Patchy Mix oozing confidence before UFC debut vs. Mario Bautista: 'I will f*ck him up'
Patchy Mix is ready to prove he is UFC championship material.
Mix (20-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his octagon debut against ranked 135-pounder Mario Bautista (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) on Saturday's UFC 316 main card (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
The former Bellator champion has long declared himself the No. 1 bantamweight in the world, and he will get the opportunity to prove it. He watched footage of Bautista fighting Jay Perrin in February 2022 and liked what he saw.
"Right here, where he rests, he won't be able to rest against me," Mix said on "UFC Embedded." "If that kid (Perrin) can push him up against the fence, I think I can. I'm a f*cking three-time world champion, this guy is a journeyman fighter. I will f*ck him up, bro. I'm going to f*ck him up. Look at his holes. I'll submit him, and I'll submit whoever is teaching him jiu-jitsu. I'll submit the whole f*cking crew."
Mix is ready to live up to his full potential.
"Two years ago, that was our first world title," Mix said when pointing at his Bellator belt. "We knocked the dude (Stots) out in a minute, and I'm a submission guy. So, it was my first knockout, and that's how I won my million dollars and my first world title. Since then, we've won two more belts, and now we're over here, so we're coming for this belt. We really want to win that UFC strap, bring a new dynamic to the division."

Nick Saban dismisses Greg McElroy's claim he could return to coaching

Whether it was because of the content of his message or the timing of it — in the doldrums of July — Greg McElroy sent shockwaves through the college football world last month when he suggested that his former coach at Alabama, Nick Saban, hadn't necessarily roamed a sideline for the final time. It was news to Saban — to put it mildly. The legendary former Crimson Tide coach, who is entering his second season as a college football analyst for ESPN, dismissed McElroy's claim at the Nick Saban Legacy Awards in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, Aug, 18 while poking fun at the quarterback of his 2009 BCS national championship team. REQUIRED READING: College football gifts: Nick Saban gets new hat, Lincoln Riley finds escape 'I don't know where that came from,' the 73-year-old Saban said. 'Greg McElroy played quarterback for us and if he had done something like that when he was a player, he would have gotten his (expletive) kicked.' McElroy — who also works as an ESPN college football analyst, technically making him Saban's colleague — said on his radio show on WJOX in Birmingham in July that he heard from a source 'very much in the know' that Saban wasn't done coaching. He added that he wouldn't have mentioned it publicly if it 'wasn't someone notable' who made the comment to him. In January 2024, about two weeks after Alabama lost to eventual national champion Michigan in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff, Saban retired after 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide. Saban won seven national championships as a head coach, six of which came at Alabama. As he prepares for another season as a panelist on ESPN's 'College GameDay,' Saban said he and his wife, Terry, 'don't have any regrets' about the decision to step away. "I have been part of a team since I was 9 years old playing little league baseball. I just had a tremendous fear that I would miss it,' Saban said. 'That part, I miss. But the working 14 hours per day, the recruiting, the changes that were going through in college football, the challenges that that presented was a little much at my age and the last year I coached."

Michal Oleksiejczuk wants Marvin Vettori afer UFC 319 win: 'I can break this guy'

CHICAGO – Michal Oleksiejczuk feels like a different fighter now that he's training with the Fighting Nerds in Brazil, and thus far, the proof is in the results. Poland's Oleksiejczuk (21-9 MMA, 9-7 UFC) spent his last two training camps with one of the hottest teams in the game today, and is thrilled with his decision – especially after recording his second straight first-round finish by stopping Gerald Meerschaert in the United Center at UFC 319. "This was my second time in Brazil and my skills, my cage game, my ground game – all is better," Oleksiejczuk told reporters during a post-fight news conference. "I am happy my corner gave me great energy." Things were not in a good place for Oleksiejczuk just a year ago. After ending his 2023 campaign with a first-round finish of Chidi Njokuani, things took a nose-dive in 2024. Oleksiejczuk lost all three of his fights, two of which were first-round stoppages. Since switching to the Fighting Nerds, he finished Sedriques Dumas in the first round at UFC 314, and followed it up with the opening-round TKO of Meerschaert. Now, the Polish middleweight has his eyes on a ranked opponent. "I think that my skill is ready for top 15 now," Oleksiejczuk said. "I want fight with Marvin Vettori. I think this is very good fight because Marvin is from Europe, I am from Europe, Poland, and I am ready. I think a lot of people want this fight." Vettori currently holds the No. 13 spot in the UFC's official 185-pound rankings. He's in a similar place to Oleksiejczuk last year, having lost three straight fights. If and when they meet, Oleksiejczuk believes he can be the first fighter to stop the ultra-durable Italian. "I know Marvin is very tough fighter, but I think that this is my time," Oleksiejczuk said. "I can break this guy, I am sure."
