Radhika Madan Backs Deepika Padukone In 8-Hour Shift Debate: 'Male Actors Are Given That Privilege'

News1827-07-2025
Radhika Madan demands equal working hours for female actors and calls out doubled standards in Bollywood.
Radhika Madan is adding her voice to the growing debate over working hours in Bollywood, especially for women. The actress behind Angrezi Medium, Pataakha, Shiddat, and Sarfira says there's a double standard when it comes to how long male and female actors are expected to work, in a chat with Hindustan Times. Ever since Deepika Padukone was ousted from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to her requests for an eight-hour workday, it has sparked a debate around work-life balance in Bollywood.
'I have worked for 12‑14 hours, but I have also seen work be achieved in eight hours for certain actors. Kaam utna hi hota hai, woh unn hours mein hi nikaal lete hain. Project ban bhi jaata hai, movie hit bhi ho jaati hai. I have seen how it works because people then are focused and prepped ki uss din yeh shot lena hai, sirf eight hours hain. If that would not have happened, I would have said maybe itne hours mein kaam nahi ho paata hai," the actress shared.
Radhika says, 'If women are speaking out for that balance, and demanding a similar thing, it's not new. If the reasons are understood by both the parties, and respect is there, it can be worked out. It is really weird when certain male actors are given that privilege and women are not."
Burnout is another concern Radhika addressed. She recalled juggling seven films in a single year: 'I have experienced it, a lot of times. A few years ago, I was working in seven projects in a single year. I went into depression, I was really drained and took baggage of all my characters. I had to seek help. Burnout is real, I just want equality in the industry and no special treatment given to certain male actors."
In one of her recent YouTube vlogs, Farah Khan visited Radhikka Madan and asked her about her first show. Farah said, 'You didn't have an 8-hour shift, I am guessing?", Radhikka replied, '56 hours non-stop or 48 hours non-stop." At this point, Farah hinted that even she does not support an 8-hour work shift and shared, 'Aise tapke hi toh sona banta hai (this is how gold is made)."
Celebs like Vikrant Massey, Rashmika Mandanna, and Anurag Basu have earlier weighed in on the subject.

Mohit Suri Called Uncle Mahesh Bhatt For Advice On Saiyaara: 'He Said Swear Words'

Mahesh Bhatt told Saiyaara director Mohit Suri to trust his instincts. Mohit Suri's latest film, Saiyaara, has become a sensation ever since its release last month. The film starred newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, who have also become massive stars due to the film's success. As Saiyaara continues its box office run, Mohit Suri joined CNN-News18 for a Town Hall where he discussed love, loss and of course, Saiyaara. During his session, he recalled how he called his uncle, Mahesh Bhatt, for advice when he was confused about a certain scene in the film. Mohit's mother, Heena, is Mahesh Bhatt's sister, making him the filmmaker's nephew. Mohit has often worked under Mahesh's guidance, and when he was faced with doubt during the shoot of Saiyaara, he reached out to his uncle and mentor. Referring to the scene in Saiyaara where Ahaan Panday's father gets violent with him, Mohit Suri said, while he was staging the scene with the actors, he felt it had become too dramatic. Mohit Suri said, 'At 7 in the morning the next day, I was going to shoot the scene. I sent a missed call to Bhatt saab. He was up at 4 in the morning, and he called me up. I said, 'I am feeling a little unsure, they're very nice people. I think I'm being a little too dramatic.' He has no idea about my script." 'All I've told him is the scene where the son gets violent with his father, he's an alcoholic. Bhatt saab just cut me off. He said a couple of swear words to me; that's him. I didn't realise that my profile picture was of my son's hand in my hand. He just said that the way you're holding your son's hand in a close-up, the kind of emotion you feel towards your son, no matter how, go shoot this scene, it's never going to have a wrong emotional connect," Mohit recalled. Mohit Suri said that Mahesh Bhatt mentioned, 'The son-father bond is too pure for you. How can the same person who has a DP like this even ask me this question? Go shoot it the way you want." Mohit Suri listened paid heed to this advice and it turned out to be one of the scenes that Aditya Chopra loved most. Meanwhile, Saiyaara has struck an emotional chord with audiences across the globe. The film's Indian box office collection has crossed Rs 300 crore, while the global total now stands above Rs 500 crore. Alongside Ahaan and Aneet, the ensemble cast includes Alam Khan, Sid Makkar, Shaan Groverr, Rajesh Kumar, and Varun Badola. Janhvi Kapoor In Masaba Gupta's Silver And Satin Look Is A Bride Who Breaks The Rules

Last Updated: As the Masaba bride for House Of Masaba's latest bridal collection, Janhvi Kapoor stunned in an unconventional lehenga set that came with a strapless blouse and dhoti skirt. Janhvi Kapoor continues to prove she's in a league of her own when it comes to style. After her dazzling ethnic looks for Param Sundari promotions, the actress has now stepped into bridal couture for ace designer Masaba Gupta by bringing a mix of drama, heritage, and modern flair to the runway of imagination. Masaba Gupta's House of Masaba's latest collection celebrates 'the bride who knows who she is and chooses how she shows up", and Janhvi Kapoor is its perfect muse. She embodies the many moods of the modern bride: coy, brave, shy, rebellious – often all in one frame. Decoding Janhvi Kapoor's Look View this post on Instagram A post shared by House of Masaba (@houseofmasaba) Janhvi traded the conventional lehenga for an unexpected silhouette. The Chandni set included a strapless, structured blouse with curved edges, crafted in shimmering silver and drenched in sequins that caught the light with every movement. Instead of the traditional skirt, Masaba styled her in satin-gold dhotis, mermaid-shaped and detailed with central pleats for a regal, fluid finish. The pairing balanced old-world grandeur with contemporary confidence – a visual metaphor for the modern bride herself. Janhvi's bridal accessories were statement pieces in their own right. Gold armlets with silver detailing framed her upper arms, the embroidered designs cascading into tassels of beads and stones. Her wrists were stacked with chunky bangles and delicate floral bracelets, blurring the line between jewellery and art. A unique, ornate headpiece: part maang tikka, part crown, added an unapologetic dose of drama, anchoring the look firmly in bridal tradition while refusing to play it safe. For the makeup, Janhvi went with a flawless matte base that let her natural complexion shine, with sculpted contour, flushed cheeks, and a touch of highlighter for a lit-from-within glow. Her maroon lips became the look's statement feature, while metallic eyeshadow, generous mascara, and pin-straight, open hair tied the ensemble together. The result was bridal glam that was both timeless and fresh. Janhvi Kapoor, in Masaba Gupta's hands, isn't just wearing couture – she's telling a story. This is bridal fashion that speaks to individuality, defies predictability, and still honours tradition. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mohit Suri Reveals How Saiyaara Title Track Was Born: 'These Boys From Kashmir…'

Last Updated: Mohit Suri revealed at CNN-News18's Mumbai Townhall that he recorded all songs for Saiyaara before shooting. He also spoke about Saiyaara title track's creation. Mohit Suri's Saiyaara wasn't just built on a script – it was first built on music. Suri, at CNN-News18's Mumbai Townhall event, revealed that he recorded all the songs for the film before even beginning to shoot. He also spoke about how the Saiyaara title track was conceived, which ultimately became a chartbuster. The filmmaker, who is known for working with multiple music directors at the same time, detailed his process. 'It's a nightmare to work with multiple music directors," Mohit Suri playfully said. 'When I started off, I was 22 when I was directing my first film. I had long hair, etc., and people didn't take me seriously. I was in Krish Kapoor mode. Most people didn't want to work with me at that time – the senior ones. They didn't think I knew my job. Out of inability, I went out and found guys like Mithoon, who was 19 back then, and all these people, and got a musicians' ensemble together." That 'inability" quickly became his competitive edge. The Aashiqui 2 director said, 'What was good was that I was someone who went out and hung out in clubs and coffee shops, etc., and that's how I know a DJ Suketu, who made Bin Tere Sanam. I had the edge because I was connected, and I put it all together, and it worked out. Then it also worked for the second film. What started as a limitation became my strength. I am not against working with one music director, but my greed or need for good music – if one person can give it to me, I am happy. But I love that process where I am sitting and jamming together." Mohit Suri on the making of Saiyaara title track For Saiyaara, the title track has its own serendipitous backstory. 'There are these boys from Kashmir, who I have one song called Ishq in the Indie circuit. I'm like, call this boy down, he brings along a partner. They are in Mumbai for 14 days to try their luck. The last time Arslan was working on the Atal Setu between Leh-Ladakh and Kashmir as a civil engineer – he's a civil engineer. He comes and meets Tanishk Bagchi from Bengal. He makes them meet me. I make them meet Irshad Kamil, who is from Punjab. We jam together and make something in the air, called the Saiyaara title track. It's the most amazing process." Mohit Suri-helmed Saiyaara was backed by YRF. It starred debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in lead roles. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
