Mohit Suri praises debutante Aneet Padda for her acting skills. The director also revealed how she got selected for the film.
Director Mohit Suri is riding high on the success of his latest offering, Saiyaara. The romantic drama, which premiered on July 18, featured newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Since its release, the film has been smashing records and winning over audiences worldwide thanks to its gripping storyline, soul-stirring music and powerful performances by the debutants.
The two have been garnering widespread praise from critics, audiences and renowned Bollywood celebrities. Now, the filmmaker sat down for an interview with an entertainment media portal where he spoke highly about the film's leading lady.
Calling Aneet Padda a 'powerhouse of talent", Mohit revealed how she got selected for the film, her dedication towards the craft and how she worked hard even after facing rejections.
Mohit Suri Reveals Aneet Padda's Self-Audition
Speaking to Zoom, Mohit Suri shared that he first came across Aneet during the COVID lockdowns. 'She taught herself acting and singing at home during COVID. She kept sending auditions, got rejected, and improved after every rejection. I've seen her self-audition on a mobile phone. She did that on her phone and sent it," he said.
He credited casting director Shanoo Sharma for recognising her potential. 'Shanoo should be given a lot of credit for this, who flew her down and auditioned her here. She was the one girl who auditioned with old scenes but did it her own way. She's a powerhouse of talent, which is just yet to be tapped."
Mohit Suri Is All Praise For Aneet Padda
Calling her a strong and independent artist, the Saiyaara director added, 'She is someone who has got the confidence. But at the same time, she has the approach to be critical of herself and learn from that. She doesn't need too much handholding. She is an independent, strong girl who came from Amritsar and has made it on her own."
Saiyaara's Plot And Cast
A remake of the 2004 Korean classic A Moment to Remember, Saiyaara is a heart-wrenching love story between a fiery journalist, Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), and an aspiring musician, Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday). Written by Rohan Shankar and Sankalp Sadanah, the film also features a talented supporting cast, including Shaad Randhawa, Rajesh Kumar, Sid Makkar, Varun Badola, and Geeta Agrawal Sharma.
Box Office Success
Saiyaara has been a major commercial success in North America. By August 18, the film had crossed the $6 million mark, making it the third-highest-grossing Indian film in the region. Leading the chart is the historical drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna (USD 6.4 million), followed closely by Rajinikanth's Coolie at USD 6.22 million.
