IIT Delhi New Courses: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) continues to remain one of the most sought-after institutions in India for higher education and advanced research. In the latest QS World University Rankings 2025, IIT Delhi made a jump of 27 ranks, securing the 123rd global position and emerging as the top-ranked institute in India.
While IIT Delhi is traditionally known for its flagship BTech and MTech programmes, it has recently expanded its academic portfolio to include diverse short-term, certificate, diploma and interdisciplinary undergraduate programmes. These new courses cater to emerging industry needs and offer flexibility in learning. List of new courses announced by IIT Delhi for 2025
Here's a list of newly introduced courses by IIT Delhi from November 2024 to June 2025, for which admissions were open or ongoing until January 2025.
BTech in Design
This is a degree course with a duration of 4 years.
The BTech in Design combines creativity with technology and introduces students to industrial, communication and interaction design. It is offered by the newly formed Department of Design at IIT Delhi.
Eligibility: Admission through UCEED, not JEE Advanced.
Course Fee: As per regular BTech fee structure of IIT Delhi.
BS in Chemistry
This is a 4-year degree course under the Department of Chemistry.
The BS in Chemistry focuses on foundational and advanced chemical sciences, preparing students for careers in research, pharmaceuticals, and allied sectors.
Eligibility: JEE Advanced 2025 qualification required.
Certificate in Finance for Non-Finance Professionals
This is a certificate course with a 6-month duration.
The course aims to impart financial literacy and management skills to professionals from non-finance backgrounds. It is being offered through the Continuing Education Programme (CEP).
Eligibility: Open to graduates and working professionals in non-finance domains.

Certificate in Supply Chain Management
This is a certificate course with a 6-month duration.
This programme is designed to provide practical understanding and strategic insights into modern supply chain systems, logistics, and operations.

Certificate in Semiconductor Technology and Manufacturing
This is a certificate course with a 6-month duration.
It focuses on the growing field of semiconductor fabrication, microelectronics, and VLSI design—aligned with India's chip-making ambitions.
Eligibility: Suitable for engineers, science graduates, and early-career professionals in electronics.
Course Fee: Rs 1,50,000
MTech and PhD Programmes – IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi
These are postgraduate degree programmes, with durations of 2 years for MTech and variable for PhD.
These programmes are part of IIT Delhi's new international campus at Abu Dhabi and focus on sustainable technologies, energy, and data science.
Eligibility: Bachelor's/Master's degrees with GATE or equivalent qualifications.
Interdisciplinary courses announced for upcoming batches
Multiple interdisciplinary UG and PG-level course options have been introduced with flexible curricula under the 2025–26 academic year reforms. These include modules in AI, healthcare technology, humanities integration, and skill-based minors, offering students the ability to chart personalised academic paths.

Bathinda: Two students from underprivileged rural families in Punjab have cracked one of India's most competitive entrance examinations, securing spots at top engineering colleges through a corporate-backed free coaching programme. Arjanveer Singh, the son of a labourer from Sarainaga village in Muktsar district, has secured admission to IIT Kharagpur in mining engineering. Prabhjot Kaur, who worked in Bathinda's paddy fields to fund her studies, cleared JEE Advanced and is now in counselling for a top engineering seat. Both students were supported by the HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) and Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) under the National Super 100 Programme — a CSR initiative providing 11 months of free residential coaching in Delhi for meritorious students from low-income families. Prabhjot, who scored 93% in Class XII, aspired to become a pilot but nearly abandoned her dream due to financial hardship. "Super 100 gave me hope. They paid for everything — coaching, accommodation, and food. I cleared JEE Mains and then Advanced. Now I hope to enter aviation engineering," she said. State ropes in two IITs for audit of long bridges
1 2 3 4 Patna: The road construction department will assess the health of all bridges across the state to determine their structural condition and plan maintenance accordingly. The initiative, under the newly approved bridge maintenance policy, includes the development of a comprehensive bridge health index (BHI) and the placement of QR codes at bridge sites for public access to structural data. The department will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two IITs to conduct third-party audits of bridges longer than 250 metres. The audits aim to identify vulnerabilities using modern technologies and prevent accidents or disruptions due to bridge damage, which often leads to economic and human losses. Speaking to TOI over the phone, road construction minister Nitin Nabin said all bridges would be subject to regular inspection and maintenance. "Data will be collected using advanced tools such as visual inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), sensors and drone cameras. Each bridge will be assessed for its BHI and maintenance priority index (MPI) and a health card will be prepared," he said. According to Nabin, the department has built 3,968 bridges over the past 18 years, including 532 major bridges, mega bridges and flyovers. He also said QR codes would be installed on signboards near bridges to allow public access to their maintenance history. "Anyone can scan the QR code and get details about the bridge's upkeep," Nabin said. The department will engage IIT Delhi and IIT Patna for auditing bridges over 250 metres. An MoU is set to be signed next week. IIT Delhi will assess 40 bridges in north Bihar while IIT Patna will audit 45 bridges in south Bihar. Both institutions will also prepare cost estimates for necessary repair work, which will be executed by Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited under the Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy, 2025.

Engineering (Government) Regaining the tech edge
IIT Bombay reclaims its No. 1 spot with renewed focus on research, bold teaching shifts, and a campus revamp in full swing No. 1: IIT BOMBAY In a major shake-up at the top of the rankings, IIT Bombay has reclaimed the No. 1 position among government engineering colleges, overtaking IIT Delhi after a seven-year gap. This achievement underscores its growing edge in academics, research and campus development. With an intake of 1,128 students in undergraduate courses for 2025-26, and 750-plus full-time faculty members—including the highest number of women faculty (125) among all IITs—IIT Bombay continues to set national benchmarks. 'Having more female faculty not only brings greater representation,' says Shireesh B. Kedare, the institute's director, 'but also offers students inspiring role models.' A key priority now is a shift from traditional teaching to learning-centric pedagogy. From this summer, several courses across departments will adopt activity-based formats and problem-solving modules. 'Talking is not teaching—we want to focus on learning,' explains Kedare. In a first-year design course, for example, students access study material put online by the faculty in advance and use classroom time for discussion and assignments. Research and innovation remain core to the institute's mission. Projects span drone technology, CAR-T cancer therapy, 5G, AI tools and quantum sensing. IIT Bombay has a 99 per cent patent success rate in the past three years, with patents in solar cells, robotics, agri-sensors etc.—many of which have been licensed to industry. ROBUST COLLABS Consultancy and government collaboration are also robust. The institute has advised on infrastructure projects like Mumbai's Gokhale Bridge and signed MoUs with the Maharashtra government to align research with state priorities. On campus, IIT Bombay is undergoing a Rs 2,500-crore infrastructure overhaul, with the plan to add 24 new buildings by 2029. Expansion of its SINE incubator and research park is fostering entrepreneurship with new co-working spaces and mentorship hubs. For Shirish Deodhar, a serial tech entrepreneur from the class of 1980, the transformation is phenomenal. 'I am hopeful,' he says, 'that IIT Bombay will take its rightful place among the world's top universities.'
