Coventry cyclist Jake Stewart finishes Tour de France for first time
Stewart attributed his success in the sport (he got a World Tour race win at the Criterium du Dauphine) to his upbringing in the West Midlands."Cycling is a very inaccessible sport, it's becoming more and more expensive for less privileged families to be able to provide for their kids."Growing up in Coventry, it keeps you humble when you make it on the big stage."Parents Ester and Paul Stewart watched their son cross the finish line in Paris.
"He's got no ego, he just goes out there and he just wants to find his place in the peloton and be the best rider he can be," Mr Stewart said.

Arne Slot sends clear message on Liverpool's transfer spending
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot stated the club would not hesitate to sign players if opportunities arise, despite already spending close to £300 million this summer. The club has seen significant player turnover, with key departures including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, alongside several others. New signings include a club-record £116 million deal for Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Slot emphasised that spending is balanced by recouping money from player sales, viewing Wirtz as a long-term project for the club. Sixteen-year-old Rio Ngumoha has impressed in pre-season, scoring a solo goal and being considered a viable first-team option after his rapid rise through the youth ranks.

'Liverpool fans will give you all the time you need'
Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes the new recruits at Anfield will be given plenty of time to acclimatise to Merseyside, despite the weight that comes with playing for the Premier League champions. The Reds have brought in five signings so far this summer in Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Armin Pecsi."It's a different pressure to any other club," Heskey told BBC Radio Merseyside. "At the end of the day, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world. You can go anywhere and you'll see a Liverpool shirt so that tells a story in itself."One thing I will say is that Liverpool fans are a lot different to many clubs. They will give you all the time you need and more to be honest. They have always backed their players, they always get behind them as long as you work hard."We've got some fantastic young players coming in and I think they are used to playing under that pressure so I don't see that being a problem."Listen to the full chat on BBC Sounds

Muniz makes most of limited opportunities - so could he move?
Newcastle are the latest club linked with Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, who is also being linked with Leeds and Atalanta. The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a starting spot at Craven Cottage, often playing second fiddle to Raul Jimenez over the past two he has attracted attention from potential suitors by making the most of limited opportunities. The Brazilian opened his Premier League account in a 2-2 draw at Burnley in February 2024, the first of 17 top-flight goals in the space of 16 this time he averages a goal every 128 minutes, the sixth best record in the competition. The only players to post better figures are Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah – arguably the league's three best forwards – plus Jhon Duran and Richarlison, both of whom mainly profited as impact your club's page and sign up for news alertsMuniz has proved himself a clinical finisher over this period, outperforming his expected goals tally by 3.46, while also excelling in the air. Though hardly a giant at 6ft 1in, he has won an average of five aerial duels per 90 minutes since February 2024, the fourth best record of any players to appear regularly in the top have repeatedly targeted tall players this summer and Muniz's physicality could be a real asset to the newly promoted side. Winning a starting role at Newcastle or Atalanta may prove more challenging, but those clubs could offer the enticing prospect of Champions League Fulham have yet to sign an outfield player this summer and they may be reluctant to let Muniz move on without first having a replacement lined up.
