Bosch CEO to Europe: You are ‘unnecessarily delaying its AI future with…'
Europe risks falling behind in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race due to excessive regulation, warned
Bosch CEO
Stefan Hartung. Speaking at a tech conference hosted by the German firm in Stuttgart, Hartung asserted that 'Europe is unnecessarily delaying its AI future with excessive regulation.'
Bosch, which holds the majority of AI patents in Europe, says it is committed to advancing the technology, with plans to invest an additional 2.5 billion euros (approximately $2.90 billion) in AI by the end of 2027.
Hartung emphasized that the combination of bureaucracy and "strict, but also vague, requirements" is making Europe less attractive for AI development compared to other regions. He urged lawmakers to limit their regulatory efforts to a framework covering only the most crucial aspects.
'Otherwise, we will regulate ourselves to death, because we are trying to regulate against technological progress,' he cautioned.

Hartung's remarks come amid increasing pressure in the AI development race, especially following President Donald Trump's announcement in January of a private sector investment of up to $500 billion to fund AI infrastructure.
US VP JD Vance warned Europe on AI over-regulation risks
Earlier this year, US Vice President JD Vance issued a stern warning to European leaders, cautioning that their extensive AI regulations could hinder innovation and stifle the burgeoning industry. Vance also strongly condemned content moderation, labeling it 'authoritarian censorship' and outlining the Trump administration's 'America First' approach to maintaining US dominance in AI.
Speaking at a summit of CEOs and heads of state in Paris, Vance articulated the U.S. opposition to the European Union's stricter regulatory stance.
'We believe that excessive regulation of the AI sector could kill a transformative industry,' Vance stated, according to a Reuters report.
Vance specifically targeted the EU's
Digital Services Act
and GDPR privacy rules, arguing that such regulations impose undue financial burdens and endless compliance costs on smaller businesses.

Secretariat staff allege bias in new promotion rules, stage protest
Bhopal: Employees at the state secretariat wore caps bearing protest slogans while on duty on Wednesday, voicing their opposition to the newly approved promotion rules, which they allege sideline the interests of general category, backward class and minority employees. Mantralaya Seva Adhikari Karamchari Sangh president Sudhir Nayak said a protest would also be held during lunchtime at main gate number 1 on Thursday, while the later set of protests would be declared after that. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was convened to deliberate on the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Promotion Rules, 2025, on Thursday. The meet would be attended by all additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, secretaries, and heads of departments. The Chief Secretary would also remain present on the occasion. All concerned officials were asked to ensure their presence. The meeting was among the top officials of depts and not between the govt and employees union. The MP cabinet on June 17 approved the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Promotion Rules, 2025. Provisions include 20% reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 16% for Scheduled Castes (SC). SC and ST public servants will also have the opportunity for promotion based on merit. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo It has been provided that promotion committees may meet in the current year itself to prepare selection lists for the next year's vacancies, i.e., provisions for advance DPCs (Departmental Promotion Committees) have been included. Due weightage is given to seniority, and among senior officials, those obtaining the minimum qualifying marks will be eligible for promotion. For Class I officers, a merit-cum-seniority principle will apply, the govt stated. The problem for the general category employees was that SC and ST public servants will have the opportunity for promotion based on merit, besides 20% reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 16% for Scheduled Castes (SC).
