IG Drones secures patent for indigenous defence drone simulator

Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough for India's defence technology sector, IG Drones has secured a patent for an indigenous defence drone simulator. An IG Drones spokesperson said it is the first such patent secured by an Indian company for an indigenous defence drone simulator.
The simulator, which was first showcased by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Defence Expo 2022, has been designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in India. It provides high-fidelity training for the
Indian Army
, Navy, Air Force and paramilitary forces, enabling personnel to master combat drone operations in simulated high-risk environments.
"This patent is a proud declaration of India's technological resurgence," said Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, founder & CEO of IG Drones.
"Under Prime Minister Modi's visionary leadership, we are building the future of India's defence capabilities."
The state-of-the-art simulator features advanced AI, physics-based engines, and real-time terrain dynamics, offering a secure and cost-effective alternative to foreign systems. It supports training for various scenarios, including GPS-denied zones and multi-drone missions, while significantly reducing operational costs and risks.

IG Drones has already demonstrated its capabilities during Operation Sindoor, where it deployed indigenous vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), first-person view (FPV), and kamikaze drones for strategic surveillance, mapping and targeted strikes. The company's achievement in securing this patent breaks foreign dominance in drone simulator technology.
The simulator also serves as a vital tool in disaster response training, enabling forces to prepare for complex rescue scenarios such as floods, forest fires and urban emergencies.
It allows for testing new drone technologies, AI-based flight algorithms, and multi-drone coordination strategies, the company said.
This development aligns with the govt's Viksit Bharat 2047 mission and strengthens India's position as an emerging leader in defence technology. The patent not only demonstrates India's growing technological capabilities, but also reduces the country's dependence on foreign training platforms.
