Mushroom murderer Erin Patterson cops another major blow
Victorian Supreme Court Justice Michelle Quigley granted the confiscation application over Patterson's Leongatha property on July 23 following a closed court hearing.
A suppression over the restraining order was lifted at 5pm on Wednesday.
Patterson was on July 7 found guilty of murdering her former in-laws Don and Gail Patterson, 70, and Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson, 66.
She was also found guilty of the attempted murder of Heather's husband Ian Wilkinson.
The jury found she deliberately served the four people beef Wellingtons laced with death cap mushrooms at her Leongatha home on July 29, 2023.
Patterson, 50, pleaded not guilty, claiming during her 11-week trial in Morwell that she did not intentionally poison her lunch guests.
But 12 jurors returned the four guilty verdicts on July 7 after seven days of deliberations.
On July 16, the Victorian Director of Public Prosecutions made an application in the Supreme Court for the Leongatha property to be restrained under the confiscation act.
The order was granted following a closed court hearing before Justice Quigley on July 23.
A spokeswoman from the Office of Public Prosecutions confirmed the confiscation application was to prevent the property being sold or otherwise dealt with.
'This is to ensure that if any family members of Ms Patterson's victims apply for compensation or restitution, the property is available to satisfy any orders that are made by the court,' the OPP statement said.
Patterson's lawyers have been approached for comment, while her ex-husband Simon declined a request.
Patterson, who is facing the possibility of life behind bars, will return to court for a pre-sentence hearing later in 2025.
After her sentence is handed down, she will have 28 days to file an appeal.

He has been is due to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, August 6. A 50-year-old man, also from the city, also remains in custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Family pay tribute to ‘pure of heart' Saudi student who was stabbed in Cambridge
A student from Saudi Arabia who was stabbed to death while on a 10-week placement studying English in Cambridge was 'pure of heart' and 'passionate about others', his family said. Floral tributes have been left on the pavement outside an apartment block in the street. Cambridgeshire Police said on Monday that a 21-year-old man, Chas Corrigan, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. Officers had been called to Mill Park at 11.27pm on Friday following reports of violence. Mr Algasim was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.01am on Saturday despite the best efforts of paramedics, the force said. In a statement issued through police, his family said he was a 'young man brimming with enthusiasm, brimming with chivalry and courage'. It also said 'inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un', which is an Arabic phrase meaning 'to God we belong and to Him we return'. A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday, police said.

Teen stabbed to death in Bury is named - as three suspects remain in custody
A 19-year-old who was stabbed to death in Bury has been named by police. Mohammed Afzal, known to his loved ones as Isa, was attacked just before 9pm on Friday in a car park on Market Street. He suffered several stab wounds and died later from his injuries. Three 19-year-old men were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of murder, Greater Manchester Police said. An investigation is ongoing and the suspects remain in custody, police said. One arrest took place at Manchester Airport at 4.30am on Sunday, while the others happened in Bolton and Bury on Saturday evening. Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said he believes it was a "targeted attack" and there was no wider threat to the public.
