Weather today: IMD alerts for Uttarakhand day after cloudburst, flash flood; Delhi remains dry
On August 5, cloudburst-triggered flash floods and mud slides in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district caused severe damage to homes, shops and roads, and has resulted in several people feared missing, according to an ANI report.
More than 130 people have been rescued so far from devastation caused by two cloudbursts, one in Dharali and another in the Sukhi Top area, Uttarakhand government officials said. Efforts led by the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are ongoing.
The Met Department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across the state today, especially in the hill districts.
Meanwhile, in the Malappuram district of Kerala, heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging across the region, with the state's ghats receiving five-day 'very heavy rainfall' forecast from the IMD, as per another ANI report.
Further, the neighbouring southern state of Tamil Nadu has also got a 'very heavy rainfall' warning from the IMD for the same period, it added.
Himachal Pradesh has recieved heavy rainfall over the past six consecutive days, affecting daily life across the region. Many areas have been affected by dense fog, landslides and waterlogging.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in several districts, including Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, and Kangra, ANI reported.
The national capital Delhi saw maximum temperature at 32.7 degrees Celsius on August 5, a notch below the season's average, while the minimum was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, as per the weather department,
And while no rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours, humidity levels remained high, oscillating between 75 per cent in the morning and 69 per cent in the evening.
On August 6, IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain, with minimum and maximum temperatures likely to hover around 25 and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The IMD has forecast heavy rain in some districts of West Bengal till August 10, owing to an upper air circulation over north Bangladesh and an active monsoon trough, PTI reported.
The bulletin noted heavy rainfall is likely in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar till August 10; with heavy rains expected in North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Bankura and Purulia till August 8.
Meanwhile a prediction of 'light to moderate rain' has been issued for all other districts of West Bengal till August 10; and thunderstorms with lightning in Kolkata till August 8.
On August 6, an IMD yellow alert remains in effect for several districts in Arunachal Pradesh due to anticipated thunderstorms and moderate to heavy showers, including East Kameng, Namsai, Lohit, and Papum Pare, PTI reported.
The Met has issued a series of weather alerts for the next five days amid forecast for rain and thunderstorms across districts, with East Kameng also likely to experience hail, while heavy showers have been predicted over West Kameng and Upper Subansiri.
Most other districts, including Siang, Kurung Kumey, and Tawang, are expected to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms with a high probability of occurrence. Fairly widespread rainfall is forecasted for Namsai, West Siang, and East Kameng.

1 2 Ranchi: The Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department issued yellow alert across the state from Saturday till August 12, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning activities. The Met dept. in its weather bulletin also issued an orange alert for West Singhbhum, Seraikela Kharsawan and East Singhbhum districts on Saturday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.1°C, a drop of 3.2°C from the normal temperature, on Friday. Similarly, Jamshedpur recorded 28°C, a drop of 4.4°C, Daltonganj and Bokaro recorded 30.5°C and 28.5°C respectively, marking a drop of 1.6°C. On the contrary, Chaibasa recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state on Friday 33°C, marking an increase of 2.7°C from the normal. Rain batters Himachal: Fresh alerts for Shimla, Mandi; Chandigarh-Manali highway submerged
As flashfloods triggered by cloudburst continue to wreck havoc in Himachal Pradesh and its adjoining regions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a fresh warning of continued rainfall activity in Himachal Pradesh, with heavy rain expected in many parts of the state over the next few days. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Mandi and Bilaspur districts on August 11 and 12.(PTI) A Yellow Alert has been issued for Kangra, Una, and Sirmaur districts for heavy rainfall. Rainfall activity is expected to pick up again from the night of August 10 and continue through the morning of August 11. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Mandi and Bilaspur districts during this period as well. Over 450 roads, power transformers, water schemes hit in Himachal As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) under the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on Thursday, 452 roads, 861 power transformers (DTRs), and 244 water supply schemes remain disrupted across the state as of Wednesday evening due to heavy rainfall and associated calamities. National Highways 305 and 5 are among the blocked routes, with Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla emerging as the worst-hit districts in terms of road blockages. In Kullu alone, 117 roads are blocked, while Mandi reported 108 disrupted water schemes and 228 damaged power transformers, among the highest in the state.

Death toll in Himachal Pradesh reaches 208
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 8 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh continues to grapple with the devastating impact of the ongoing monsoon season, with total 208 people killed out of which 112 in rain-related incidents and 96 fatalities reported in road accidents, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).As per the cumulative loss report issued by the State Emergency Operation Centre, a total of 304 human lives have been lost in the state between June 20 and August 8, 2025, due to monsoon-induced disasters and traffic toll of 208 out of which 112 rain-related deaths stems from multiple calamities, including 17 fatalities in cloudbursts, 20 in drowning incidents, 11 due to electrocution, 9 in flash floods, 6 in landslides, and others caused by snake bites, fire, and falls from steep areas. Mandi recorded 23, while 10 died in Kullu and nine in parallel, 96 people were killed in road accidents across all districts, with Mandi (20), Shimla (15), and Kinnaur and Kullu (8 each) recording the highest number of such damage has also been severe.
