FILE - UN peacekeepers patrol a town in northeastern Central African Republic - MINUSCA/Hervé Serefio CAIRO – 5 April 2025: Egypt has condemned a recent attack on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), killing a peacekeeper from Kenya. In a foreign ministry statement on Saturday, Egypt reiterated its firm stance against targeting UN peacekeeping missions. Egypt reaffirmed its support for the vital role MINUSCA plays in promoting peace and stability in the region, as well as for the countries contributing to UN peacekeeping operations. In light of this tragic incident, Egypt extends its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kenya following the loss of their peacekeeper. The Kenyan blue helmet was killed by a group of assailants late in March in an ambush of a patrol in the southeast of the Central African Republic. The fallen peacekeeper's unit was on a long-range patrol near Tabane village when the incident took place, according to a statement by the UN spokesperson's office. UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the family of the peacekeeper as well as to the Kenyan government and people. Guterres called for the Central African authorities to spare no effort to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice quickly.
