VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Ty Simpson was Nick Saban's quarterback at Alabama football, the five-star the former Crimson Tide coach recruited to move from Martin, Tennessee, to Tuscaloosa.
Heading into 2025, with Jalen Milroe off to the NFL after two seasons as Alabama's starting quarterback, Saban, before the Nick's Kids Foundation Golf Tournament at Old Overton Golf Club in Vestavia Hills, once again gave Simpson his stamp of approval

"Ty was an outstanding high school player no doubt," Saban said. "He's a fine young man. I think his example is a true example of development. He matured and developed for (three) years and now he's going to get the opportunity and I think his experiences are really going to help him be successful. We're rooting for him, that's for sure, and I have every confidence that he'll do a great job."
Simpson is widely expected to start Alabama's 2025 season as its starting quarterback after battling for first-team reps with Austin Mack and Keelon Russell in the spring.
Simpson has the most experience in the Crimson Tide quarterback room, with 50 career pass attempts across three seasons with the Crimson Tide. He has three rushing touchdowns. And Ryan Grubb, Alabama's offensive coordinator, called Simpson the incoming starter "if we're playing a game tomorrow," a message head coach Kalen DeBoer later reiterated.
Simpson was sold on Alabama through Saban as a five-star quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class.

'As a guy who loved football and a guy who's been around it all my life,' Ty Simpson told the Tuscaloosa News in January, 'I just kind of fell in love with the process and the way that he envisioned it.'
Alabama football will open the 2025 season at Florida State at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.

Where does Auburn's 'kick six' rank among ESPN's best plays since 2000?

Where does Auburn's 'kick six' rank among ESPN's best plays since 2000? Every Auburn fan remembers where they were the moment Chris Davis crossed the end zone to beat Alabama in 2013. Many Auburn fans remember where they were on Nov. 28, 2013, when Chris Davis returned a missed Alabama field goal 109 yards to the end zone as time expired, leading the No. 4 Auburn Tigers to a 34-28 win over No. 1 Alabama at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The play known affectionately as the "kick six" sent Auburn to the SEC Championship Game to represent the SEC West at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, which ultimately led the Tigers to its second BCS National Championship game in four seasons. It is a play that is fresh on every college football fans' mind, regardless of how it makes each individual feel. There have been several unforgettable plays over the last 25 years, where does the Chris Davis return rank among them? ESPN recently revealed its list of the top 25 plays since 2000, and has given the iconic return the top spot. ESPN set up the play, describing Alabama running back TJ Yeldon's run that ended out of bounds, seemingly ending regulation. However, Alabama head coach Nick Saban pleaded his case to put one second back on the clock, to give his field goal unit enough time to kick the go-ahead field goal. Saban was awarded the extra second, to which he called on kicker Adam Griffith to relieve Cade Foster, who missed three field goals earlier in the game, to attempt the 56-yard field goal. The kick, as we know it, fell short and set Davis up with the memorable return. Chris Low of ESPN shared the implications of the kick for both Alabama and Auburn fans. The loss kept Saban and the previously unbeaten Crimson Tide from playing for what would have been their third straight national championship. Auburn advanced to the final BCS national championship game, where the Tigers in Gus Malzahn's first season as coach lost to Florida State in the final seconds. It's a play that will live in the hearts of Auburn fans, who can still hear the school's radio play-by-play announcer, the late Rod Bramblett, screaming "Auburn's going to win the football game!" as Davis crossed the goal line. The kick six happened two weeks after another miracle play occurred. Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall connected with wide receiver Ricardo Louis on 4th and 18 with 0:36 remaining in their game with Georgia to go ahead of the Bulldogs and ultimately win, 43-38. Other key plays to join the "kick six" in the top five are Boise State's statue of liberty play to beat Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, Appalachian State's blocked kick to stun Michigan in 2005, and Vince Young's touchdown scramble to beat USC in the 2006 BCS National Championship Game. DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)—Round 4 of the East 1 Qualifying School (Q-School) event has officially wrapped up on the RTJ Golf Trail at Highland Oaks. Over 140 professional golfers from around the globe made their way to the Circle City to compete for 11 qualifying spots in the PGA TOUR Americas North America Swing. Advertisement South Carolina native, Garret Reband, was able to walk away with the first-place finish in the tournament after shooting 24 under par. After finishing round three tied for 25th, Dothan native and Rehobeth alum, Brantley Scott, was able to claw his way back to tied for 6th place, good enough to net him a spot on the PGA tour. Scott credited his comeback effort to his familiarity with playing on this course throughout his life. 'This place is a big-boy golf course,' Scott said. 'Around the greens, there are places you can miss, and you cannot miss. Playing out here my whole life, just knowing where to hit it and where not to hit it is a big advantage over the field.' Athlon Sports ranks Notre Dame secondary third nationally

Athlon Sports ranks Notre Dame secondary third nationally Notre Dame is expected to have one of the top secondaries in college football in 2025. Athlon Sports ranks them near the top returning groups in the country! #GoIrish — Bryan Driskell (@CoachD178) June 14, 2025 Another national publication is bullish on Notre Dame's secondary heading into the season. Pro Football Focus ranked the Fighting Irish No. 3 behind Texas and Alabama in its top-10 secondaries, and Athlon Sports did the same. Even with All-American Xavier Watts and Benjamin Morrison now in the NFL, standouts such as cornerbacks Leonard Moore and Christian Gray should keep the Irish secondary among the nation's best. Gray was a little inconsistent after returning from an injury last fall, but the expectations are that Irish fans will see the pre-injury version of him in 2025. Safety Adon Shuler learned under Watts and could be poised for a standout season. He had 59 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions while playing alongside Watts last year. ND also landed Alabama transfer Devonta Smith in the portal. The big question is who will play safety opposite Shuler. Luke Talich, Brauntae Johnson, freshman JaDon Blair and Virginia Tech transfer Jalen Stroman are all in the mix. Notre Dame's secondary will be a key component of a team that has College Football Playoff aspirations once again.
