Superman wasn't always so squeaky clean – in early comics he was a radical vigilante
Created by the sons of Jewish immigrants, writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman is an example of youthful male wish fulfilment: an all-powerful figure dressed like a circus strong man, who uses brawn to right wrongs. However, Siegel and Shuster's initial version of the character was a more flawed character.
Appearing in a 1933 fanzine, Siegel's prose story The Reign of the Superman with accompanying illustrations by Shuster, featured a reckless scientist whose hubris is punished when he creates the telepathic 'super man' by experimenting on a drifter plucked from the poverty lines. Echoing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the creator is dispatched by his creation.
Siegel and Shuster had some early success selling stories to National Allied Publications, the forerunner of DC Comics. At this time, comic books were mainly collections of newspaper cartoons – the 'funnies' – pasted together to create more portable anthologies. They featured the escapades of characters like Popeye and Little Orphan Annie.
Inspired by the heroic tales of derring do of pulp fiction adventurers such as Johnston McCulley's Zorro (1919) and Philip Wylie's 1930 science fiction novel Gladiator, Siegel and Shuster further developed their Superman character. They transformed him into a hero and added the now familiar cape and 'S' logo.

Fortnite leak reveals potential One Punch Man collaboration
Image via Madman Entertainment. With the arrival of Chapter 6 Season 3 dubbed 'Super' in Fortnite, the game has already brought a lot of superhero elements, as this is the actual theme of the current season. Recently we saw Fortnite collaborating with Superman, on the occasion of the latest movie by James Gunn. Now following the footsteps of the Superhero theme of this season, Fortnite is yet again potentially going to collaborate with another superhero, but this time, from the Anime universe. No price for guessing, it could be our very own Saitama from One Punch Man. Fortnite X One Punch Man collaboration new details gets leaked The Fortnite X One Punch Man collaboration has been the talk of the town for some time now, and now a brand new leak has stirred the speculation about the potential collaboration even more. This exciting news comes from popular Fortnite leaker @Loolo_WRLD. This leaker has shared additional details about the upcoming collaboration where it has been claimed that Saitama will have 2 emotes in the game. The leaker also went into details about these emotes, as one of them will have the iconic Saitama 'OK' speech. Although, detail about the other one is still unknown. He also stated that there will be a Pickaxe as well, thanks to this upcoming collaboration. However, the disappointing part of this leak is that One Punch Man cosmetics aren't a part of the encrypted in-game files in the game of the recent v36.20 patch update. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! Techno Mag Learn More Undo That means it's highly unlikely fans will get a Saitama outfit in the upcoming collaboration. But a collaboration without its themed outfit of its central character sounds quite strange, so the outfit can be added anytime in the coming updates. Although, the in-game files of the recent update did contain the outfits of 3 of the 4 members of Fantastic Four. This suggests that after a successful DC collaboration, Fortnite is now gearing up for an ambitious MCU collaboration on the occasion of the highly anticipated movie, Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is going to be released on July 25, 2025 in theatres. After Superman's Box Office Success, James Gunn Unveils First Supergirl Poster
Last Updated: In the poster, Supergirl is casually seen sipping a drink and standing right next to the iconic logo of the character. James Gunn is giving fans a fresh, bold take on Supergirl, and it is far from anything expected. Following the release of David Corenswet-led Superman, the director released the first poster of Supergirl, and it is already turning heads. Towards the end of Superman, fans got a glimpse of the new superheroine. The scene shows a 'drunk" Supergirl at the Fortress of Solitude, trying to get her dog, Krypto, back from Superman. Taking to his social media account on Wednesday, July 16, the renowned director dropped the first poster for Supergirl, which perfectly captures her rebellious spirit. In it, Supergirl is casually seen sipping on some drink, standing right next to the iconic logo of the characters, which says 'Look Out," totally opposite to Superman's 'Look Up" tagline. The film will star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. In a conversation with ScreenRant, James Gunn revealed that the new version of Supergirl is going to be a complete 'mess." He discussed how the DCU's version of Supergirl differs significantly from Superman, and also highlighted how their backgrounds shape their stories. When asked if the viewers will meet the 'messy" version of Supergirl in the upcoming film, the director said, 'Yeah, that's her. She's a mess. She's a total mess." He added, 'I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background. He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents who loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different from that. And she's ended up different from her cousin." Meanwhile, in an interview with ComicBook, the DC co-head discussed Milly Alcock's version of Supergirl, noting how this version of the superheroine differs from others. Instead of presenting her as the cheerful cousin of Superman on Earth, they have taken a different approach by telling her emotional backstory, where she fights her own battles. He said, '(Flashbacks to Krypton are) always a possibility. But I think those things are really integral to the two characters and the differences between them, and that Clark really does have sort of this really happy childhood." The Superman director continued, 'And Supergirl, especially the DCU Supergirl, she's kind of a mess. I mean, she's, she's had real issues growing up. And it is based on the comic where she watched person after person after person dying in front of her as her piece of the planet disintegrated." Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl will be based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. Besides Milly, it will also feature Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The film is scheduled for release in theatres in June 2026. After Superman kiss controversy, CBFC censors Ahaan Panday-starrer Saiyaara's intimate scenes; netizens demand Sandeep Reddy Vanga's intervention
Ananya Panday's cousin Ahaan Panday is gearing up for his Bollywood debut opposite Aneet Padda in Mohit Suri's romantic musical drama Saiyaara. Before the film's theatrical release on July 18, it has received a U/A certificate but the Censor Board Of Film Certification has suggested several cuts, including the deletion of ten seconds of 'sensual, intimate, body exposure visuals,' as per a Bollywood Hungama report. This comes after Hollywood film Superman's kissing scene between actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan was removed by India's censor board. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC has asked the makers of Saiyaara to make a few cuts and changes in the movie. In four different scenes, 'objectionable' words were censored and replaced with more 'appropriate' ones. The authority also suggested them to delete and replace ten seconds of 'sensual, intimate, body exposure visuals'. The runtime of the film is 156.50 minutes, i.e 2 hours, 36 minutes and 50 seconds. However, netizens are disappointed with CBFC's cuts in Saiyaara. Social media users expressed their displeasure with the censorship instructions in the comments section on Reddit, with many demanding an intervention by filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga to fight CBFC. Check out the post: Sanskari Censor Board got no chill byu/KramerDwight inBollyBlindsNGossip A screenshot of the news was shared on Reddit, with several users slamming CBFC's decision. 'Sanskari censor board got no chill,' a comment read. While some wanted Vanga to step in for an intervention, others joked about the Censor Board approving of Akshay Kumar starrer Housefull 5's crass jokes and kissing scenes. 'The same CBFC gave Housefull 5 a U/A certificate. Hypocrisy,' a person wrote. 'Vanga for CBFC chairman. Please upvote,' another user commented. 'We will witness Sandeep Reddy Vanga vs Censor Board soon,' a comment read. Talking about Saiyaara, the film has been helmed by Mohit Suri and presented by Yash Raj Films. The story is about a romantic musical story, marking the debut collaboration between YRF and Suri. The film features Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in lead roles. The music has been composed by Mithoon, Sachet-Parampara, Rishabh Kant, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami. Set to hit the big screen tomorrow, 18th July, the movie's advance booking already looks promising.
