
Al-Rahida Customs seizes smuggled medicines
Al-Rahida Customs Center in Taiz province, in cooperation with Anti-Smuggling Unit, seized on Sunday a quantity of smuggled medicines.
Center's Director Mohammed al-Jaberi told Saba News Agency that the smuggled drugs were intercepted in the Samea district while being transported on the backs of porters.
Al-Jaberi praised the efforts of the Anti-Smuggling Unit and its cooperation with customs authorities to combat all forms of smuggling.
He highlighted the challenges posed by the region's rugged terrain, which smugglers exploit using porters, camels, and donkeys to move contraband.
Al-Jaberi stressed that customs authorities are working around the clock in full coordination with relevant agencies to protect public health and safety from the dangers of smuggled and banned goods.

Taiz — A tragic accident in southwestern Yemen has left two men dead and five others hospitalized after a mass suffocation incident inside a shallow well in the Jabal Habashi district of Taiz governorate. According to local authorities, the incident occurred in the village of Sahaba, al-Sharaja area, when a group of men descended into a poorly ventilated well to operate a water pump powered by a diesel generator. The generator's toxic exhaust fumes quickly filled the confined space, causing the two initial entrants—aged 28 and 65—to lose consciousness and die on the spot. Five others attempted to rescue the victims but were also overcome by the fumes, suffering severe respiratory distress.
