Unbelievable! Babar Azam Has Gone 711 Days Without An International Hundred, Last Time Was In...
Babar Azam's poor ODI form continued with a three-ball duck against West Indies. The last time he scored a hundred in international cricket was back in August 30, 2023
Babar Azam's poor run in ODIs continued on Sunday as the star batter was dismissed for a three-ball duck in Pakistan's second match of the three-game ODI series against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.
After Saim Ayub (23 off 31) edged a delivery from Jayden Seales to slip, Babar came in at No.3. He defended the first two deliveries he faced before misjudging a full ball, playing down the wrong line, and losing his stumps.
This was Babar's fifth duck in his ODI career, with the previous one occurring against Afghanistan in August 2023. On that occasion, he bounced back with consecutive fifties and a 151 against Nepal in the 2023 Asia Cup — his most recent international century.
Since then, he has struggled, scoring 929 runs in 28 ODI innings at an average of 37.16 and a strike rate of 79.53, significantly lower than his career averages of 54.62 and 87.78.
Babar's dip in form hasn't been limited to ODIs following the 2023 Asia Cup. In Tests, his batting average has dropped to 23.15 from 10 matches, with no centuries and three fifties since the Nepal game. In T20Is during this period, he has scored 738 runs at an average of 33.54 and a strike rate of 133.21 across 24 matches.
In fact, Babar's wait for a 32nd international century has now stretched to nearly two years.
As for the game, rain interruptions further disrupted Pakistan's innings, which ended at 171/7 in 37 overs. Hasan Nawaz scored a brisk 36 not out off 30 balls, including three sixes, while Hussain Talat added 31 off 32 balls. Seales was the standout bowler for the West Indies, taking 3-23 in seven overs.
Chasing a revised target of 181 in 35 overs under the DLS method, the West Indies slipped from 101/3 to 111/5 after losing Sherfane Rutherford for a 33-ball 45. However, Roston Chase (49* off 47) and Justin Greaves (26* off 31) steadied the innings, guiding the West Indies to a five-wicket win with 10 balls to spare. The victory leveled the series 1-1, setting up a decider in the third ODI.
Pakistan beat West Indies in the first one-day international on Friday, also by five wickets. The third and final match in the ODI series is scheduled for Tuesday at the same stadium. Pakistan won the preceding Twenty20 series 2-1 played in Florida.

‘Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte': Harbhajan Singh asks India to boycott Pakistan game at Asia Cup
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who is also an Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, has urged the Indian cricket team to boycott the game against Pakistan at the upcoming Asia Cup tournament in the UAE. Harbhajan was part of the India Champions team which refused to play the Pakistan Champions side, including in the semi-final, at the recent World Championship of Legends. India were the reigning champions after winning the inaugural WCL event, but with players like captain Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan and Harbhajan against the idea of India playing Pakistan, the India Champions outfit forfeited the semis, and let Pakistan walk into the final, where they eventually lost. The Indian team had also refused to play in a group stage game against their arch-rivals. 'They (the Indian team) need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home – their sacrifice is so immense for all of us. Compared to that, this is a very small thing, that we can't skip playing one cricket match. It's a very small matter,' Harbhajan was quoted as saying by The Times of India. 'Our government has the same stance, 'Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.' (blood and sweat cannot co-exist). It cannot be the case that there's fighting on the border, tensions between the two nations, and we go to play cricket. Until these big issues are resolved, cricket is a very small matter. The nation always comes first,' he added. He also added: 'Humare sarhad pe bhai khade hue hain, jo hume protect kar rahe hain, humare desh ko protect kar rahe hain — unke hausle dekho, wo kitna bada dil leke waha pe khade hue hain. Aur unke parivaar par kya beetati hai jab wo ghar wapas nahi aate. Aur hum cricket khelne chale jaate hain [At the border, our brothers are standing, protecting us and our country. Look at their courage, the big hearts with which they serve. Think about what their families go through when they don't return home. And here we are, playing cricket],' he said.
