Syria stability: US, France, Syria unveil joint roadmap
Syria, France, and the United States announced on Friday a joint roadmap to stabilize Syria following a high-level trilateral meeting held in Paris.
The meeting brought together Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, and US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack.
According to a joint statement, the three parties agreed on the urgent need to engage in substantive efforts to advance the political transition process in Syria, 'in a way that ensures the country's unity, stability, and full sovereignty.'
Emphasizing a shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and enhancing the capacity of Syria's official institutions to respond to current security challenges, the statement expressed support for the Syrian government in leading the transition process, 'in line with national interests and efforts to strengthen social cohesion, particularly in areas where the social fabric is fragile, such as northeastern Syria and Suwayda province.'
The statement also confirmed an agreement to hold a round of consultations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Paris 'as soon as possible,' aimed at fully implementing the provisions of the March 10 agreement.
The three countries further expressed full support for accountability efforts targeting perpetrators of violence and violations, welcoming 'transparent reports issued by independent bodies, particularly the latest report by the National Independent Committee tasked with investigating the events in Syria's coastal region.'
Stressing the importance of 'neighboring countries refraining from posing any threat to Syria's stability,' the statement vowed Syria's commitment to 'not undermining the security of its neighbors,' to maintain regional stability and balance.

Iraq, Saudi Arabia ink sweeping anti-drug pact

In a separate case, Iraq's Interior Ministry seized around 1.1 tons of Captagon pills smuggled from Syria. Iraqi officials confirmed that the operation was carried out with support from Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Narcotics Control, which provided intelligence indicating the route through Syria and Turkiye.

Iraq: Major ISIS figure arrested
Shafaq News – Nineveh Abu Salem al-Iraqi, a senior ISIS figure, was arrested in Nineveh province during an intelligence-led operation by Iraq's National Security Service, security sources told Shafaq News on Wednesday. The arrest took place in the Qatanbiyah area of Sinjar, 'after al-Iraqi was lured back into the country through a fabricated job offer arranged by the agency using one of his former acquaintances,' the sources said, adding that he had been in hiding for over a decade, using forged identities to evade capture. Preliminary investigations revealed his direct involvement in the killing of an Iraqi soldier during ISIS's large-scale offensive across the country in 2014. Meanwhile, the US-led International Coalition praised the operation in a statement, calling it a new success in intelligence and security coordination between Iraqi forces and international partners, 'as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate remaining ISIS elements.'

Israeli airstrikes pound southern Lebanon
Shafaq News – Beirut Israeli warplanes launched a wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Wednesday, injuring several civilians, according to Lebanese media. The National News Agency reported that the strikes targeted a vehicle and equipment depot in Deir Seryan, in the Marjayoun district, while others hit the town of Zawtar in neighboring Nabatieh. Additional raids reportedly struck the outskirts of Ansar, also in Nabatieh, as well as areas in Mahmoudiyah, the Barbij outskirts of Jbaa, and the vicinity of Tuffahata.
