‘Saturday Night Live UK' Eyes ‘Late Late Show' Producer James Longman As Showrunner
EXCLUSIVE: It's the talk of the British comedy entertainment community — and now Deadline can reveal that Saturday Night Live UK is already looking to assemble an eye-catching production team.
Industry sources said Sky and Universal Television Alternative Studio want to appoint James Longman, the executive producer of The Late Late Show With James Corden, as showrunner. A deal is not yet done and Universal Television Alternative Studio declined to comment.

SNL creator Lorne Michaels' name will be above the door of the UK version, but the hope is that Longman will oversee the series day-to-day. People familiar with the situation said Longman is already sounding out writers and cast.
He was an integral part of the Emmy-winning success of The Late Late Show, moving from London to LA to work alongside Corden and Ben Winston to produce the CBS series for seven years. His time in Hollywood will likely help SNL UK book high-profile guest hosts.
Known as 'Longers' to industry friends, Longman's other credits include Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… and British shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Alan Carr: Chatty Man.
Since The Late Late Show ended in 2023, Longman has set up Jolly Octopus, a production company co-founded by former Monkey executive Ollie Brack and backed by BBC Studios.
Deadline hears that Suzi Aplin, another well-regarded figure in UK comedy entertainment, is also set to join the Saturday Night Live UK team.
Given her background as producer of live shows such as Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and Comic Relief, she is expected to take up a senior production post. Aplin's other credits include Amazon Prime Video's Backstage With Katherine Ryan.
One senior entertainment source called Longman and Aplin the 'creme de la creme of talent,' with others noting how both are well-liked in UK entertainment circles.
Comcast-owned Sky announced the SNL remake on Thursday, with Michaels' Broadway Video and Universal Television Alternative Studio producing. The SNL team put in a huge amount of work prepping the UK comedy community prior to the announcement, we are told.
'Every comedy name and writer in the UK has already been approached about this,' said the entertainment source, who described a sense of palpable excitement due to Michaels' involvement.
Michaels is expected to run some masterclasses over the coming months with the chosen British comedy writers to teach them the SNL way, and he is thought to be planning on bringing American SNL writers over to help the Brits.
The UK version will launch in 2026 and become the most high-profile international version of the venerable NBC late-night show after remakes in China, Germany, Italy, and South Korea.
SNL is well known to comedy fans in the UK, but is more closely associated with viral online clips than full episodes on television. Sky only began airing full versions in 2020, while the show briefly featured on ITV4 in 2006. The UK version has been in the works for several years, with Deadline first revealing it was being developed at Sky in 2021.
The UK does not have a fantastic record of attempting to imitate late-night American comedy series. ITV's The Nightly Show was critically panned and dumped after one season in 2017. Channel 4's 10 O'Clock Live aired for three seasons at the start of last decade.

Spoilers below. Somebody get Maury Povich in touch with Georgia Miller. The 'Mayoress Murderess' of Wellsbury and co-lead protagonist of Netflix's hit dramedy Ginny & Georgia is officially pregnant again—for real this time!—and she might need some help determining paternity. In season 3, Georgia fakes a pregnancy using her daughter's (real) positive pregnancy test, so as to convince her husband, Mayor Paul Randolph, not to divorce her during her ongoing murder trial. But before she makes this objectively awful decision, Georgia first comforts her daughter, Ginny, after the latter has an abortion. As the two cuddle on the couch, Georgia shares that, when she herself was pregnant as a teenager, she wanted 'milk, just all the time. Straight from the carton. I would've sucked a cow.' She also jokes to Ginny, 'We are very fertile. Men sneeze at me, I'm ovulatin'. I had two kids before I could legally order a margarita.' Both throwaway lines serve as foreshadowing for what's to come in the finale episode, when a freed Georgia trots through the kitchen, drinking a quart of milk straight from the carton. 'Mom,' a startled Ginny begins, 'didn't you say you drink milk when you're pregnant?' The look on Georgia's face quickly confirms Ginny's suspicions. So has show creator Sarah Lampert, who asserts that Georgia is indeed pregnant. The big question everyone's asking, then: Who's the father? As Lampert joked to Netflix's Tudum, 'Ginny gets pregnant, Georgia fakes a pregnancy, and then Georgia really gets pregnant, and we don't know who the dad is. And when you say these things out loud, you're like, 'What in the world is this show?!'' (A fair question.) There are two potential options for the baby's father, as far as the audience knows: Mayor Paul and Blue Farm Café owner Joe, who first met Georgia as a teenager. Earlier in the season, Georgia sleeps with her then-husband Paul in a last-ditch effort to make their marriage work, before she makes the false pregnancy claim. Later, Paul leaves her and she makes the decision to skip town and dodge her trial. Joe shows up at her door hours before she makes a run for it, and the two end up sleeping together. 'In that moment, who shows up, but Joe, and he's not there to make a move,' Lampert told Deadline. 'He's not there in a romantic like, 'Oh, man, she really needs a friend.' So there's a little bit of an opening there for them to appreciate new things about each other. Because for him, it's always been this infatuation.' And if her reciprocation is any indicator, Georgia has feelings for him, too. So, who is the father of her unborn child? By the end of the season, it's clear that Paul and Georgia's relationship is officially over. There's little but hurt between them now, which has led Brianne Howey, who plays Georgia, to theorize that Joe would make for a better dad. 'Seeing the way things ended [between Georgia and Paul], seeing all of our true colors, and what we brought out of one another, I think the healthiest option for everyone was probably for that relationship to dissolve,' Howey told Tudum. 'And perhaps someone new is about to be a dad,' she teases. Added Raymond Ablack, who plays Joe, 'I would die of a broken heart [if Paul were the father].' Lampert told TVLine in a post-finale interview that, despite some early 'debate,' the Ginny & Georgia writers' room has indeed 'landed on whose baby it is.' Still, she insisted in a separate interview with Deadline that she can always change her mind. 'Here's what I'll say about that,' she told the outlet. 'I know whose baby she's carrying, but I went into the writer's room this season and I said, 'Here's who the daddy is. Change my mind.' So it's live wire in there. I'm telling you right now, I am open to being convinced otherwise.' Clearly, when it comes to love affairs, so is Georgia. After she turned down Joe's advances in the season 3 finale, she might have to reconsider her relationship with him when season 4 comes around. Kneel it like Beckham: Soccer great to be honored with knighthood
David Beckham, the former England soccer captain who has been an ambassador for the U.N. children's fund for two decades, is to receive a knighthood in next week's honors list from King Charles III, according to U.K. media reports Friday. Without citing sources, the BBC said Beckham is set to receive further recognition both for his soccer career, and his contributions to British society. The knighthood will make Beckham "Sir David" while his wife since 1999, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will become "Lady Beckham." In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to soccer. Victoria Beckham got the same honor for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list. Honors are awarded twice a year, once at New Year's, and then in June to mark the king's birthday. They are mostly made on the recommendation of the government, though the monarch has input too. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office would not confirm the press reports, as is custom. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm the award of the knighthood, which was first reported in The Sun tabloid newspaper. In video footage published by The Sun from the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this month, the king is seen asking Beckham if he "received his 50th birthday present." The King appeared to say "I'm glad it got to you," with Beckham responding: "It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind." "I knew it was bad at the time, but going over that whole thing was quite a tough one," he told the AP.
