Teen dies in Prayagraj after Yamuna Bank Park gate falls on her
The deceased's father lodged a complaint at the Kydganj police station against the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the contractor who built the gate.
Amanya Gupta, 17, was the youngest of the four daughters and one son of retired PMC employee Umeshchandra Gupta, resident of Kydganj locality.
After the walk, the three sisters reached the main gate of the park. While opening it, the gate suddenly fell on Amanaya. Suffering serious head injuries, Aamanya fainted on the spot with blood oozing out of her head.
Hearing her screams, people present around removed the gate and pulled her out of the rubble. She was rushed to SRN Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
SHO Kydganj police station, Sanjay Kumar Singh, said that the deceased's father had filed a complaint against the PMC officials and the contractor accusing them of negligence. Legal action will be taken after investigating the matter, he added.
Locals said that about two weeks ago, the gate of the park had collapsed causing a fracture in a youth's shoulder. After that the people living in the slum in front of the park had somehow erected the gate and tied it with wire and rope.
The Yamuna Bank Park was constructed by PMC on the banks of Yamuna river under the Mahakumbh project. Mayor Umeshchandra Ganesh Kesarwani had inaugurated the park on April 26, 2025.

UP Police functioning improved due to hard work, smart tech use: Yogi
Lucknow: Highlighting the changes in the state's law and order machinery since 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that under the previous govts, it used to take years to catch criminals, but now they are apprehended within 24-48 hours. He said that with hard work and smart use of technology, UP Police have ensured that no criminal has the chance to escape the law. Addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day summit on 'Dimensions of cyber warfare, multilateral legal frameworks, forensics, and strategic countermeasures' organised by the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Forensic Sciences, the CM attributed this improvement to the better use of technology and forensic science. "Before 2017, there were only four forensic labs in the state, and their condition was terrible. Now, 12 new labs have been established, and six more are under construction. Mobile forensic units are being provided in 75 districts to collect forensic evidence," he said. "Cyber police stations have been established in all 75 districts to tackle cybercrimes, and cyber help desks have been set up in 1,587 police stations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? The CM added that a cyber headquarters would be set up in the state and efforts were being made to strengthen and empower UP Police. "To ensure proper and quick resolution of cases, it has been made mandatory to collect forensic evidence in every crime in the state since 2017," he said. "UP Police has improved its working style, and no criminal has a chance to escape the law. This is solely the result of the hard work of the police force and the smart use of technology. The UP Police force should update itself with modern technology to create a safe and technologically capable society for future generations. The govt's effort to modernise the country's largest police force will continue," he said. Earlier, the CM invoked the Maha Kumbh, saying that the govt made extensive use of technology to make the event highly successful. "According to Indian tradition, Kumbh is organised at four locations where nectar fell after a churning. Since Vedic era, churnings have led to the emergence of nectar or 'amrit', and events like the Kumbh not only keep India's ancient knowledge traditions alive but also serve as a medium for unity and exchange of ideas in society," he said. "Indian culture has always supported opening of all paths of knowledge. Indian culture believes that it is essential to develop and prepare oneself with time. UP Police must also be prepared to face upcoming challenges so that future generations can remember us with pride," he said. "This seminar will prepare society to tackle current challenges and will upgrade UP Police for future," the CM said. Earlier in the day, the CM also inaugurated the Padma Shri Dr Lalji Singh Advanced DNA Diagnostic Centre, AI, drone and robotics lab, Atal library, and distributed smart tablets to students. He also flagged off 75 mobile forensic vans. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Attack on ward councillor: HC stays arrest of Patna mayor, son
1 2 Patna: Patna high court has stayed the arrest of city mayor Sita Sahu and her son Shishir Kumar, wanted for allegedly assaulting ward councillor Jeet Kumar during a general body meeting of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on July 11. A single bench of Justice Shailendra Singh, while hearing a criminal writ application filed jointly by Sahu and her son, passed the order on Aug 14, however, the same was made available on Monday. The HC also ordered the state director general of police to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the case registered at Gandhi Maidan police station. Besides, the court directed the police to furnish CCTV camera footage of the alleged incidents of assault and ruckus that took place during the general body meeting of the PMC, seeking a reply within a week. The petitioners' counsel, Ansul, argued that the case against his clients is a "classic example of abuse of police machinery to wreck political vengeances". "The accusations against Sita and Shishir comprised minor offences mostly bailable in nature, except for one offence (of wrongful restraint), which carries punishment of three years' imprisonment. The Supreme Court, almost a decade ago, had ruled that in matters of crime containing minor punishments (less than seven years), police are duty bound to give a notice of appearance to an accused instead of arresting them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo But in the case of Sita, the police are hell bent on handcuffing her and Shishir despite the alleged crimes involving minor punishments," he said. Appreciating the submissions of Ansul, Justice Singh said that this case seems to be a misuse of police machinery and directed Patna police to file its reply within a week. This matter will be heard again on Aug 22. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
