Rain brings temporary relief from heat
Ranchi: Ranchites heaved a sigh of relief as
rainfall
lashed the city on Saturday night. However, the relief was short-lived as the mercury rose again on Sunday.The Ranchi office of the
India Meteorological Department
(IMD) issued a yellow alert for heatwave-like conditions in isolated parts of the eastern regions in the state from Monday to Wednesday.
The weather bulletin said, "Very light to moderate rain with thunderstorm occurred at isolated places over the state on Saturday.
The highest rainfall, 12.8 mm, was observed at Mandar in Ranchi.""Light to moderate rain and thundershower are likely to occur at isolated places over the southern and central parts on Monday," it added.Mandar recorded 12.8 mm of rainfall, Ranchi 2.6 mm, Bokaro 10.4mm, Latehar 1mm, Ramgarh 12.4mm, Lohardaga 9mm, Palganj 6 mm, Gobindpur 4.8mm, Kanke 4mm, and Namkum 2.9 mm on Saturday. Though the rain brought down the maximum temperature on Saturday night, residents reeld under sweltering heat on Sunday.Ranchi experienced 37°C, an increase of 0.3°C from Saturday, Jamshedpur 40.7°C, a 0.4°C increase from the previous day, and Daltonganj recorded 40.7°C, a 0.6 °C increase. Bokaro and Chaibasa recorded maximum temperatures of 39.1°C and 39.9°C, respectively. The IMD bulletin predicted that the state is likely to experience an increase in maximum temperature by 2-4°C over the next four days."The northeast parts of the state, mostly districts of Santhal Pargana, might experience hot and humid weather conditions on Sunday. Southern and central parts of the state are likely to witness thunderstorms along with rain and gusty winds," Ranchi met centre's deputy director Abhishek Anand said.Eight districts of the state — Deoghar, Jamtara, Pakur, Godda, Sahibganj, Dumka, Dhanbad and Giridih — are likely to experience a
heatwave
till May 16, the IMD said.

According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
