Mostly quiet Memorial Day weekend ahead – steady rains return next week

Yahoo24-05-2025

Tonight provides partly cloudy skies with temperatures dipping down into the low 40s. A spot or two of frost in our sheltered valley locations is possible!
Saturday begins on a chilly note in the low 40s, but we will see the sunshine return in what will be a nice start to the Memorial Day weekend, albeit a little bit on the cool side, with high temperatures only rebounding into the low to mid 60s with mostly sunny skies. A northwest breeze that will occasionally gust to around 20 mph will still be noticeable but at least it will be warmer!
What's open and closed on Memorial Day
Sunday is a day that begins dry but will feature a couple of isolated showers with a boundary approaching slowly from the west across the Ozarks. That trough should get close enough to throw a shower or two our way. Overall though, many of us will remain dry. The best chance for seeing a shower will be in our southwestern areas down in the Coalfields. High temperatures will reach the upper 60s.
Memorial Day looks dry to start, but a stubborn southern system will throw a couple of afternoon showers into our region. Once again, the farther south and west you are, the better chance of seeing a couple of showers. There will be plenty of dry time with high temperatures around 70 degrees.
Tuesday looks particularly wet with our southern low pressure system lifting north right over our region. This will bring a good bet for showers with high temperatures in the mid 60s. Steady rains could result in locally heavy rainfall in spots, with an inch or so of rain alone on Tuesday looking to be a good bet.
Wednesday continues to keep showers likely early on being on the back side of Tuesday's system. We will see showers gradually becoming more scattered with high temperatures in the upper 60s.

Thursday keep a few scattered showers around as our unsettled pattern continues with a stalled front nearby. There will be plenty of dry time with highs around 70.
Friday provides more chances for showers with another front approaching with highs in the low 70s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we are warming up! Temperatures will climb into the mid 70s Saturday, Sunday and Monday – some towns out west will nudge toward 80 degrees. The overall pattern is trending warmer ahead.

Pittsburgh in for humid conditions and numerous storms beginning Friday afternoon

This morning, the front associated with yesterday's thunderstorm activity stalled near the I-70 corridor with a humid and warm air mass in place in its vicinity. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos With light winds in place and high levels of humidity near the ground, this has resulted in the development of patchy fog. High temperatures and rain chances today in Western Pennsylvania KDKA Weather Center The fog is generally thickest near and northwest of the Pittsburgh metro and will be in place through the next few hours. Some scattered showers are ongoing across Ohio and will move from west to east through sunrise and into the mid-morning hours. As low-level heating commences, this will allow instability to build up, resulting in a transition from showers to scattered and even numerous thunderstorms developing by 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and lasting through the evening hours. Similar to yesterday, wind shear values aren't too high, but just enough to allow for pulse storms that could produce localized microbursts of wind up to 60mph, very heavy rain, and at most quarter-sized hail. Severe weather threats on Friday afternoon into the evening KDKA Weather Center The bulk of the storm activity will shift south toward I-70 and I-68 during the late evening and overnight hours of Saturday. After a few morning showers, most of Saturday into Saturday night is trending drier as we will be in between systems with high pressure to the north. On Sunday, moisture will return north ahead of another disturbance. It is likely that showers and numerous thunderstorms will move in during the midday to afternoon hours with this system. An isolated severe storm cannot be ruled out, especially south of Pittsburgh toward the I-70 and I-68 corridors. Following Sunday's system, a more potent upper-level storm system will move in on Monday into Monday evening. This system will have much stronger winds aloft and be accompanied by sufficient moisture and some instability, so we will need to keep an eye on a potentially higher severe weather threat with this system. Lingering showers and storms will continue on Tuesday, before a cold front moves in, resulting in drier conditions by the following Wednesday through the end of next week. 7-day forecast: June 6, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

Showers possible in Twin Cities for next few days before temps return to 80s

The weekend won't be a washout, but Minnesotans should keep their umbrellas handy. Friday will bring scattered showers and a few rumbles, but nothing heavy. The activity will mainly be north of the Twin Cities in the morning before easing up in the afternoon with sun breaks and dry time. Expect highs in the lower 70s through the weekend. More showers are possible Saturday, mainly in the afternoon. Sunday will be unsettled, but periods of sunshine are likely. It's possible some wildfire smoke from Canada could move in, as well. Next week will start cool and breezy, with lingering clouds and spotty rain. Then, sunshine returns and temperatures bounce back into the 80s.
