Bhubaneswar: With the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) extending the red alert at Biju Patnaik International Airport here for seven more days following the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, common visitors will not be allowed to enter the BPIA.
Additionally, the activation of BPIA's anti-hijacking cell will remain in force, and a high alert status will be maintained. Earlier, BPIA authorities conducted a comprehensive review of navigational assets to ensure operational security.
"Until further notice, the airport will be out of bounds for common visitors in view of the recent tensions. Secondary ladder point check (SLPC) will be in place for some more days.
The second layer of security check is carried out in emergency situations and on special occasions," said airport director Prasanna Pradhan.
Sources said the last time the airport authorities activated SLPC was following a threat mail from Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Airport officials said that minutes before passengers board a flight, their bags will be scanned, and they may be frisked, which is not done usually. Normally, after the primary security check by
CISF
personnel before proceeding to the departure lounge, no further checking is done.

Airport sources said in view of the tensions, the BCAS issued directions to airport authorities not to provide visitor passes for entering terminal buildings. On an average, around 200 people visit the airport every day. The visitors include tourists and relatives and friends of passengers. Bhubaneswar airport is treated as sensitive by BCAS.

Flight operations to begin from Patna airport's new terminal tomorrow

Flight operations to begin from airport's new terminal tomorrow PATNA: The long wait is over. Flyers to and from Patna will now experience world-class amenities as the newly constructed terminal building of Jayprakash Narayan International Airport opens to the public on Tuesday (June 3). The two-storey terminal, with arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the first, is built to accommodate 3,000 passengers at peak hours – 1,500 on each floor. Spread across 65,150 square metres, the facility boasts five aerobridges and 11 boarding gates to ensure smooth boarding and disembarkation. Passengers will benefit from modern comforts, including spacious lounges, varied dining options, retail outlets and enhanced seating areas. According to Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, all flight operations will shift to the new terminal from 7am on June 3. "This milestone is a significant upgrade in infrastructure, designed to improve both the quality of service for travellers and operational efficiency. The shifting process from the existing terminal to the new facility is in the final stage," said an official. The terminal houses 64 check-in counters, nine automatic tray retrieval systems (ATRS), Digi Yatri gates for contactless travel, security checks on the first floor and four conveyor belts in the arrivals hall. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Ukraine (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo With this expansion, the annual passenger handling capacity will rise from 25 lakh to 1 crore. The new apron accommodates 11 aircraft (nine Code C-A320 and two ATR), of which seven parking bays have been constructed so far. "The remaining parking bays will be constructed after demolishing the old terminal. The base for four aerobridges will come up at the same location to provide direct connectivity with the apron," the official added. The terminal is equipped to manage 75 arrivals and 75 departures daily. Presently, the airport handles 98 aircraft movements with two new flights added on Sunday. Uma Shankar, deputy general manager (ATM) and safety investigation coordinator at Patna airport, said, "Air India Express on Sunday started two flights, one each for Guwahati and Hyderabad. Total arrivals and departures have increased to 98. Once operations begin at the new terminal, airlines will increase services. At present, we have not received proposals for any new routes or international flights." The terminal's design pays tribute to Bihar's rich cultural heritage with traditional artwork, murals and carvings. Inspired by the ruins of Nalanda, the building includes an insulated roofing system, LED lighting and heat-minimising glazing for energy efficiency, targeting a 4-star GRIHA eco-rating. A new entrance gate has been built for the terminal. Departing passengers will take the flyover to reach the departure level while arriving passengers will exit directly from the arrivals area. The multilevel car park (MLCP) on the city side will also open from June 3, offering space for 1,100 vehicles. Parking fees remain unchanged. Buses will be charged Rs 30 for 30 minutes and Rs 70 for up to two hours; SUVs, cars and minibuses Rs 20 for 30 minutes and Rs 60 for up to two hours. For cars, the fee is Rs 55 for two hours and two-wheelers will be charged Rs 10 for half an hour and Rs 15 for up to two hours. Commercial vehicles in the pick-up zone will incur a fee of Rs 40 with a penalty of Rs 500 if they exceed a seven-minute stay.

IPL final lap sends airfares flying high as Kolkata-Ahmedabad sector sees over 2-fold surge

KOLKATA: Cricket fever has gripped Kolkata once again - even without the home team in the race - as hundreds of die-hard fans prepare to fly to Ahmedabad for the final leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. This has led to a more than two-fold surge in airfares between Kolkata and Ahmedabad. The second qualifier on Sunday and the grand finale on Tuesday at the 1.3-lakh capacity Narendra Modi Stadium have led to a staggering 150% increase in airfares between Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Typically, a round-trip flight between the two cities costs around Rs 12,000-Rs 13,000. However, with only five daily non-stop services available, ticket prices for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday have soared beyond Rs 30,000. Several travel portals reported that most economy seats were sold out, with only premium fares remaining. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), led by crowd favourite Virat Kohli, secured their place in the final and a thrilling qualifier between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians was on till late on Sunday night. Despite the early exit of the Kolkata Knight Riders this season, the passion among the city's cricket lovers remains undeterred. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Rio De Janeiro (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Hundreds are on their way to Ahmedabad for the final match, spiking the demand for flight tickets. "I have always been a crazy IPL fan. I watch every match at Eden Gardens and was absolutely sure to watch the final no matter which team was playing. But it was sad that the final was shifted out of Kolkata. Even then, with Virat Kohli and RCB in the final, I am planning to head to Ahmedabad for the match, stay there for a couple of days for a short vacation, and come back when the return fare cools down a bit," said Sonal Kapoor, a 27-year-old market research professional and a Park Street resident. Even hotel tariffs have seen a ripple effect. A travel agent in Kolkata confirmed that rates in both Ahmedabad and Mumbai have jumped since the schedule changes. "Hotel tariffs have gone up by more than 10%," said a travel agent. Travel-related searches to Ahmedabad also increased by 40%. City IPL fans were left devastated after the IPL final and qualifier 2, which were scheduled to be held at the Eden Gardens, were moved out of the stadium fearing rain playing spoilsport. It also created a political furore, with a section of BJP leaders claiming the match was shifted citing security issues, while TMC leadership claimed BJP's high-handedness to hold all important cricket matches at the stadium named after the prime minister. Since KKR won the title last year, Eden Gardens was announced as the host of the grand finale and second qualifier, and it was expected to witness a packed house for the marquee clash. With fear of monsoon hitting the area in June, the association reportedly even submitted IMD data to the BCCI, asserting that conditions in Kolkata would remain favourable for hosting the matches, but the BCCI decided otherwise. "I have supported RCB for years and seeing Virat Kohli live in a final is a dream," said Subhajit Banerjee, a young musician. "I will watch Sunday's qualifier and then take a final call on booking flight tickets to Ahmedabad for the once-in-a-lifetime experience and hope Virat Kohli gets to lift the trophy finally."
