Felix's SoftPOS Payment Platform Achieves MPoC Certification

Cloud-based contactless payment platform certified as a Mobile Payments on Commercial off the Shelf (MPoC) software by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council
VANCOUVER, BC, June 2, 2025 /CNW/ - Felix Payment Systems Ltd. (Felix) today announced that its contactless cloud-based SoftPOS payment platform has achieved the Payment Card Industry's (PCI) Mobile Payments on Commercial off the Shelf (MPoC) certification. The MPoC credential is an important achievement for Felix. It represents a significant milestone in the company's journey to become a global leader in SoftPOS technologies.
Felix is a Vancouver-based financial technology company that specializes in cloud-based payment solutions. The company developed the world's first fully cloud-based contactless kernel platform that transforms any near field communication (NFC)-enabled device—such as smartphones, tablets, POS displays or kiosks—into a certified, secure payment terminal. This technology eliminates the need for traditional hardware like dongles or dedicated terminals. The setup enables merchants to accept payments via Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover with a simple tap.
Felix serves a diverse range of industries, including retail, hospitality, sports and entertainment, healthcare and transit with a particular focus on large-scale businesses. Felix offers an easily adaptable software development kit (SDK) that facilitates quick deployment and seamless integration across different platforms and devices.
"Becoming MPoC certified is a major step forward for Felix," said Andrew Cole, the company's CEO. "Our success in earning this certification is a tribute to our team's determination and commitment. Our group has worked diligently to achieve this global standard which supports our mission to deliver industry leading digital payment solutions to our customers."
The MPoC standard, developed and governed by the PCI Security Standards Council, is the most advanced and comprehensive guideline for contactless payments on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) devices. Felix adheres to MPoC's rigorous security and performance requirements. The company stands out in the payments industry as one of only a few global players certified as an isolated SDK software, which deploys and manages secure contactless transactions across a wide range of COTS devices.
MPoC certification requires that SoftPOS vendors adhere to a variety of features and standards, including:
Security of payment data
COTS device compliance
Security threat mitigation
Integrity of the payment process
Attestation and monitoring
Isolated software development kits (SDKs)
The CEO added, "In addition to offering a fully isolated cloud-based SDK, Felix also provides merchants with pre-certified connectivity to major acquirers, including Chase, FISERV, Elavon, TSYS, Heartland, and North American Bancard. This inherent feature provides the benefits and functionality of a gateway, allowing customers to maintain their existing banking relationships."

Wildfires force Hudbay Minerals to suspend work at Snow Lake mine in Manitoba

Hudbay Minerals Inc. says wildfires burning in northern Manitoba have forced it to suspend work at its Snow Lake mine. Last week, the Toronto-based company said it planned to maintain output at the gold, copper and zinc mine at reduced levels. But the town of Snow Lake was put under a precautionary early evacuation notice on Tuesday, so Hudbay has decided to temporarily wind down its operations there. It says only essential personnel will remain on site to help with emergency activities. The miner says its infrastructure and facilities in the Snow Lake and Flin Flon areas are at low risk of being damaged. It says it still expects to meet its annual targets for Snow Lake, given strong performance there so far this year. Story continues below advertisement 4:57 Brandon Firefighters helping fight Manitoba wildfires 'The safety of our employees, their families, our First Nations partners and the communities we serve remains our top priority. With the wildfires spreading, Hudbay has taken additional actions to support our employees, including $1 million in direct financial support and establishing a Community Relief Donations Fund,' said senior vice-president Rob Carter. It hasn't been actively mining in the area near the Manitoba-Saskatchewan boundary since 2022, but it still runs care and maintenance work and also has services there to support Snow Lake 200 kilometres to the east. Exploration activities have been suspended in both Flin Flon and Snow Lake. Create Account An anonymous bidder has paid $143,030 for the sweater that Darryl Sittler wore when he recorded 10 points in a Leafs victory against the Boston Bruins on Feb. 7, 1976. The sale was made via Los Angeles-based Grey Flannel Auctions. The starting bid in the online auction, which opened on May 12 and closed on June 1, was $10,000. A total of 29 bids were made. Nearly 50 years after the historic performance, Sittler's 10 points remain a National Hockey League record for one game. That night at Maple Leafs Gardens, the Leafs captain had six goals and four assists as the Leafs shelled Bruins goalie Dave Reece in an 11-4 Toronto win. Reece, who faced 40 shots that night, didn't play in an NHL game again. All 14 of his career games came during the 1975-76 season with the Bruins. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. The previous record for most points in an NHL game was eight, done by Maurice Richard of the Montreal Canadiens during the 1944-45 season. Since Sittler's extraordinary performance, 12 players have recorded eight points in a game, but no one has had nine. Most recently, Sam Gagner, with the Edmonton Oilers at the time, had eight points (four goals and four assists) on Feb. 2, 2012, in an 8-4 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux both posted two eight-point games during their legendary careers. A game-worn sweater belonging to Gretzky, meanwhile, during his tenure with the New York Rangers sold for $295,492 via Grey Flannel Auctions. The autographed sweater is rare: On April 7, 1998, in a game against the Montreal Canadiens, Gretzky wore the captain's 'C' as Rangers captain Brian Leetch was out of the lineup because he was sick. Gretzky, who retired following the next season, scored the 884th goal of his NHL career that night in a 3-2 Rangers loss. tkoshan@ X: @koshtorontosun Read More Toronto & GTA Crime Celebrity World Sunshine Girls
