In Jharkhand, trouble mounts for Sita Soren as ex-PA files abduction case
A Dhanbad court has admitted a criminal complaint filed by Jharkhand BJP leader Sita Soren's ex-aide Devashish Manoranjan Ghosh, who has accused her of abducting, assaulting, looting, and framing him in an Arms Act case earlier this year.
Ghosh, who was a former PA to Soren, alleged that on March 6 he was taken to Dhanbad at Sita's behest under the pretext of attending a wedding. He alleged he was 'diverted from Wedlock Hotel to Sonotel Hotel in Dhanbad, where the conspiracy unfolded'.
'On the evening of March 6 while I was taking rest in the hotel (Sonotel Hotel), I was asked to come out of the hotel, where nearly 15 people assaulted me, looted money from my ATM and UPI apps, and planted weapons including a pistol (desi katta) near me,' Ghosh alleged. 'They filed an FIR against me the same night at Saraidhela police station under the Arms Act and I was arrested soon afterwards. I spent 31 days in jail,' he said.
Ghosh claimed that 'the real reason behind Sita Soren's fallout with me was political'. He said Sita had accused him of 'aligning' with Congress leader Irfan Ansari in the Jamtara seat during the November 2024 Jharkhand polls in an alleged attempt to 'sabotage' her campaign. After his release on bail, Ghosh said he refrained from approaching the police and has now chosen to directly move a Dhanbad court with his complaint against Sita.
The court held its first hearing in the matter on Tuesday.
Sita, meanwhile, has denied the allegations levelled by Ghosh, accusing him of allegedly committing a fraud to the tune of `1.5 crore during the Jharkhand poll campaign.

Back from Dubai, human trafficker lands in police net
New Delhi: Zakir Daud Khan thought he outsmarted the law after his placement agency was exposed in a human trafficking scandal in 2022, and several colleagues, including one of the owners, were arrested by Economic Offences Wing. Khan fled to Dubai, but his return to India a few weeks ago proved to be his undoing—a routine card transaction alerted the authorities, who swiftly arrested him. Khan's agency allegedly duped innocent people from Delhi, promising them lucrative jobs in the UAE in exchange for exorbitant fees. A reward was declared for information on him. "Khan's involvement in the human trafficking racket dates back to when he started working as an agent for Fiza Placement Pvt Ltd, a company that promised fake overseas employment opportunities to job seekers," said DCP Amit Kaushik. He recruited people through other agents, facilitated their contact with the company, and collected payments in cash, cheques or bank transfers. Khan worked on a partnership basis, receiving a share of the defrauded money. The company, along with its sister concern, ASIATAS Consulting (OPC) Pvt Ltd, targeted people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar, collecting money from each of them for forged visas, and retained their passports. Over 80 complaints were filed, with victims losing crores of rupees. Khan fled to Dubai after the case was registered but returned to India and was hiding in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra. Police are now working to uncover the extent of Khan's involvement in the human trafficking racket and identify other people who may have been involved. A day after J&K BJP brass sought LG Manoj Sinha's intervention for scrapping the mandatory Urdu test for recruitments to naib tehsildar (revenue official) post, opposition PDP on Friday pushed back and asked the Omar Abdullah govt not to bow to pressure, even as governing National Conference (NC) has kept mum so far, reports Naseer Ganai. "Urdu has been the official language of J&K for centuries. At least 70% of the population is familiar with the language in written and spoken form. All revenue records are preserved in this language. BJP's dislike for Urdu should be resisted by the NC govt," PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said. Party MLA Waheed Parra said BJP's demand to remove Urdu from the revenue exam, if accepted, would risk erasing J&K's rich archive and cultural legacy. "Urdu is more than a language - it is a key part of J&K's heritage," he said. The controversy erupted after J&K Services Selection Board on June 9 issued an advertisement for 75 posts of naib tehsildar, specifying 'working knowledge of Urdu' as a mandatory requirement. BJP protested the move, saying it violated constitutional principles of equal opportunity and administrative impartiality and created an unfair barrier, putting aspirants from Jammu in a disadvantageous position as they usually studied Hindi and Punjabi languages. Party leaders said J&K had five official languages and giving preference to one of these in recruitment exams was discriminatory. Representative image (ANI) AYODHYA : Local authorities in Ayodhya and Barabanki of BJP-governed UP have refused to allow two annual Urs ceremonies, citing concerns over potential breach of peace and law-and-order problems. The ceremonies have been held for years and the permission for the one in Ayodhya was denied following a complaint from VHP activists. The Ayodhya gathering has been organised at the shrine of Dada Miya in Khanpur Masodha area. The other relates to the Urs of Syed Shakeel Baba and has been held in Phoolpur area of Barabanki for the past 75 years. The VHP complaint claimed the Ayodhya gathering was being organised in the name of "Ghazi Baba" (a reference to Syed Salar Masood of Bahraich) instead of Dada Miya Urs. Salar Masood is believed to be the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni and served as his military commander. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently declared that no event celebrating foreign aggressors should be allowed in the state. The permission granted under the name of "Urs Dada Miya" has been revoked as it was found that it was being organised under the name of Ghazi Baba, said Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari.
