Astros outlook after a shocking trade deadline

There is one thing that is true about the Jim Crane-owned Astros: they are inevitable and will do whatever it takes to position themselves to win. That was proven to everyone on Thursday as the Trade Deadline came to a close. Astros General Manager Dana Brown did a fantastic job at the deadline and has done a fantastic job of setting the Astros up for long-term success. Brown had hopes of getting a left-handed bat and some pitching help; however, he walked away with three new bats and all of his top prospects still in Houston. The Astros struck a salary dump deal with the Minnesota Twins to acquire long-term Astro and former World Series champion, Carlos Correa. Correa, who left the Astros after 2021, had a no-trade clause and told the Twins that he would only waive it for Houston. After a slow start, Correa is back home and is hopeful of continuing his strong midseason success. Correa will shift to third base after Isaac Paredes suffered an injury, which will keep him out all year. The Astros and Miami Marlins also struck a deal for left-handed outfielder Jesús Sánchez. Sánchez is just what the Astros were looking for and will slot well into this lineup. Sánchez also brings two years of control with him, which helps the Astros long-term. The Astros made a trade with the Baltimore Orioles as well when they landed utility man Ramón Urías. Urías brings another Dubon-level player to Houston. He is a former gold glover and can play around the whole infield. Urías will be a depth and bench bat in Houston, but will be a great guy to have around. Urías will make his debut with the team on Saturday, August 2nd. Here is one of the coolest walkoffs you'll see and one of his most fun moments in Baltimore. These bats and Correa's leadership will kickstart the last two months of the season for the Astros, who have played hurt all year. Reinforcements are here! All-Star Shortstop Jeremy Peña made his return on Friday. Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez should be back in the coming weeks, along with center fielder Jake Meyers. With key players returning, the Astros will have a strong starting lineup and one of the best benches in baseball.

Who will Florida football lose to first in 2025? Here's what CBS Sports predicts

Florida football faces a veritable schedule gauntlet this coming fall, which many foresee as among the toughest in the nation once again for the Gators. While nobody expects the Orange and Blue to sweep the regular-season slate, hopes are high in Gainesville that the gridiron gang can take a step forward from last year's improved performance. With Heisman Trophy hopeful DJ Lagway under center and the hot seat temperature turned down a touch under coach Billy Napier, there is a good chance the program can build on its 8-5 finish in 2024. However, it is practically inevitable that Florida will lose at least one game — and very likely there will be more. But when will the first defeat come for Napier and Co.? CBS Sports writer Brandon Crawford recently predicted the first loss for all 16 Southeastern Conference teams. Who will Florida football lose to first in 2025? Crawford foresees the Gators falling short against the LSU Tigers in Death Valley in their Week 3 matchup on Sept. 13. "Beating LSU in Baton Rouge is hard. Taking out the Tigers on the road under the lights is even more difficult. Florida is 1-6 over its last seven games against LSU away from Gainesville, and this one's vital for the Tigers' playoff hopes this fall," he notes. "Equally important for Florida, this one's the first of four straight against top 20 competition. The DJ Lagway vs. Garrett Nussmeier quarterback battle will be worth the price of admission." Florida predicted to give Texas its first loss On the flip side of things, the Gators are poised to play the spoiler for one of the top teams in the conference, the Texas Longhorns. "Our preseason pick to win the SEC this season as one of four playoff teams, the Longhorns will not get through the schedule without a loss. The schedule is too treacherous compared to last season, and The Swamp could be a nightmare this fall for visiting teams," Crawford offers. "Believe it or not, these teams have played in Gainesville before, but that came in 1940. Texas leads the all-time series with Florida, 3-0-1."
