open
OAKMONT, Pa (WKBN) – Scottie Scheffler is currently ranked number one according to the Official World Golf Rankings and has his eyes on the 125th U.S. Open Golf Championship at Oakmont Country Club next. Watch above for an interview with Scheffler and highlights from his practice rounds! 'I remember coming here and thinking that was really fun, really cool to be playing the U.S. Open,' said Scheffler. 'It's my first major and was maybe my third start on the pro tour at the time, those are very cool experiences.' Scheffler's best performance at the U.S. Open came in 2022 as he tied for 2nd with Will Zalatoris. 'This golf course, there's not many trees out there, but there's so many bunkers,' said Scheffler. 'I don't really know if there's a golf course you can necessarily just overpower with kind of a bomb and gouge type of strategy, especially with the way the rough is. You have to play the angles.' The 125th U.S. Open is Scheffler's seventh time playing the tournament. Scheffler first qualified for the tournament in 2016 and was a low amateur in 2017. 'This is probably the hardest golf course that we'll play, maybe ever, and I mean, that's pretty much all it is,' said Scheffler. The World No. 1 ranked golfer already has won three tournaments in 2025. His wins this year include the 2025 PGA Championship in May at Quail Hollow Club. 'I'm going to try to hit the green, whether it's a three-order driver from that back tee, it depends on wind direction, but basically you're going to try to get the ball in the green and two putt,' said Scheffler.
