Europe risks falling behind in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race due to excessive regulation, warned

Stefan Hartung. Speaking at a tech conference hosted by the German firm in Stuttgart, Hartung asserted that 'Europe is unnecessarily delaying its AI future with excessive regulation.'
Bosch, which holds the majority of AI patents in Europe, says it is committed to advancing the technology, with plans to invest an additional 2.5 billion euros (approximately $2.90 billion) in AI by the end of 2027.
Hartung emphasized that the combination of bureaucracy and "strict, but also vague, requirements" is making Europe less attractive for AI development compared to other regions. He urged lawmakers to limit their regulatory efforts to a framework covering only the most crucial aspects.
'Otherwise, we will regulate ourselves to death, because we are trying to regulate against technological progress,' he cautioned.

Earlier this year, US Vice President JD Vance issued a stern warning to European leaders, cautioning that their extensive AI regulations could hinder innovation and stifle the burgeoning industry. Vance also strongly condemned content moderation, labeling it 'authoritarian censorship' and outlining the Trump administration's 'America First' approach to maintaining US dominance in AI.
Speaking at a summit of CEOs and heads of state in Paris, Vance articulated the U.S. opposition to the European Union's stricter regulatory stance.
'We believe that excessive regulation of the AI sector could kill a transformative industry,' Vance stated, according to a Reuters report.
Vance specifically targeted the EU's
Digital Services Act
and GDPR privacy rules, arguing that such regulations impose undue financial burdens and endless compliance costs on smaller businesses.

Rs 80cr dues not cleared, discom snaps power supply to 70k defaulters in Dadri
Noida: The power department has begun disconnecting electricity supply to thousands of consumers in Division 4 after identifying over 70,000 defaulters with unpaid dues amounting to Rs 80.5 crore. The crackdown began Wednesday and covers Dadri town and several surrounding villages. Division 4 caters to the urban area of Dadri and villages including Bishnauli, Chhapraula, Achheja, Badalpur, and Piyawali. Of the total 70,264 defaulters spread across eight substations in the division, 26,405 are from Dadri town alone and are responsible for Rs 25.3 crore in unpaid bills. "We held a review meeting with all junior engineers in the Division 4 office on Tuesday. Instructions have been issued to disconnect power supply to consumers who haven't paid their dues, effective Wednesday," said Praveen Kumar Singh, executive engineer of Division 4, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL). Secretariat staff allege bias in new promotion rules, stage protest
Bhopal: Employees at the state secretariat wore caps bearing protest slogans while on duty on Wednesday, voicing their opposition to the newly approved promotion rules, which they allege sideline the interests of general category, backward class and minority employees. Mantralaya Seva Adhikari Karamchari Sangh president Sudhir Nayak said a protest would also be held during lunchtime at main gate number 1 on Thursday, while the later set of protests would be declared after that. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was convened to deliberate on the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Promotion Rules, 2025, on Thursday. The meet would be attended by all additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, secretaries, and heads of departments. The Chief Secretary would also remain present on the occasion. All concerned officials were asked to ensure their presence. The meeting was among the top officials of depts and not between the govt and employees union. Dharashiv inspector & constable caught taking Rs 95,000 bribe from another police constable
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Inspector Maroti Shelke and constable Mukta Lokhande, of the Dharashiv rural police station, were arrested by the anti-corruption bureau on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 95,000 from another woman constable to assist her son in an abetment to suicide case filed against him. Superintendent of police (ACB) Sandip Atole said the complainant, a 48-year-old woman, approached ACB officers alleging that Shelke and Lokhande demanded Rs 1 lakh as a bribe. "Lokhande allegedly made the demand on behalf of inspector Shelke as well as for herself to help the complainant's son," Atole said. Following the complaint, the ACB verified the allegations on Wednesday. During the verification at Dharashiv rural police station, Shelke directed the complainant to meet Lokhande. Later, at the govt guest house in Dharashiv, Lokhande accepted Rs 95,000 as the final bribe amount. A trap was then laid under the supervision of ACB deputy SP Yogesh Velapure. Around the planned time, Lokhande was caught red-handed accepting the Rs 95,000 bribe from the complainant in front of panch witnesses. She was immediately taken into custody. Inspector Shelke was arrested subsequently.
