The Glasgow bar with food and live music that was named 'Scotland's best pub'
If you are looking for the best of the best, however, one Glasgow bar was recently named the number one in the country. As we previously reported, The Scallion took home the 'Best Pub' prize at the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards earlier this month.
The Scallion is a gastropub located on Great Western Road in Glasgow's popular West End. It can be reached from the city centre in approximately 30 minutes on foot.
The pub offers a wide variety of drinks, with a large range of beer and cider on draught. There is also a selection of whisky and other spirits on offer, as well as white, red, and rosé wines.
Customers can also order a range of cocktails for £10, including the 'Drumstick' and the 'June-bug'. The former is made with vanilla and raspberry vodka and raspberry puree, while the latter includes rum, melon, coconut, and banana liqueur.
In terms of things to eat, The Scallion states that it serves "the highest quality food" using "carefully sourced ingredients". It serves up a varied menu, with a large range of mains and sides available.
Mains on offer include pub classics like fish and chips, steak pie, steak sandwich, and lasagne. Visitors can also enjoy pizza, wings, and more.
There is also a Sunday Roast menu available, which is suitable for both traditional and vegan diets. Visitors can choose from sliced beef, Ayrshire ham, or Quorn chicken fillet and sausage, with sides such as rosemary, thyme and garlic roast potatoes, maple glazed carrots and parsnips, and white wine braised savoy cabbage.
Meanwhile, The Scallion showcases live sports fixtures and live music. It also features a jukebox, as well as having a pool table.
In addition to winning the 'Best Pub' award at the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards, The Scallion has earned positive feedback from visitors.
The bar has an average rating of 4.2 out of five on Google based on 192 reviews. One recent customer posted: "Superb pub for food and drinks.
"There's a real family feel to this pub and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Been a few times for food & drinks and it just never disappoints.
"A special shout of to Maia, Paul and Sam who go above and beyond for their customers, their laughter and energy is contagious.

We've discovered a huge sandy beach that few people know about. Porth Ceiriad is located on a remote stretch of coast towards the southern end of the Llŷn Peninsula and offers a crowd-free day by the sea – if you can find it. It's an absolute gem of a beach owned by the National Trust and tucked away beneath towering cliffs. You'll get sweeping views over Cardigan Bay all the way to the mountains of the Eryri National Park. It's also less than three miles from the popular seaside village resort of Abersoch where you'll find plenty of cafes, shops, and facilities. This lovely dog-friendly beach is rarely very busy – largely because it's a fair stomp from the nearest parking and is reached by walking across fields and ascending a steep flight of steps. Even in the middle of the school holidays it never feels rammed so it's a brilliant spot if you're after peace and big ocean views. Article continues below Finding the isolated spot is part of the challenge for intrepid explorers. Many Tripadvisor reviewers posted about their joy at finding the beach when the satnav couldn't. One poster remarked: "It's an adventure to get there on single-track country roads. Good luck with the tractors." Online it's even dubbed the "Porth Ceiriad Mystery Tour" because of the curious case of disappearing tourists led astray by unreliable satellite navigation directions and confounding maps. To get there you'll need to go through the former Nant Y Big campsite. From there it's just a short trek across a couple of fields before you reach a steep set of steps carved right into the cliff. It's a bit of a thigh burner but totally worth it once you see the golden sands and crashing waves. While it's a perfectly lovely sandy stretch this is where you come for a spot of solitude to walk the dog or have a bracing sea dip. There are no facilities here including toilets, cafes, or lifeguards so if you're plodding down here you'll need to bring everything with you. It's a proper wild seashore free from seaside resort tat shops, whirring arcades, and beachside fish and chip shops. If you bring a big beach picnic be aware that there are no bins here so you'll need to take all your rubbish home to keep this scenic spot beautiful and litter-free. The Beach Guide notes that, along with a beautiful sandy shore and geologically-significant cliffs, the surf at Porth Ceiriad is about the best on the Llŷn Peninsula. They add that while generally quite sheltered the surf at this south-facing beach comes into its own during the winter months. If you're new to surfing this might not be the best spot to give it a whirl. The waves can pack a punch here and the rip currents can be downright feisty. There's also no lifeguard here and the nearest loos and facilities are a few miles away. Porth Ceiriad is also popular with other watersports and in the summer, you might spot a range of crafts including kayaks, paddleboards, and even yachts. About 0.7 miles on take a left onto Lon Groes – you'll spot it by the green electricity substation so keep your eyes peeled. Soon after you'll come to a contactless payment barrier at what used to be the Nant Y Big campsite. From there a path leads you straight towards the beach. There's a car park perched right up on the cliffs that gives you the feeling you might just drive off the edge but don't worry as you won't – but it's a bit of a thrill! If that's not your bag you can take an earlier turning towards Bwlchtocyn where there's a smaller car park tucked away on the far side of the village. You'll need to navigate a few cattle grids and some fairly narrow lanes but you'll get there. That one's coin-only with prices ranging from £2 to £4 for up to four hours or £5 for the whole day. Tech companies know when ‘you're looking at pictures of your ex'
Social media developers have worked tirelessly to track your every move, and the designers behind these apps have confirmed they can even see when you're stalking an ex's profile Tech experts who helped to create the apps we use day in day out have since opened up about just how much of your online behaviour they track – and it turns out it's just about everything. The Social Dilemma is a groundbreaking documentary that dropped on Netflix, revealing to audiences the inner workings of their most used apps. From Google to Facebook and Instagram, the creators behind some of these big hitters opened up about just how much of what you get up to on your devices is monitored and used to keep you online. "If you are not paying for the product. You are the product". These were powerful words used by former Google design ethicist and leading voice throughout the film, Tristan Harris. He explained in simple terms the ethics behind sites - that while they may seem like a simple way to see what your friends are up to or source new information, they are essentially "competing for your attention". The technology ethicist named some of the world's biggest social media apps and how their business models are all set to keep people engaged on their screens. Other experts chimed in to explain that while many of these services we deem to be free, they are in fact not, it's just that they are in fact paid for by advertisers – ultimately, our attention is the product. The documentary explains the way in which these booming tech companies, in order to be successful, need to have accurate predictions. How they do that is with a hell of a lot of data, which they gather through constantly monitoring our online behaviour. Jeff Seibert, Twitter 's former executive and serial tech entrepreneur, explained just how this works. He said: "What I want people to know is that everything they're doing online is being watched, is being tracked, is being measured. Every single action you take is carefully monitored. and recorded." "Many people call this surveillance capitalism," Harris explains. He added: "Capitalism profits off of the infinite tracking of everywhere everyone goes by large technology companies whose business model is to make sure that advertisers are as successful as possible." When explaining just how much tech companies monitor, Seibert said they have the capability to see not only when you look at something but also how long you're looking at it for. This helps them to understand users' emotions on a deeper level when they're feeling lonely or even in depressive states. "They know when people are looking at photos of their ex romantic partners," the tech entrepreneur explained. "They know what you're doing late at night. They know the entire thing." If one thing became clear in The Social Dilemma, it was that technology companies have more unprecedented amounts of information about us than anyone has ever had before. The more we continue to use these apps, the better they get to know their users and the more time they can guarantee we spend using their platforms. The film is available to stream for free tonight so fans will not want to miss out Mean Girls fans will want to turn on their television screens tonight as the popular film that fans can quote word for word is streaming for free. Mean Girls was released in 2004, and despite being out for over two decades, it remains a huge hit with fans. With its witty humour, the film follows new student transfer Cady Heron as she enters a new complex social hierarchy in her new American school. But she soon finds herself in the centre of a long standing rivalry between a group of "mean girls" and two "outcasts". Starring Lindsay Lohan as Cady, fans also recognise Rachel McAdams as Regina George, Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith and Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners. And now the film will be airing on ITV2 and ITVX at 7pm tonight, Sunday, August 17. The feel good film follows Mamma Mia which is being aired at 4.45pm. Due to the huge success of the first Mean Girls film back in 2004, a sequel was released in 2011 but was largely disliked, with the original remaining a firm favourite with fans. Taking to Google reviews, one fan wrote: "Mean Girls (2004) is the best movie ever. I would recommend it to everyone in the world." Another echoed: "Mean Girls is my all time favorite movie!" A third penned: "Mean girls (2004) has got to be one one of the most amazing movies ever, not only is it timeless but the movie itself is original. Lindsay Lohan did amazing and I couldn't have thought of a better actress to portray Regina George but Rachel McAdams." They added: "All of the other actors and actresses deserve the praise they got, after 20 years I can still watch this movie with the same pleasure and joy I got when I first saw it years ago."
