The economic benefits of hosting shows by US pop star Lady Gaga would have to be weighed against the requirements for securing an exclusive Asian stop, observers in Hong Kong said on Monday after rival Singapore signed up the
singer for four dates in May following Taylor Swift's concerts last year.

The opening earlier this month of
Kai Tak Sports Park , with its main 50,000-seat stadium, could give the city more leverage in the future to secure high-profile, global events for fresh growth in tourism and spending, they said.
'How much would you have to offer for the benefits in return? The government would have to calculate. We don't have the data on hand,' Travel Industry Council (TIC) chairman Tommy Tam Kwong-shun said.
Lawmaker Doreen Kong Yuk-foon said the deal would have involved very complicated commercial negotiations and was not as straightforward as extending and accepting an invitation.

'In order to secure an Asia monopoly, they might have had to offer a lot, which is something we do not know, and what they announce will not be all of their details because they will have commercial secrets,' Kong said.

The deal removes Chinese export restrictions on rare-earths minerals and allows Chinese students access to US universities, but many specifics and detailed terms were absent, leaving investors cautious. China's blue-chip CSI300 Index fell 0.6 percent from a three-week high touched in the previous session. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index lost 0.7 percent to pull back from its highest level in nearly three months. The CSI Rare Earth Index slipped 0.8 percent from a seven-month high, and the semiconductor sector subindex slid more than 1 percent. File photo: Reuters Jack Grealish's future at Manchester City was plunged into further doubt after the England international was left out of Pep Guardiola's squad for the Club World Cup. Despite City naming just 27 players from a possible 35 for the tournament beginning in the United States on June 14, Grealish was omitted alongside former captain Kyle Walker. All four of the club's new signings this week – Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijani Reijnders and Marcus Bettinelli – are included. Ballon d'Or winner Rodri is also selected after making his comeback from a long-term knee injury just before the end of the Premier League season. Grealish, who remains City's record signing after a US$135 million move from Aston Villa in 2021, has fallen down the pecking order over the past two seasons. He made just seven Premier League starts in the 2024/25 campaign and was notably not summoned from the bench as City went down to a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final last month. The 29-year-old still has two years left to run on his City contract and his reported US$405,000 wages are a barrier to finding a potential suitor.
