Hes getting really good feeling: Arsenal boss Arteta backs struggling Gyokeres

London [UK], August 7 (ANI): Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta believes their latest acquisition, Viktor Gyokeres, who came with a hefty price tag, is making progress at the club after his silent outing against Spanish outfit Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal fans, who endured weeks of negotiations to see Gyokeres don the Gunners jersey, eventually got their wishes fulfilled. The prolific number nine finally arrived in London from Portugal and made his home debut. While many believe that the Swedish striker was the final missing piece of the puzzle that would ignite Arsenal's Premier League ambitions, but instead got a reality check. Gyokeres showed signs of struggling to adjust his game around his new teammates and remained in the hunt for his first Arsenal goal. Arteta believes that the 27-year-old needs more gametime to build a connection with his new teammates to get into the position he needs to be. 'He's been with us only a week or so, but I already saw a lot of things and a lot of purpose, especially the way he was attacking in certain spaces. So, in general, for a lot of players that haven't played many minutes, we have a lot now that they're going to be ready for Saturday in a much better condition," he told reporters as quoted from 'I hope days and every day in training, I think he's getting a really good feeling. I think he's built connections as well outside, which I think is really important with players that are going to help him to be in the position that he needs to get in. His fitness level, I think he hasn't trained really with the team for two months, so he's done now six or five sessions, I think, before today. So, I think on Saturday, again, I think he will take another step and he will be in a better condition," he added. After suffering a 3-2defeat against Villarreal, Arsenal have one more game left in the annual Emirates Cup against Athletic Club, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The Gunners will then bolster their preparations for the season opener against Manchester United on August 17. (ANI)

Manchester United Reach Agreement In Principle To Sign RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko: Report

Last Updated: RB Leipzig will reportedly sell striker Benjamin Šeško to Manchester United for €85 million. Despite Newcastle's bid, Šeško prefers Old Trafford. United may include Rasmus Højlund. It seems as if the dream might be coming to life for the Red Devils. RB Leipzig has reportedly reached a personal agreement in principle with Manchester United to sell sought-after striker Benjamin Šeško for an estimated €85 million. According to The Athletic, a deal worth €76.5million and €8.5 million in add-ons has been set in place, with Šeško permitted to travel for medical tests ahead of the proposed move. Newcastle United have also pursued Šeško and saw a bid of €82.5m plus €2.5m in add-ons accepted by Leipzig on Tuesday. But, the Slovenia international seemingly has favoured a move to Old Trafford, and hence Newcastle's hopes fell flat with their proposed move. This comes despite Newcastle providing UEFA Champions League football in 2025-26. Šeško scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season and has recorded 39 goals and eight assists in 87 appearances for the Bundesliga team since joining from RB Salzburg in 2023. United's Financial Flexibility: Buy Now, Balance Later Despite needing to sell players this summer, Manchester United are in a position to buy before selling, provided that outgoing deals are completed before the end of the window. With a third straight summer of goal-scoring concerns, Amorim has made it clear that bolstering the frontline is essential, and Šeško, with his blend of size, movement, and technical ability, fits the mold of a long-term No. 9. Manchester United have already strengthened up front with the additions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. But, the need for a classic No. 9 still remains. A potential breakthrough could come via a player-plus-cash deal involving Rasmus Højlund, United's current striker. RB Leipzig are reportedly open to selling Šeško if United include Højlund in the offer, along with a financial sweetener. Højlund, 22, joined United last summer amid high expectations but struggled in his second campaign, netting just four Premier League goals in 2024–25 after an encouraging 10-goal debut season. While some at United remain confident in his long-term potential, Leipzig sees an opportunity to acquire a talented young forward who could thrive in the Bundesliga's more developmental environment. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
