Emma Raducanu crashes out in straight sets in Montreal
Raducanu had won both of their previous meetings, but rarely looked like extending that run as she held her serve just once in either set.
Wimbledon finalist Anisimova came from 40-15 down to break Raducanu's serve in the second game of the match and, although the British number one broke back immediately, she was unable to fashion another break point in the contest.
Anisimova broke again to make it 3-1 and added a third break to wrap up the set.
Her dominance continued in the second set as Raducanu won just eight points on her own serve, avoiding the whitewash after losing the first five games before Anisimova served out for a place in the fourth round.
She will face 10th seed Elina Svitolina or Anna Kalinskaya in the last 16.
Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek needed little more than an hour to complete a 6-2 6-2 victory over Germany's Eva Lys, but Jessica Pegula's bid for a third straight Montreal title was ended by world number 386 Anastasija Sevastova.
The Latvian, a former world number 11 who has had lengthy spells out on maternity leave and with a torn ACL, beat the third seed 3-6 6-4 6-1.

Texas A&M senior Edge is using his All-SEC team snub as 'fuel to the fire' this season
Texas A&M's 2025 pass rush will more than likely be led by senior edge Cashius Howell, who returned for his final collegiate season after defensive linemen Nic Scourton, Shemar Turner and Shemar Stewart departed for the NFL, leaving the former Bowling Green standout as one of the best players on the roster. However, Howell, who recorded four sacks and seven pass deflections in a rotational role last season, has been snubbed by several preseason watch lists. After Wednesday's sixth and first padded preseason practice, Howell spoke to the media members in attendance, and was asked about one of the more significant preseason snubs after he was left off the the preseason All-SEC team, which included running back Le'Veon Moss (first team) offensive linemen Ar'maj Reed-Adams, Trey Zuhn III and Chase Bisontis named to the second team. At the same time, cornerback Will Lee III and linebacker Taurean York were named to the third team on defense. While York has certainly done enough on the field to garner first or second team honors, the fact that Howell wasn't even considered a third team defensive linemen was quite surprising, esepecially after finishing the year as the team's top rated pass rusher per Pro Football Focus. However, Howell is taking the high road, and, just like his low recruiting ranking, the Missouri native isn't worried about the national perception. 'You're talking to a guy who was once rated 2,000th best player in my class. I'm used to not getting picked and overlooked so it just adds fuel to the fire for me.' At 6'4" and over 250 pounds, coach Mike Elko taking over as the program's defensive play caller is good news for Howell, who will be in perfect postion to rush the passer and eliminate stretch runs, capitalizing on his impressive play at the end of the 2024 campaign. Story emerges of Sixers' Allen Iverson losing game of HORSE to rapper
Every basketball fan knows how prolific Allen Iverson was during his prime for the Philadelphia 76ers. The 6-foot guard from Georgetown was phenomenal with the ball in his hands, took home an MVP award, and lifted the Sixers to the finals in 2001. Overall, Iverson averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while being the smallest guy on the court more times than not. The man they called "The Answer" backed down from nobody and more often than not came out on top on the basketball court. However, even the greats take their losses. On the latest episode of The Wave's "7pm in Brooklyn", rapper Jermaine Dupri revealed that Iverson lost a game of HORSE against longtime rapper, Nelly: To his (Iverson's) defense, y'all be shooting the ball so high, and my ceiling ain't as high as the stadium. So unfortunately, a couple of times he shot the ball up it hit the Nelly was shooting like my gym was his gym. Iverson will never be able to live that down, but at the same time, losses do happen. One has to give credit to Nelly for coming out on top against one of the game's all-time greats. 'What an unbelievable playmaker': New Texas A&M WR praised ahead of fall camp
Texas A&M's 2025 passing offense is expected to make a significant jump compared to last season, mainly due to the offseason addition of NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion, who is considered one of the fastest and best route runners in the country. On Tuesday, during the Aggies' press conference to open fall camp, which officially begins on Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko and starting quarterback Marcel Reed heaped plenty of praise on the junior receiver, noting that Texas A&M's offense in on track to be much more consistent through the air, as Concepcion provides Reed a true No. 1 option. After junior Noah Thomas transferred to Georgia, landing Concepcion became a mandatory objective, knowing that Marcel Reed would become the full-time starter after Conner Weigman transferred to Houston. So far, so good, as Elko and Reed couldn't hold back their excitement regarding Concepcion's likely impact this season. "What an unbelievable playmaker" Elko stated. "He was a guy that we paid a lot of attention to when we played him, and he has absolutely lived up to it. … He's ready to go on and have a really, really big year for us." During Elko's two-year head coaching stint at Duke, he became well aware of Concepcion, who faced Elko's tough defense twice during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. One of the main reasons the North Carolina native chose Texas A&M was Marcel Reed's dual-threat ability, especially making plays out of structure, which Reed recounted during their first practice session together. "I remember that practice. I saw KC there and was like, 'Yeah, I got to get this guy.' There was one period where I threw three or four balls that were at least 25 or 30 yards downfield." "KC has done a tremendous job this spring, this summer. He's a tremendously hard worker. … He'll give 110 percent every time. He has really strong hands." This not only provides more context of what Concepcion brings to the offense, but confirms that the future NFL draft selection is already putting the work in to help take Texas A&M's passing game to the next level this fall.
