CAIRO – 5 April 2025: Egypt has condemned a recent attack on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), killing a peacekeeper from Kenya.
In a foreign ministry statement on Saturday, Egypt reiterated its firm stance against targeting UN peacekeeping missions.
Egypt reaffirmed its support for the vital role MINUSCA plays in promoting peace and stability in the region, as well as for the countries contributing to UN peacekeeping operations.
In light of this tragic incident, Egypt extends its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kenya following the loss of their peacekeeper.
The Kenyan blue helmet was killed by a group of assailants late in March in an ambush of a patrol in the southeast of the Central African Republic.
The fallen peacekeeper's unit was on a long-range patrol near Tabane village when the incident took place, according to a statement by the UN spokesperson's office.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the family of the peacekeeper as well as to the Kenyan government and people.
Guterres called for the Central African authorities to spare no effort to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice quickly.

Iran's supreme leader slams US nuclear proposal, says it will continue to enrich uranium

CNN — Iran's supreme leader has denounced a proposal by the United States aimed at curbing Tehran's nuclear efforts and demanded that his country retains independence amid reports of Washington offering to become involved in Tehran's nuclear program. Despite several rounds of talks between the two sides to thrash out a new nuclear deal major sticking points remain, with Iran insisting on its right to nuclear enrichment. 'The first word of the US is that Iran should not have a nuclear industry and should rely on the United States,' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told a crowd gathered in Tehran to commemorate the death of Imam Khomeini, the founder of Iran's Islamic Republic. 'Our response to the US' nonsense is clear: they cannot do a damn thing in this matter,' he said. The US sent a nuclear deal proposal to Iran on Saturday. CNN has learned this suggests the US could invest in Iran's civilian nuclear power program and join a consortium that would oversee the enrichment of low-level uranium inside Iran for an unspecified amount of time. That potential consortium would be expected to include Middle Eastern nations and the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency. Khamenei said Wednesday that Iran is refusing to allow the United States to give a 'green or red light' with its nuclear program and stressed on 'national independence.' A senior Iranian official told CNN on Monday that the US proposal is 'incoherent and disjointed, very unrealistic, and with excessive demands.' US President Donald Trump said on Monday, seemingly contrary to what was proposed to Iran, that the deal will not allow uranium enrichment. 'Under our potential Agreement — WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY ENRICHMENT OF URANIUM,' Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. Iran's supreme leader added on Wednesday that his country has been 'able to achieve a complete nuclear energy cycle,' a feat only achieved by a few countries. 'Uranium enrichment is an essential part of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, and we will not abandon it,' Khamenei said. Iran and the US concluded a fifth round of high-stakes nuclear talks in Rome on May 23 amid growing skepticism in Tehran about the chances of a deal. After that round of discussions, the two sides 'agreed to meet again in the near future,' a senior US administration official said at the time. UNSC to Vote on Gaza Aid Resolution Amid Rising Tensions

Ahmed Emam The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to vote Wednesday afternoon on a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza, as the enclave faces what the draft text describes as a 'catastrophic' humanitarian crisis. The draft resolution, authored by the ten non-permanent members of the Council, reiterates demands for the release of all individuals held by Hamas and calls for the restoration of full humanitarian services in line with international humanitarian law and Security Council resolutions. The vote comes amid mounting concerns over daily clashes and gunfire incidents tied to a controversial new system for distributing aid. The system, established in coordination between the United States and Israel, positions aid distribution points inside Israeli-declared military zones — a method its architects argue is designed to bypass Hamas control and ensure secure delivery. However, the United Nations has sharply criticized the new mechanism. UN officials argue that it fails to address the worsening hunger crisis in Gaza, undermines humanitarian principles of neutrality and independence, and risks turning aid into a political tool. 'The current system not only falls short of meeting the scale of need, but also raises serious concerns about impartial access to food and medical supplies,' said a senior UN official familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity. The draft resolution urges unrestricted, widespread, and safe delivery of aid — including by the UN and its humanitarian partners — and rejects any impediments that might delay or politicize assistance. It also calls for the reinstatement of all essential services in Gaza under humanitarian principles and legal frameworks. Diplomats from several member states, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of negotiations, said they expect the United States to veto the resolution, continuing a pattern of blocking UNSC action perceived as critical of Israel. Neither the U.S. nor Israeli missions to the UN have issued official comments on the resolution. The vote will mark the latest chapter in an intensifying global debate over access to humanitarian aid in Gaza, where months of conflict have left large swathes of the population without food, medicine, or shelter. UN agencies and aid groups have warned that famine is imminent if the situation does not change rapidly. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan

UN Hails Egypt's National Climate Dialogue as Model for Inclusive Action

Ahmed Emam The United Nations has commended Egypt for launching a nationwide climate dialogue, describing the initiative as a progressive and inclusive step that strengthens the country's role in global climate leadership. The National Social Dialogue on Climate Change was unveiled by the Ministry of Environment during a high-level event marking World Environment Day. In her address at the launch, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, praised the initiative as a bold move that places the voices of citizens at the center of climate policy. 'This is a clear signal that those affected by climate change must be central to shaping the solutions,' Panova said, echoing a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres: 'We are not only in danger — we are also the danger. But we are also the solution.' Panova highlighted Egypt's growing commitment to sustainable development, citing milestones such as the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, its Vision 2030 roadmap, and its successful hosting of the COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh. She described these efforts as evidence of a country that is not only responding to the climate crisis, but doing so with clarity of vision and determination. She also congratulated Egypt's Environment Minister, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, on her recent appointment as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification — a role Panova said reflects Egypt's increasing influence in international environmental governance. She credited Fouad's leadership for embedding climate priorities into the heart of Egypt's development agenda, particularly through her chairing of the national Climate Change Committee under the Prime Minister's office. Panova noted that the new dialogue initiative will engage local communities across Egypt, ensuring that climate strategies reflect the concerns and needs of those most directly impacted. She emphasized the UN's full support, adding that the process is already benefiting from a wide-ranging collaboration involving multiple UN agencies and Egyptian stakeholders. One of the dialogue's guiding tools will be the Climate Change Perception Survey, conducted under the leadership of researcher Dr. Magued Osman. The survey captured public attitudes toward climate issues and will help shape the discussions taking place across 18 governorates. Panova emphasized that real solutions will emerge from the people themselves, not from distant policymakers. 'Policies written in air-conditioned offices cannot solve a crisis that unfolds under the blazing sun,' she said. 'The answers lie with those living the reality of climate change.' She concluded by reaffirming the United Nations' partnership with Egypt, stressing that the UN stands not as a leader or instructor, but as a supporter and amplifier of national efforts. 'This dialogue builds on the legacy of Sharm El-Sheikh,' Panova said. 'It reminds us that climate justice begins by listening — and that's the path to a more resilient and sustainable future.' read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan
