Mostly quiet Memorial Day weekend ahead – steady rains return next week

Tonight provides partly cloudy skies with temperatures dipping down into the low 40s. A spot or two of frost in our sheltered valley locations is possible! Saturday begins on a chilly note in the low 40s, but we will see the sunshine return in what will be a nice start to the Memorial Day weekend, albeit a little bit on the cool side, with high temperatures only rebounding into the low to mid 60s with mostly sunny skies. A northwest breeze that will occasionally gust to around 20 mph will still be noticeable but at least it will be warmer! What's open and closed on Memorial Day Sunday is a day that begins dry but will feature a couple of isolated showers with a boundary approaching slowly from the west across the Ozarks. That trough should get close enough to throw a shower or two our way. Overall though, many of us will remain dry. The best chance for seeing a shower will be in our southwestern areas down in the Coalfields. High temperatures will reach the upper 60s. Memorial Day looks dry to start, but a stubborn southern system will throw a couple of afternoon showers into our region. Once again, the farther south and west you are, the better chance of seeing a couple of showers. There will be plenty of dry time with high temperatures around 70 degrees. Tuesday looks particularly wet with our southern low pressure system lifting north right over our region. This will bring a good bet for showers with high temperatures in the mid 60s. Steady rains could result in locally heavy rainfall in spots, with an inch or so of rain alone on Tuesday looking to be a good bet. Wednesday continues to keep showers likely early on being on the back side of Tuesday's system. We will see showers gradually becoming more scattered with high temperatures in the upper 60s. Best Memorial Day deals to shop this year Thursday keep a few scattered showers around as our unsettled pattern continues with a stalled front nearby. There will be plenty of dry time with highs around 70. Friday provides more chances for showers with another front approaching with highs in the low 70s. Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we are warming up! Temperatures will climb into the mid 70s Saturday, Sunday and Monday – some towns out west will nudge toward 80 degrees. The overall pattern is trending warmer ahead. TONIGHTPartly cloudy. Chilly! Lows in the low sunny. Highs in the mid sunny. Isolated showers south. Highs in the upper DAYPartly sunny.
