A Big Bold Beautiful Journey Release Date Delayed for Margot Robbie Romance Drama
has shifted its release date as Sony Pictures updates its theatrical schedule. Initially slated for spring, the film will now debut in the fall. The move positions it alongside Universal's Him and 20th Century Studios' Ella McCay. Meanwhile, the spring release calendar sees fewer major studio-wide openings, reshaping the box office landscape.
Sony Pictures has rescheduled the release of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from May 9, 2025, to September 19, 2025.
Kogonada directs A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, featuring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. Sony previously scheduled the film to compete against Thunderbolts* in its second weekend but has now moved its release to open alongside Universal's Him and 20th Century Studios' Ella McCay. The supporting cast features Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.
The film is described as 'an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.' It is written by Seth Reiss, known for The Menu, and produced by Imperative Entertainment's Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin, along with Reiss and Youree Henley. Sony Pictures acquired the film in February 2024 at the European Film Market in Berlin.
The move leaves May 9 without a major studio-wide release. The only scheduled films for that date include IFC's Clown in a Cornfield, Vertical Entertainment's Fight or Flight, and Briarcliff Entertainment's Juliet and Romeo. Sources indicate Sony adjusted the release date to position the film in a marketplace where a female-led movie could stand out, as per Variety.
Kogonada directed After Yang before reuniting with Farrell for this project. Robbie last appeared in Asteroid City and Barbie in 2023. Farrell featured in HBO's The Penguin and The Banshees of Inisherin. 30West financed A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and Sony Pictures is handling global distribution.

Dakota Johnson says ‘Madame Web' tanking wasn't her fault: ‘Who cares?'
Dakota Johnson has freed herself from the ' Madame Web ' debacle. The actress says the tanking of the 2024 superhero movie she starred in 'wasn't my fault,' and put the blame on the decision-makers at Sony Pictures. 'There's this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don't have a creative bone in their body,' Johnson told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Wednesday, June 4. 'It's really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with 'Madame Web,' it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point.' ' Madame Web,' released in February 2024, starred Johnson as the Marvel Comics title character, an offshoot of Sony's ' Spider-Man ' series. The movie cost $100 million to make, and took in just about that in the global box-office; typically a movie needs to gross about three times its budget to break even theatrically. The movie also got terrible reviews — it currently holds a dismal 11% positive rating on aggregate — and sparked some intense social media reactions. 'But that happens,' Johnson said. 'Bigger-budget movies fail all the time. I don't have a Band-Aid over it. There's no part of me that's like, 'Oh, I'll never do that again' to anything. I've done even tiny movies that didn't do well. Who cares?' But that's not the only news Johnson has made this week. Reports say her eight-year relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has ended; she had a near wardrobe malfunction on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' and, in perhaps the weirdest moment, confessed she once sent a gallon of gorilla poop to a friend's ex-boyfriend. The latter confession came on Vanity Fair magazine's famous lie detector test, posted Thursday, June 5. 'Yes, I did do that,' Johnson admitted. 'It's been quite a while, it's been some years. … I'm not a monster.' Johnson, 35, who was raised in San Francisco while her father, actor Don Johnson, was filming the TV series ' Nash Bridges ' in the city, is currently starring in 'Materialists.' The rom-com co-starring Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal and directed by Celine Song (' Past Lives ') opens in San Francisco theaters on Friday, June 13.

Disney Defends THUNDERBOLTS* Spoiler Reveal of THE NEW AVENGERS; Says Fans Actually Liked It — GeekTyrant
Marvel fans who hit theaters opening weekend for Thunderbolts* got the full payoff after months of speculation on what that sneaky little asterisk meant. It turns out, the team introduced in the movie is officially The New Avengers in the MCU, a reveal held back until the film's final scenes… only for Marvel to drop the twist in its marketing just a couple days later. As you know, that didn't sit well with a lot of fans. I saw so many complints about that. But, Disney believes that they made the right marketing move, and that fans actually liked it. Speaking with Empire, Ryan Stankevich, Disney's SVP of Marketing, addressed the controversy over the spoiler-heavy promotional materials that rolled out post-release: 'Discourse is a great part of the Marvel fan experience. For as many people who complained, we saw a large percentage say they thought it was really clever. Some people also complained we didn't do *The New Avengers with a 'z'! But we welcome healthy debate.' Yeah, I'd say the fans that already saw the movie where the ones that thought the marketing was clever because it didn't hurt their movie-going experience. The studio rebranded the movie as *The New Avengers on posters and promo assets shortly after Thunderbolts opened, a move that many saw as premature, especially considering Marvel's usual spoiler-free grace period on social channels. Fans who missed opening weekend understandably felt blindsided. In the film, the twist unfolds near the end after the Sentry situation spirals out of control, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine publicly spins her ragtag group of heroes, Yelena, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Bucky, Ghost, and Bob, into heroes by branding them the 'New Avengers.' It's a big PR move for her. The post-credits scene then reveals Sam Wilson is putting together his own real Avengers team… and he's not thrilled. A lot of Marvel fans hoping for a surprise in the theater got a Marvel-branded reminder… nothing's sacred when the marketing machine kicks in.

Keke Palmer & SZA – Sequel to One of Them Days Officially in the Works
Source: Sony Pictures / Sony Pictures It's official—Keke Palmer and SZA are set to reunite on screen as One of Them Days gets the green light for a sequel. After a blockbuster run in theaters and a major splash on Netflix, TriStar Pictures is bringing the crew back for round two. While plot details are still under wraps, fans can expect the return of the original creative team, including director Lawrence Lamont and writer Syreeta Singleton, who made waves with her script that started out under the title The Jungles . The first film—set in South L.A.—was a buddy comedy following besties Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) trying to avoid eviction after some wild financial mishaps collide with life-changing opportunities. Think Friday energy for a new generation. Backed by Issa Rae's Hoorae Media and Macro, the original film became a sleeper hit—raking in over $50 million globally and landing a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score. It also topped Netflix's trending list for weeks. The sequel is another win for the CoCre Lab at Sony, a development incubator aimed at uplifting underrepresented writers. Singleton, a former Insecure staff writer and showrunner of Rap Sh!t , was one of its early success stories. Her script was chosen out of hundreds and given time, space, and—most importantly—funding to grow into a full-fledged studio film. The original cast was stacked, featuring Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James, Katt Williams, Gabrielle Dennis, and more, bringing authentic and hilarious energy to the screen. And when SZA joined the project after Palmer signed on, the momentum was undeniable. Production for the first film kicked off in mid-2024 and was wrapped just in time for a 2025 release—unusually fast for a studio original comedy. Everyone involved knew they were doing something special. Now, TriStar is betting big on the sequel. With Keke and SZA back in the driver's seat, this next chapter promises even more laughs, chaos, and heart. Stay tuned—because it looks like it's about to be another one of them days.
