Rehoboth man charged with assaulting pregnant woman who is now missing: What to know
Gregory Groom has been charged with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness for acts committed against 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro on Wednesday, Aug. 6, according to a written statement from the Bristol County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
Monteiro was last seen on Aug. 7, according to a post by the Rehoboth Police Department.
Groom is currently being held without bail and will be arraigned on Wednesday morning, Aug. 20, in Taunton District Court.
Bristol County State Police Detective Unit members and the Rehoboth Police Department are attempting to locate Monteiro, according to the Aug. 11 Facebook post by Rehoboth Police. Monteiro was last seen in the area of County Street in Rehoboth on Aug. 7, according to the post. She is approximately 6-feet tall with light brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a red t-shirt with "get over it" printed on the front, ripped jeans and tan boots and she may have been carrying a white bag with her belongings.
The post asks anyone with information regarding her whereabouts or with surveillance video of County Street to contact Trooper Sabrina Hinchey at 508-972-1041 or Rehoboth Police Det. Paul McGovern at 508-252-3722 x 1135.
WCVB-TV is reporting that Monteiro's family members say she got into an argument with her boyfriend before she went missing, and that she told them she was in fear for her safety. The DA's office did not refer to Groom as Monteiro's boyfriend in the written statement, but Monteiro's family says Groom is her boyfriend, WCVB is reporting.
According to WCVB, police have searched a wooded area in Rehoboth, which is where Monteiro was last seen and near where her boyfriend lives. WCVB crews saw police carrying evidence bags while searching for Monteiro, WCVB is reporting.
"I'm scared, I'm really scared," Monteiro's sister, Faith Monteiro, told WCVB. "I don't know if they have her, but some part of me feels like they do."
The investigation remains ongoing by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts State Police and Rehoboth Police, the DA's office said.

Donna Adelson trial Day 2 live updates: Court makes strides in jury selection
Jury selection resumes for a second day Aug. 20 in the murder trial of Donna Adelson, who is accused of helping to orchestrate the 2014 plot to kill Florida State University law professor Dan Markel. Roughly 300 people have been summoned for jury duty. Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett and lawyers for the state and defense are questioning each of the jurors individually behind closed doors as part of a pre-screening to find out how much media they have consumed about the case and whether that has affected their ability to serve as fair and impartial jurors. Jurors who have passed that test have been asked to return to the Leon County Courthouse at 11 a.m. Thursday for group jury selection, the last step before a final panel is picked. Just like the first day of jury selection, 50 potential jurors will be questioned in the morning and another 50 in the afternoon. On Aug. 19, 64 out of 102 potential jurors were asked to come back for group jury selection. Pretrial publicity has been a major issue raised by the defense in previous Markel trials. The defendant's son, Charlie Adelson, who was convicted in Markel's murder in 2023, claimed in his appellate brief filed in May that Everett erred by not granting a defense motion for a change of venue. Donna Adelson's attorneys also asked Everett to move the trial out of town, though he has declined so far to do so. Markel was shot in the head on July 18, 2014, after pulling into his garage of his Betton Hills home ― a shocking crime that happened as he and his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, the defendant's daughter, were feuding in court over custody of their two sons. Prosecutors have long alleged the Adelson family wanted Markel out of the picture so Wendi Adelson and the boys could relocate to South Florida. Prosecutor asks to allow evidence about changing last name of Markel's sons Assistant State Attorney Georgia Cappleman asked Judge Stephen Everett this morning, Aug. 20, about whether communication between Donna Adelson and her daughter, Wendi Adelson, about changing her two sons' last name from Markel to Adelson can be admitted into evidence. Everett asked Cappleman about the purpose of the evidence. She replied that it was "part of the motive to erase the father' from the lives of Wendi Adelson and Dan Markel's sons. Everett asked whether there were any communications or other evidence that would show a connection between mother and daughter as it pertains to the name change. Cappleman said there are communications between Donna and Wendi Adelson about their last names before the name change occurred. Everett asked Cappleman to provide a copy of the communication. Four family members, including two children, were found dead inside a New Hampshire home on the night of Monday, Aug. 18, with their identities released by police the day after. On Tuesday, Aug. 19, officials identified the victims as a 34-year-old mother, a 48-year-old father, an 8-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. USA TODAY is not naming the deceased to protect the identity of the toddler. According to a news release from the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, the incident is currently being investigated as a "potential murder-suicide." Officials said that four bodies were found inside a home in Madbury, New Hampshire, on Monday night after receiving a 911 call. Madbury is located in the state's Seacoast region, northwest of Portsmouth. According to the statement, apart from the four bodies, a toddler was also found alive and uninjured inside the home. "Each of the deceased family members appears to have suffered gunshot wounds, and were pronounced dead at the scene," the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said. State officials searching for motive New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati told WCVB that investigators currently have more questions than answers. "A lot of things are still on the table as investigators get into it, but there is the possibility and what they're looking at this, potentially, is that it could be a murder-suicide," Agati said, per the Boston-based TV station. Officials added that there is no known threat to the public at this time. Fernando Cervantes Jr. is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Reach him at and follow him on X @fern_cerv_.

Travis Decker Manhunt: Police Share New Evidence in Daughters' Murders
Originally appeared on E! Online Authorities are sharing more information surrounding Travis Decker's case. Over two months after the bodies of his and ex-wife Whitney Decker's daughters Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were discovered at a campground in Leavenworth, Wash., police have linked the patriarch's DNA to the plastic bags used to kill the girls, whose causes of death were determined to be suffocation, per the autopsies completed by the Medical Examiner. 'Two of the victims each had two separate bags over their heads and the third victim had three separate bags over their head,' the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said in an Aug. 19 press release shared to Facebook. 'In addition, several cable ties were located on the ground in the immediate area of the bodies. These plastic bags and cable ties were collected that night by the Washington State Patrol Crime Response Team.' After sending this evidence for DNA analysis, authorities said that they believe Travis—who is wanted on first-degree charges of murder and kidnapping—is the 'only suspect involved in committing these homicides.' 'DNA profiles matching Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia Decker were also located on the plastic bags. No other DNA profiles were obtained from the plastic bags.' Regarding the cable ties found at the scene, the police department added, 'One DNA profile was obtained from the cable ties collected at the scene. That DNA sample matched the profile for Travis Decker. No other DNA profiles were obtained from the cable ties.' The sheriff's office, who has previously described Travis, 32, as "well versed in wilderness survival and capable of spending days or even weeks in the wilderness on his own and with very little equipment,' also confirmed that their search efforts for the army veteran continue. 'Decker's whereabouts remain unknown,' the statement concluded. 'At this time, we do not have any evidence to suggest Travis Decker is either alive or deceased.'
