The case concerns the alleged fraudulent acquisition of a house and property worth approximately ₹4.5 crore in Jawahar Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram. Police said fake documents were used to take possession of a ten-room house and 14 cents of land belonging to a US-based doctor. The property was subsequently sold using the forged papers.

Bhubaneswar: With Odisha being targeted as a potential destination for hydroponic marijuana, a Bangkok-based drug cartel is using airport-hopping tactics to smuggle the contraband into the state, a senior official of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) told TOI on condition of anonymity. After two failed attempts at Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), carriers are now suspected to be rerouting consignments through airports like Jharsuguda, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru to avoid detection. "Once they escape scrutiny at any of these airports, they use other modes of transport to deliver the consignment. Last month, a marijuana consignment was seized at Kolkata airport," the official said. In two recent busts, hydroponic marijuana worth a total of Rs 40 crore was seized. The carriers in both cases were unrelated and came from different states—three from Uttar Pradesh in the first case, and one from Gujarat in the second. "The carriers are only handed an air ticket at Bangkok airport and are instructed to carry the consignment. Unlike regular marijuana, this soil-free variant contains about 30% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), compared to just 3% in the common strain, making it far more potent. Based on interrogation of the arrested carriers, investigators are now trying to trace the main operatives involved in the cartel, both in Bangkok and Bhubaneswar, including the hotels they frequent and the local distribution network.

Cong spl train to Delhi takes off with BC push for 42% quota
Hyderabad: A special train carrying over 1,200 Congress leaders and workers, including 200 Mahila Congress members, departed from Cherlapally railway station at 10 am on Monday, heading to Delhi with a single-point agenda — to demand 42% reservation for Backward Classes. Dominated by BC leaders from across Telangana, the contingent also included Reddy and other forward caste leaders, symbolically reinforcing broad-based support for the demand. The train, expected to reach Delhi by Tuesday evening, will take a slower route as regular services are being prioritised for clearance. TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari boarded the train but alighted at Alair to address a press conference. Ponnam, who came to flag off the rally, was unable to disembark at Cherlapally due to the surge of supporters crowding into his coach. "In fact, former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao slashed the BC quota from 34% to 23% in the last local body elections and imposed a 50% reservation cap under the Panchayat Raj Act," he said. "It was only after Rahul Gandhi demanded a caste census that the Centre agreed to consider it. Revanth has shown that a scientific caste survey is possible. Telangana now offers a model for the nation," Natarajan added. Revanth, accompanied by ministers and senior Congress leaders, will fly to Delhi on Tuesday for a three-day visit, concluding on Aug 7.
