Chinese Embassy in Amman marks 98th anniversary of People's Liberation Army

Ammon5 days ago
Ammon News - The Chinese Embassy in Amman hosted a reception on Tuesday evening to mark the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), with senior Jordanian officials, military leaders, diplomats, and members of the media in attendance.
In his keynote speech, Chinese Defense Attaché Colonel Li Pengfei reflected on the PLA's legacy and highlighted China's commitment to international peace and cooperation. "On August 1, 1927, the Communist Party of China led the Nanchang Uprising and for the first time in Chinese history established a military that truly belonged to the people," he said. "Over 98 years, the PLA has endured wars and hardships, making great sacrifices to support China's modernization and national defense."
Colonel Li emphasized China's goal of building a world-class military by the PLA's centenary in 2027, citing the institution's disciplined service to global peace and justice. "The PLA will remain a staunch force that safeguards world peace and will continue to deepen cooperation with the armed forces of friendly countries, including Jordan," he said.
Addressing current global dynamics, Li warned of increasing instability. "Unprecedented changes are unfolding rapidly, thrusting the world into heightened volatility. We must reject unilateralism and hegemonism, and instead build a community with a shared future for humanity," he said.
Marking the 80th anniversaries of both the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations, the Chinese attaché called for resisting modern forms of coercion and power politics. He reiterated China's firm stance on the Taiwan issue, asserting that "China's reunification is inevitable, and the PLA is confident and capable of defending the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Turning to the Middle East, Li expressed deep concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. "We commend the tireless efforts of the Jordanian Armed Forces and charity organizations under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II. Their humanitarian role has gained wide international respect," he said.
He reaffirmed China's commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable path to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "China will continue working with the international community, including Jordan, to end the war in Gaza, restore peace in the region, and achieve a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question," he stated.
Concluding his remarks, Colonel Li called for renewed international diplomacy and expressed hope that ceasefire agreements could soon be reached in the region. "We sincerely hope for an end to hostilities and relief for the immense suffering of the Palestinian people," he said. Petra

Sisi urges Trump to exert all efforts to end Gaza war

Ammon News - Earlier on Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on Trump to exert all efforts to end the war in Gaza and allow entry of humanitarian aid into the shattered Palestinian enclave. "I direct this special message to President Trump: Please, exert all efforts to end this war and allow the entry of aid," Sisi said in a televised speech. He added that Trump was one who was "capable of stopping the war." Egypt, Qatar and the U.S. have been mediating in search of ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas since the war broke out on October 7, 2023. The latest round of indirect ceasefire talks in Doha between Israel and Hamas broke off last week with no deal in sight as mediators struggle to bridge the gaps between the two sides.

US senator wants Musk to block use of Starlink in Southeast Asia

Ammon News - A Democratic senator on Monday urged SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to block transnational criminal groups in Southeast Asia from using Starlink satellite internet service to commit fraud against Americans. Senator Maggie Hassan cited recent reports that Starlink is being used to facilitate fraud against Americans by a broad range of transnational criminal organizations operating "scam compounds" in Southeast Asia. The U.S. Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network said these groups defrauded Americans out of billions of dollars, she added. The Reuters Daily Briefing newsletter provides all the news you need to start your day. Sign up here. "Scam networks in Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, however, have apparently continued to use Starlink despite service rules permitting SpaceX to terminate access for fraudulent activity," Hassan wrote in a letter to Musk seen by Reuters. "SpaceX has a responsibility to block criminals from using the service to target Americans."

Trump says Gaza ceasefire is 'possible'

Ammon News - US President Donald Trump said on Monday that a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza was "possible." Trump stated he had talked to Israeli officials and told them they may need to do things a different way. He made the comments to reporters at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland where he was meeting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump also expressed his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I'm disappointed in President Putin," he said. He added that he would be reducing a 50-day deadline he gave Russia over its war with Ukraine. On July 14, Trump said he would impose tariffs and sanctions on Russia if Moscow would not make a ceasefire agreement within 50 days. "I'm going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number," he said. He did not give a new deadline.
