'Endless H-1B stamping cycles': Reddit user wants to move to India after 15 years

Time of India2 days ago

A Reddit user who spent 15 years in the US shared the pitfalls of being an H-1B visa holder.
While US tech workers are raging against H-1B visa holders for stealing their jobs, a Reddit post of a H-1B visa holder has grabbed the attention as the person sought advice on moving back to India -- after 15 years.
The person came to the US as a student and then started working but now after 15 years, the user feels tired of restrictions. The restrictions that come being an H-1B visa holder. "Can't go anywhere, can't start my business," the Reddit post read.
"The title and I want to work as a Product Manager. Do you think there will be problem in getting jobs in India? Backstory- I 37F, came to the US as a student in 2010, right after engineering.
Started working in 2012 and ever since then I have been employed as a technology consultant. Now I am tired of the restrictions. Endless H1B stamping cycles. Can't go anywhere, can't start my own businesses. I want to explore what India can offer but I also want to work as a Product Manger.
Will there be problem in finding jobs and starting my own small business?" the post said.
A Reddit user expressed desire to move back to India after spending 15 years in the US.
The comment section was mostly welcoming as people shared their experience of moving back to India almost for the same reason.
"I came back a few months ago after 10 years, for similar reasons as yours. Trying to start my own business. I miss many things about US and dislike many things about here, but being able to explore business ideas of my own, and not having to worry about the visa bs far outweighs the negatives. So far anyways," one wrote.
"My dad's friend did this and he is incredibly happy with his decision. He not only does well but every so often will pick up contract jobs that helps build investment money for his true passion," another reply said.
H-1B has become a contentious issue with MAGA activists wanting the Donald Trump administration to completely shut the program in favor of American workers. The administration has taken crucial steps to arrest the inflow of international students but has not made a stand on H-1B. This visa program majoly contributes to the Silicon Valley as tech companies hire from foreign countries to save money.

Reddit sues Anthropic for using user content to train AI without consent

Social media platform Reddit has filed a lawsuit against artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic, alleging that it illegally scraped user-generated content to train its chatbot, Claude. The suit was filed on Wednesday in the California Superior Court in San Francisco. Reddit claims Anthropic used automated tools to extract posts and comments from its platform despite explicit instructions not to do so. It says the content was then used to train Claude without proper user consent or licences. Ben Lee, Reddit's chief legal officer, criticised the alleged data practices, stating, 'AI companies should not be allowed to scrape information and content from people without clear limitations on how they can use that data.' He said Reddit is committed to protecting its user community, which generates one of the internet's largest bodies of discussion content. Legal partnerships cited as contrast Reddit, which went public last year, pointed to its existing licensing agreements with companies like OpenAI and Google as examples of lawful collaboration. These partnerships, the company said, include mechanisms to remove content, filter spam, and protect users. 'These partnerships allow us to enforce meaningful safeguards for our users,' said Lee, underscoring the contrast with what Reddit describes as Anthropic's unlicensed use of its data. Anthropic rejects charges, prepares defence Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and backed by Amazon, denied the allegations. 'We disagree with Reddit's claims and will defend ourselves vigorously,' the company said in a brief statement. Focus on breach of contract, not copyright While many AI-related lawsuits centre on copyright violations, Reddit's case focuses on breach of contract and unfair business practices. It argues that Anthropic violated Reddit's terms of service by accessing data without authorisation. The filing cites a 2021 research paper co-authored by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, which named Reddit as a valuable training resource. Subreddits on gardening, history, and personal advice were specifically mentioned for teaching AI how humans communicate. Anthropic has previously maintained its use of public data is legal. In a 2023 letter to the US Copyright Office, the company stated that its training involves statistical analysis rather than content replication.

Citadel's Ken Griffin warns of Trump tariffs 'taking a toll' on US economy: Here's what the billionaire said

Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, one of Wall Street's most prominent Republicans, expressed frustration about President Donald Trump's 'anti-growth' tariff agenda and its impact on U.S. economic growth at Thursday's 2025 Forbes Iconoclast Summit. Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, a billionaire supporter of President Donald Trump and a megadonor to Republican candidates, had some unusually harsh words for the president about his trade war: It's hurting America's standing in the world and eroding the nation's brand. 'The United States was more than just a nation. It's a brand. It's a universal brand, whether it's our culture, our financial strength, our military strength …. America rose beyond just being a country,' Griffin said Wednesday at the Semafor World Economy Summit in Washington. 'It was like an aspiration for most the world. And we're eroding that brand right now.' Griffin, founder of one of the largest hedge funds in the world, said that traders are concerned about parking their investments in the United States — particularly US Treasury bonds — because Trump's tariffs have destroyed faith that America will remain a trusted and rational actor in global financial markets. 'Unfortunately, the last few months have been characterized by a set of policy decisions that have rendered a great deal of uncertainty, have called into question American exceptionalism,' Griffin, founder of the Citadel hedge fund and market maker Citadel Securities, told Forbes editor-at-large and Iconoclast founder Maneet Ahuja. Griffin said his firm cut in half its estimates of 2025 growth since Trump took office, explaining the tariffs have 'taken their toll already on our economy.' 'The administration's attempts to use tariffs comes at a dear price to the U.S. economy and comes at a dear price to the U.S. consumer,' added Griffin. 'Why are we aspiring to be the nation of the lowest cost and lowest paid workforce in the world? That makes no sense to me,' Griffin quipped about Trump's push to onshore manufacturing of low-cost goods. Griffin said that shows Trump and his advisers have their work cut out for them to right the perceived wrongs of the damaging trade war.

Trump-Musk breakup: There's a Trump tweet for every Musk move; a love-hate story in 280 characters

In the grand arena of American politics, few relationships have been as electrifying—or as perplexing—as that of Elon Musk and Donald Trump. Their bond, forged in the fires of Twitter (now X), has been a whirlwind of endorsements, criticisms, and the occasional meme-worthy moment. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now But if there's one thing we've learned, it's that there's a Trump tweet for every Musk move—and vice versa. The reinstatement tango It all began in November 2022, when Elon Musk, in his infinite wisdom, decided that the world needed more Trump tweets. So, he conducted a poll on X, asking the masses if they wanted to reinstate the former president's account. The result? A narrow "yes" vote of 51.8%. Musk declared, "The people have spoken," and just like that, Trump's digital megaphone was back online . But the real kicker came when Trump returned to the platform with a post that could only be described as cinematic: his mugshot. The caption? "ELECTION INTERFERENCE! NEVER SURRENDER!" Musk, ever the enthusiast, responded with a succinct "Next-level" . Because nothing says "I'm in this for the long haul" like a mugshot and a retweet. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE): A match made in bureaucratic heaven Fast forward to late 2024. Trump, ever the innovator, announced the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), with none other than Elon Musk at the helm. The goal? To cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. Musk, ever the cost-cutter, was all in . However, as with all things Musk, the execution was... let's say, ambitious. Under his leadership, the department enacted sweeping layoffs, cut thousands of contracts, and slashed grants. The result? A fiscal policy that left many scratching their heads and wondering if Mars was looking more appealing by the day . The "Big, Beautiful Bill" fallout But the honeymoon didn't last. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In June 2025, Musk launched a full-throated campaign against Trump's signature spending bill, the "One Big Beautiful Bill." Describing it as a "disgusting abomination," Musk urged Americans to pressure lawmakers to reject it with the rallying cry "KILL the BILL" . Trump's response? Silence. Well, almost. He reposted a previous positive tweet from Musk on Truth Social and refrained from his usual combative retorts . Perhaps he was too busy planning his next rally—or maybe he was just giving Musk the space to shine in his own unique way. The meme that keeps on giving Through all the policy shifts, budget cuts, and political maneuvering, one thing has remained constant: the memes. Whether it's Musk's "Return of the King" post celebrating Trump's comeback or Trump's own cryptic tweets, the internet has been treated to a never-ending stream of content that blurs the line between politics and performance art . In the end, the relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump is a testament to the unpredictable nature of modern politics. It's a saga filled with unexpected alliances, dramatic reversals, and a plethora of tweets that keep us all guessing. So, the next time you find yourself scrolling through X, remember: there's a Trump tweet for every Musk move—and vice versa.
